The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 405: Clearing the Path for Wanling

After a loud bang, the splendid North Sea Dragon Palace collapsed.

The North Sea Dragon King, covered in wounds, watched the demons surrounding him, his eyes gradually losing their Immortal Light.

"Father."

The Crown Prince, holding a long spear, stood before him: "You have lost."

Ao Shun shook his head: "I should not have sent you to Huaguo Mountain."

All the Dragon Princes and Princesses had gone to Huaguo Mountain for training, and it was normal for them to have a good impression of it, but Ao Shun was shocked that his son betrayed him for Huaguo Mountain.

"The decision you made back then was the right one."

The Crown Prince put away his spear and said, "If I hadn't gone to Huaguo Mountain, I wouldn't have realized how vast this world is."

"Heavenly Palace cannot give our Dragon Clan hope."

Another Dragon Princess replied: "Father, please, let's go and see Dragon Palace City. The prosperity of East Sea has already surpassed us; we cannot resign ourselves to mediocrity."

"Resign to mediocrity?"

It was the first time Ao Shun had heard someone describe the North Sea Dragon Palace with these words.

He sighed but had to admit, the Dragon Palace City built by East Sea was indeed magnificent and splendid, attracting all the Sea Clans of the Four Great Continents.

"Father, the trend is unstoppable."

The Crown Prince said, "Please come with us to Huaguo Mountain."

"Forget it."

Ao Shun helplessly waved his hand: "I leave it to you."

The Crown Prince called over an old turtle pulling a carriage.

"Father, please."

He opened the carriage curtain, and Ao Shun bent over and walked in.

"Set forth!"

With the Crown Prince's command, the Sea Clan of North Sea headed towards the East Sea.

After an incense stick burned down, the Immortals arrived.

Shangqing looked around the Dragon Palace; amidst the ruins, traces of battle could still be seen.

"We've arrived too late."

He said.

Though they were fast, the fall of the North Sea Dragon Palace was faster.

The Jade Emperor furrowed his brows slightly and sent someone to find the shrimp soldiers left in the Dragon Palace.

"Where is the Dragon King?"

He asked.

"He, he was captured by Huaguo Mountain."

The shrimp soldier replied.

"Your Majesty."

Shangqing asked, "Can we rebuild the North Sea Dragon Palace?"

"No."

The Jade Emperor shook his head.

The Dragon King was captured, and the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal was not in his hands; the Jade Emperor couldn't appoint another Dragon King.

Without the Dragon Clan, there was no suitable person to lead the ocean.

Only ruins remained here, staying was pointless.

"We will return to Kunlun Mountain."

Having no other choice, the Jade Emperor decided to return to Kunlun Mountain.

As the Immortals were leaving the ocean, a figure blocked their way.

"Why is Maitreya Buddha here?"

The Jade Emperor asked.

The one blocking their way was indeed the Eastern Buddha.

"I come by the Buddha's decree."

The Eastern Buddha pressed his palms together: "The Buddha said Your Majesty has just awakened and must be confused, so he sent me to clarify things."

The Jade Emperor frowned: "What confusion do I have?"

"Your Majesty is troubled about what to do next."

The Eastern Buddha replied.

After awakening, the Jade Emperor seemed to be standing with Lingshan, but his first destination was the North Sea Dragon Palace, clearly not having made a firm decision.

"Your Majesty should reclaim Heavenly Palace."

The Eastern Buddha said.

The Heavenly Palace symbolizes the Lord of the Three Realms, and if the Jade Emperor reclaims it, it could influence the hearts of all beings.

But the Jade Emperor had not done so, showing that he was not yet resolved to oppose Sun Wukong.

"Your Majesty, if you do not stop Sun Wukong, disasters will befall the Three Realms."

The Eastern Buddha said: "Please, Your Majesty, make a decision soon."

"I do not need to heed Buddha's arrangements!"

