The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 342: Changing the Three Realms

Beneath the radiant light, within the City of Unjust Deaths, countless spirits took flight, surging towards the Wanling Chart.

The Ten Kings of Hell watched this scene, their eyes widening as if they had seen a ghost.

"How, how is this possible!"

They had never imagined that Sun Wukong would actually set his sights on the spirits of the City of Unjust Deaths.

Those who died unjustly have been an unsolvable problem since the establishment of the Underworld, with no perfect solution within the Three Realms.

But Sun Wukong had actually come up with a method!

"The answer that we couldn't find for tens of thousands of years, that Sun Wukong actually..."

The Kings of Hell stuttered.

The idea of Sun Wukong turning the unjustly dead into Ghost Messengers was simply unbelievable.

"It can't be, it must be fake."

King Qinguang trembled as he spoke: "How can he turn spirits into Ghost Messengers! Such a miracle not even the Heavenly Emperor could achieve!"

Upon hearing this, other Kings of Hell immediately calmed down.

That's right, how could such a miracle possibly happen!

Their gaze was firmly fixed on the mirror, desperately hoping to witness Sun Wukong's failure.

However, the hope that filled their hearts soon turned into disillusionment.

Beneath the Wanling Chart, shadowy figures began to appear, one by one descending to the ground.

On seeing these figures, the Kings of Hell's faces showed expressions of shock.

"Are we dreaming?"

The Five Senses King said dumbfoundedly.

But at this moment, no one had the mind to agree with him.

Those landing on the ground were a group of peculiar Ghost Messengers.

"Greetings to the Heavenly Emperor."

As soon as they touched the ground, they knelt sincerely towards Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong's gaze swept over, noting these Ghost Messengers differed greatly from the prison guards of the Underworld; aside from their forms being somewhat ethereal, their appearance was just like mortals.

They wore the attire of Wanling Country from two hundred years later, which evoked a sense of nostalgia in Sun Wukong.

"The Underworld I govern is solemn and sacred, not to be defiled."

Sun Wukong spoke, "In the future, you will oversee the good and evil of Wanling, you must be fair and impartial, clear and transparent, not practicing deceit."

"Your command is our will."

The Ghost Messengers bowed in unison, their voices steady, with little emotional fluctuation.

"Descend and await orders!"

Sun Wukong gestured, and the Ghost Messengers immediately took flight to follow the command.

Sun Wukong then turned around, facing west.

There, the Womb of the Earth Bodhisattva was riding Diting, rushing to the Palace of Darkness.

Diting halted suddenly halfway.

"The Great Calamity—Sun Wukong is indeed the Great Calamity of the Three Realms!"

Its teeth started to chatter.

"What's the matter?"

The Womb of the Earth Bodhisattva asked.

"I heard the heartvoices of those Ghost Messengers."

Diting said, "I have listened to the Three Realms, and I have never heard such a sound."

No joy, no sorrow, no anger—Diting heard that every one of the Ghost Messengers only knew to think, lacking all emotions.

"Puppets, they are just like puppets!"

The voice of Diting trembled slightly.

"Bodhisattva, let's run away!"

Diting suggested.

For the first time in its life, it felt fear.

It was a fear of the unknown and irresistible forces.

"Why should we run?"

The Bodhisattva asked indifferently.

"That Sun Wukong, we cannot fight against him!"

Diting said, "He is a Demon King—he has the power to turn all beings of the Three Realms into puppets!"

It heard from Sun Wukong himself that if he desired, he could turn all beings into puppets, just like those Ghost Messengers.

Such a terrifying existence was naturally to be fled from if possible.

"Om Mani Padme Hum."

However, Ksitigarbha did not flee; he dismounted from Diting and patted it: "Since that's the case, you go."

"Bodhisattva."

Diting looked at Ksitigarbha.

"My Buddha is merciful."

Ksitigarbha said, "Given that you've said this, I can no longer disregard Sun Wukong."

He took a step forward, leaning on his tin staff, with lotuses blooming beneath his feet and radiant light emanating from his being.

Golden Sanskrit lit up on his body, bringing forth Buddha Light.

The gloomy skies of the Underworld were illuminated by the golden light.

Ksitigarbha walked towards the Palace of Darkness; with each step, his presence became more formidable.

This scene, like the wrath of the heavens, those ghosts sensitive to the Buddha Light could not resist at all.

Across the land, the Blood Sea, mountain streams, and the eighteen layers of hell, all evil spirits knelt, trembling fiercely on the ground.

This was the true form of the ruler of the Underworld, Ksitigarbha, his lifelong cultivation shimmering with Buddha Light, a power peerless, penetrating the Three Realms.

Sun Wukong quietly watched Ksitigarbha approach with measured steps.

The dazzling radiance had no effect on him whatsoever.

"Heavenly Emperor."

Ksitigarbha drew near.

Unexpectedly, his first words were an acknowledgment of Sun Wukong's identity: "Is it possible for you to stop now and leave the Underworld?"

Sun Wukong was somewhat amused: "Do you think that's possible?"

"It's not impossible..."

Ksitigarbha wanted to persuade him further but was interrupted by Sun Wukong raising his hand.

"Aren't you going to look again?"

Sun Wukong said, "Take a look at what I'm going to do next."

Ksitigarbha truly did not know what Sun Wukong was about to do: "Please enlighten me, Heavenly Emperor."

"What I'm going to do..."

Sun Wukong turned his head towards Ghost Gate, where thousands of Ghost Messengers were already positioned at every angle of the city.

"Firstly."

He smiled slightly: "...destroy this place."

As these four words were spoken, the entire city collapsed amidst a thunderous roar.

Streets, pavilions, government offices, all buildings crumbled like dregs of bean curd, destroyed by an unknown force, disintegrating like dust.

Countless rubble and stones scattered around Ksitigarbha, smoke billowing high and obscuring the sky.

Outside Ghost Gate, spirits were stricken with terror at the sight, with nothing but the rumble of collapsing rubble penetrating the silence of the crumbling city.

Ksitigarbha gripped his tin staff tight, and only when the smoke cleared could he see the ghostly hands of those thousands of Ghost Messengers glowing with a strange light.

"That is..."

"Wanling Heavenly Dao."

Sun Wukong began to laugh: "As I thought, it can be used even in the Underworld!"

The Wanling diagram in the sky also shone with a joyous light at his laughter.

Ksitigarbha's complexion grew increasingly pale: "Why do those Ghost Messengers possess such power?"

All the Ten Kings Yan collapsed to the ground at this moment.

Ghost Gate was destroyed in an instant by those Ghost Messengers!

Just moments ago, they were merely weak souls of the wrongly deceased in the city, how did they suddenly acquire such terrifying spells?

There was nothing more frightening than such a transformation!

"What on earth has Sun Wukong done!"

The Kings Yan, well aware of the difficulty of cultivation in the Netherworld, were increasingly terrified.

How could such a thing happen, how could such a monster exist.

What had Sun Wukong done to those wrongful dead spirits?

Even the Kings Yan, who were most familiar with the Underworld, could not fully comprehend how Sun Wukong had achieved this.

"Hahaha..."

In the Palace of Darkness, Sun Wukong laughed heartily.

He was truly very happy, because his experiment had succeeded.

The Wanling Heavenly Dao itself is not about cultivation of Dao but about transmission and execution of spells through wisdom.

And he, he had brought back the wisdom of a small world.

"It can be done."

The light in Sun Wukong's eyes was bright and fiery.

"Two hundred years..."

He looked at the Wanling diagram in the sky: "I can change the Three Realms!"
