The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 373: Please Grant The Great King's Approval

"Wanling Net, what is that?"

The Fox King's face was full of curiosity.

"It connects everything."

Sun Wukong answered: "All beings of Wanling can connect through it."

He explained to the Fox King the structure of the Wanling Net.

The Wanling Net is a version of the Internet he saw in the Heavenly Book but with some absolute differences.

The Wanling Net can integrate the functions of musical notes, Shadow Talismans, and other Spiritual Objects, transferring various kinds of information, and can also perform the transmission of Spirits Magic.

Sun Wukong had wanted to create such a network for a long time.

But only now did he think the technological accumulation was sufficient to try and create it.

"There really is such a thing!"

After hearing Sun Wukong's description, the Fox King could not help but shine brightly from his eyes: "Great King, truly a genius concept."

He could not restrain his joy and immediately bid farewell to Sun Wukong, rushing to inform the other demons.

A few days later, Ao Luan and Immortal Zhen Yuan brought news from Lingshan.

At the Lingshan Dharma Assembly, Buddha declared Sun Wukong to be the great enemy of the Three Realms.

Sun Wukong destroying the Heavenly Palace, forcing the Jade Emperor and Queen Mother to fall, is the enemy of all the Immortals, all disciples of the Taoist and Buddhist sects in the Three Realms.

"Buddha is serious."

Immortal Zhen Yuan smiled: "It will be interesting in the future."

But Ao Luan couldn't laugh.

Before the assembly, although Heavenly Palace and Lingshan regarded Sun Wukong as an enemy, they hadn't completely ruptured their relationship.

This formal declaration meant that there was no turning back for them now.

"What else..."

Sun Wukong had anticipated Buddha's announcement: "Did Buddha specify what he plans to do?"

It's not important that they've shown their enmity, but what Buddha plans to do is crucial.

"Buddha declared two things."

Ao Luan answered: "Firstly, the Immortals are to search for the reincarnation of the Jade Emperor and welcome him back to the Heavenly Palace."

"Oh."

Sun Wukong was not surprised; after the assembly, the Immortals and Buddhists had effectively formed an alliance.

Searching for the Jade Emperor was an inevitable request from the Taoism.

The Immortals of the Heavenly Palace and Lingshan will collaborate but not submit to Buddhism; nominally, Buddha will still regard the Jade Emperor as the Heavenly Venerate.

Thus, looking for the Jade Emperor became an inevitable joint task for both sides.

"And the other matter?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"The other matter is related to the Human Clan."

Immortal Zhen Yuan took over: "Buddha announced that the Immortals and Buddhists will enter the world to protect the stability of all nations until the eradication of the evil cult, which is your Heavenly Taoist Sect."

"Eradication?"

Sun Wukong suddenly became more solemn.

Although he knew that Buddha wanted to eradicate the Heavenly Taoist Sect, he did not expect him to denounce it publicly as an evil cult.

However, these words are quite effective for the nations of the Human Clan; indeed, the Heavenly Taoist Sect is a dangerous existence that can overturn governments.

Buddha stated that he wanted to protect the stability of the nations, implying that the Immortals and Buddhists will support the kings and vow to crush the Wanling Heavenly Dao.

"Have the nations reacted?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"…They have."

Immortal Zhen Yuan, well-informed, said: "Some countries in the Western Continent are now destroying your wooden sculptures everywhere, forbidding citizens to learn and practice the Wanling Heavenly Dao."

"Can that really be stopped?"

Long Armed Ape Monkey couldn't help but interject.

"It can be stopped."

Sun Wukong answered him.

Most of the Human Clan is not well-educated, and kings can manipulate public opinion and deceive the people if they wish.

"Junior brother, Lingshan and Heavenly Palace combined have a million Heavenly Soldiers, and the number of Immortals and Buddhists far exceeds us."

Immortal Zhen Yuan said: "They have enough manpower to manage the Four Great Continents."

"Not just enough."

Sun Wukong thought to himself that Lingshan simply had more people than there was space to accommodate.

The immortals of the Heavenly Palace had managed the Three Realms for tens of thousands of years, going to the Ten States and Three Islands.

While the Buddhist sect has always been calm and seldom walked the worldly paths, the number of enlightened beings was no less than that of the Heavenly Palace, and their full emergence this time would be quite terrifying.

"Our numbers are still too few."

Wukong was somewhat troubled.

He had to think of a way to awaken the citizens of Wanling Country sooner rather than later.

But such a solution wasn't easy to come by.

However, two days later, Long Armed Ape Monkey brought Wukong an unexpected answer.

"Great King, the Demon Kings are seeking an audience outside."

That morning, Long Armed Ape Monkey walked with Sun Wukong out of Shuilian Cave.

As Sun Wukong stepped out, below the waterfall, dozens of Demon Kings with demons sprawling all over the mountain stood there.

"What are you all doing?"

Asked Sun Wukong.

"Great King, Huaguo Mountain is developing too quickly, and we can contribute very little."

Long Armed Ape Monkey turned to face Sun Wukong and said, "We respectfully ask that the Great King teach us the Heavenly Dao so that we can also be of help."

"Teach the Heavenly Dao?"

Sun Wukong was taken aback, then quickly realized, his expression growing stern: "Do you mean to learn from those foreign demons..."

"Exactly."

Long Armed Ape Monkey nodded and said, "For the sake of Your Majesty's hegemony, we have carefully chosen, specifically selecting seventy thousand of our kin."

Wukong's expression changed abruptly: "Impossible!"

"To serve the Great King is the supreme honor of Huaguo Mountain."

Long Armed Ape Monkey added.

The demons of Huaguo Mountain all knew that Sun Wukong had provided them with everything wonderful.

But in the past, they had not given enough in return to this sincere King.

Now, with Huaguo Mountain facing turbulent times, Sun Wukong needed help, and the demons naturally did not want to stand by idly.

"Please grant us this, Great King."

Long Armed Ape Monkey bowed down on his knees.

"Please grant us this, Great King."

The demons scattered all over the mountains bowed down one after another.

Sun Wukong swept his gaze over them; among them were some figures he was familiar with, but even more were citizens who had not left an impression on him.

Sun Wukong felt a tremor in his heart; how could he possibly turn these citizens into robots?

"Great King."

Long Armed Ape Monkey kowtowed once: "Please grant our wish."

The mountainside full of demons all bowed down.

"Please grant us this, Great King!"

That multitude of voices joined together, shaking the entirety of Huaguo Mountain.

The immortals flew over from Yunxiao City, astonished at the scene.

Sun Wukong looked up at Ao Luan, seeing a gaze that was helpless, pained, but also resolute.

"So it's like this."

Sun Wukong suddenly understood.

A person who refuses others' allegiance has no right to be a king.

"So be it."

Sun Wukong made his decision: "I will strip you of your emotions for five years."

The cost of five years of emotions wouldn't teach them much, but it would allow these demons to perform some auxiliary and clerical tasks, filling the significant void in the Wanling populace.

"Thank you, Great King."

The demons joyfully stood up.

"A bunch of willful fellows."

Sun Wukong thought, casually unfolding the Wanling Chart in the sky.

"You don't have to go."

He then said to Long Armed Ape Monkey, "If you go, it would be rather dull by my side."

Long Armed Ape Monkey was stunned, hesitated for a moment, but then nodded in agreement.