The expression on Jade Emperor's face turned cold, and he no longer listened to the persuasion of the Eastern Buddha, but turned and flew towards the Eastern Continent.

The Eastern Buddha slightly frowned and quickly followed him.

"Do you really wish to remain subordinate to Wanling?"

The Eastern Buddha continued to persuade.

However, Jade Emperor no longer responded, his gaze fixated on the cities passing beneath him.

This was his first time seeing the cities of the Northern Continent—it was not as prosperous as Huaguo Mountain, but there was very delicate planning already in place, vastly different from other Divine Continents.

"Only a few years, yet these cities were built..."

Jade Emperor was very surprised.

If he and Buddha were to tap into the potential of mortals, it would take them thousands of years to achieve such a miracle.

Some cultivators in the Northern Continent also noticed the light of the Jade Emperor and looked over with a gaze very different from before.

Reverence, awe—yet more was fear.

Those cultivators knew what was happening in the Three Realms and did not wish to return to their old lives.

Jade Emperor had no doubt that if he were to destroy the Wanling Heavenly Dao, those cultivators would definitely come up and fight desperately.

"What's the point even if I take over the Three Realms?"

Jade Emperor couldn't help but think.

Even if he won, the hearts of the people he had lost could not be regained.

"If Your Majesty defeats Sun Wukong, you will be able to control the Wanling Heavenly Dao."

Seeing Jade Emperor's thoughts, the Eastern Buddha quickly spoke, "Buddha says Your Majesty understands reason better than Sun Wukong, and is willing to hand it over to Your Majesty."

Jade Emperor stopped moving forward, turning his head, "Is that really true?"

"Indeed, it is true."

Seeing a glimmer of hope, the Eastern Buddha continued, "This turmoil in the Three Realms has caused Buddha to bear deep sins needing to endure the sufferings of reincarnation, and he will pose no threat to Your Majesty."

Jade Emperor's expression suddenly turned to one of astonishment.

"Very well."

He altered some of his attitude: "Earlier you mentioned the disaster in the Three Realms, what exactly is it?"

"This matter involves Hidden Soul..."

The Eastern Buddha used magic to prevent their voices from being heard outside and began to explain.

In Lingshan, watching this scene, Sun Wukong slightly frowned.

"This game, I have won."

Buddha stated.

Sun Wukong turned his head towards Gouchen, who should have been beside him, but he had not come over ever since this competition began.

Gouchen was his strongest card, who had been closed-eyes accumulating power; the more chaotic the Four Great Continents became, the stronger Gouchen's power grew.

Because of his existence, Buddha and Sun Wukong sat together, maintaining the balance of Lingshan.

But that balance was soon to be broken.

When Jade Emperor and Maitreya Buddha made contact, Gouchen opened his eyes.

The person he truly pledged loyalty to was the Jade Emperor, and the Jade Emperor's decisions dictated his actions.

Sun Wukong looked towards Gouchen.

Buddha's gaze also shifted over.

Before long, Gouchen felt a surging battle intent coming from the aura of the Three Thousand Immortal Paths.

"Your Majesty has made a decision."

He took flight, saying to Sun Wukong, "It seems you are ultimately outsmarted."

"Amitabha."

Buddha realized the moment to battle had arrived.

"Let it begin."

With his command, the Immortals of Lingshan began to chant.

Scriptures fell like rain from the sky, and Emperor Qinghua looked towards Emperor Gouchen.

"Gouchen, haven't you reached Enlightenment yet?"

He asked.

Gouchen sighed, and in the next moment, he moved to the other side of Sun Wukong.

The chanting from the Immortals paused.

"Why like this?"

Buddha looked at Gouchen in shock; Jade Emperor had already made a decision, why was Gouchen still protecting Sun Wukong.

"The Great Emperor is right."

Gouchen spoke quietly: "All beings have chosen the Wanling Heavenly Dao."

"I am the War God."

His aura of battle intention gradually boiled over: "I am destined to pave the way for Wanling."
