"Your Majesty, Her Highness Jill has requested that you wait a little longer as she isn’t done with her experiment yet," Kella informed me nervously.
Unfortunately for her, Jill’s fiancé was already irritated after being made to wait once, only to now be told to wait even more.
"Just because she engraved her lab with a high-end isolation barrier array formation doesn’t mean I can’t tell she’s doing absolutely nothing in there," I argued before walking past Kella and forcefully pushing open the laboratory doors.
Kella, the assistant Jill had brought with her from the central capital, hurriedly chased after me while desperately pleading for me to stop making things difficult for her. She was clearly trying to play the sympathy card.
Honestly, this master-and-assistant duo seriously needed a reminder about who the boss was here.
Entering the lab, I quickly shut the door behind me before Kella could slip inside after me. Then I twisted the handle lock just enough to keep her from barging in immediately.
Behind me, Kella knocked helplessly against the door once before falling silent, probably realizing there was no point trying to interfere anymore.
Inside the laboratory, soft golden light reflected off countless glass flasks and scattered ingredients spread across the counters. The moment Jill noticed me enter, she immediately turned toward the counter and began fiddling with random ingredients, pretending to be deeply occupied with work.
"Kella," she called out without turning around, her tone carrying forced irritation, "didn’t I say not to disturb me for another day?"
"So you were planning to make your fiancé wait outside for an entire day?" I remarked while walking up behind her. "Cruel."
I slowly slid my arms around her slender waist and pulled her gently against me. The moment I touched her, Jill’s body visibly trembled. Even her breathing became slightly uneven for a second.
Yet despite that reaction, she stubbornly continued moving flasks and ingredients around the counter as though she were completely focused on her work and not at all affected by me standing behind her holding her close.
My gaze drifted toward her smooth pale neck, exposed because she had hastily tied her hair into a messy bun using nothing but a pencil. A few loose strands framed her face, making her look less like a composed researcher and more like someone desperately trying to distract herself.
As I leaned closer, lowering my lips toward her neck, Jill trembled the instant my warm breath brushed against her skin. No matter how stubbornly she tried to act indifferent, her body was painfully honest.
"Get away from me," Jill suddenly snapped, though her voice wavered slightly. "You reek of those two."
"How about you replace their scent with yours instead?" I replied softly before turning her around in my arms. The moment our eyes met, I could clearly see the conflict hidden within hers.
Jill desired me just as much as I desired her, perhaps even more. But at the same time, she stubbornly wanted to prove a point. She refused to let me think I could always prioritize the other two over her simply because I already knew how deeply her body and heart longed for me.
Even now, while glaring at me with forced annoyance, her fingers unconsciously clutched the front of my shirt tighter instead of pushing me away.
"You think that’s funny? It’s disgusting. I’m about to vomit," Jill snarled aggressively, though the faint redness creeping up her ears completely ruined the effect she was trying to create.
For a brief second, I almost doubted myself.
I had specifically cleansed myself before coming to see the girls, especially after the rather heated session with Anna earlier. On top of that, there was no way any lingering scent should have been strong enough to overpower the natural fragrance of my part World Calamity Tree physique.
That faint, refreshing scent was practically part of my existence at this point. Which meant Jill wasn’t actually angry about some smell. She was angry because she knew exactly where I had been before coming here.
And judging from the way her eyes kept darting toward my lips before snapping away again, her irritation clearly had less to do with disgust and far more to do with jealousy.
"Hey, you three chose the same fiance, you should have known what you are getting yourselves in," I complained, a little tired that all three of them were getting angry at me for either not coming to them first or bringing up others when I’m with them.
It wasn’t like I had proposed to the three of them. They were the ones who publicly proposed to me. If anything, they practically strong-armed me into this committed relationship while I was still trying to adjust to the very concept of polygamy.
Honestly, I still had no clue what happened between the three of them after the Emissary of Light teleported me to the Way Beyond. Somehow, by the time I returned, they had coordinated a grand confession and proposal in perfect unison like they had rehearsed it for weeks.
I wanted to believe the fear of losing me had brought them closer together and pushed them into making the decision for me. But considering how unpredictable women could be, I could only hope that was the actual reason and not something far scarier.
"So now you’re saying this is my fault?" Jill asked sharply, narrowing her eyes at me.
Unlike earlier, this time the irritation on her face wasn’t forced at all. The frown between her brows formed naturally as she glared at me with genuine annoyance.
And yet... her fingers still clung tightly to my shirt.
Her mind was clearly furious with me, but her body stubbornly refused to cooperate with that anger. Realizing that only made the crimson tint spreading across her cheeks deepen further.
Jill hated it.
She hated her damned physique.
She hated how her heartbeat always lost control around me.
And most of all, she hated how simply seeing me was enough to make her heart flutter no matter how upset she was trying to be.
