Chapter 3773: Need Extra Help
"Umbral Field, uh?" Rean and Roan followed Xian out of that area, returning to where they first arrived.
Once there, the Umbra that Tissal had attacked was waiting for him in front of the Xian’s floating Black Sphere home. The surprise on his face to see Xian was obvious, especially since Xian didn’t seem to have lost any of his Shadow Energy. "You are back!"
Xian gave him a thumbs-up. "Of course! I prepared an escape route before I caught Tissal’s attention. How about you? Did you manage to finish absorbing the out Umbra?"
The guy nodded vigorously. "Thanks to you, I got it right. My mind wasn’t affected."
Xian then exchanged a few more words with that Umbra before the guy finally went away. Then, Xian opened the Black Sphere once again, and he brought the twins inside with him. At the moment, all the other kids had gone out to absorb the mindless Umbras to replenish their energy, leaving Xian and the twins alone.
Rean stopped using his Light Bending Skill, prompting a question immediately afterward. "Xian, since all the constructions in this place, even the walls of this installation, are made of the Umbras’ energies, can’t you simply absorb them to recover?"
Xian shook his head. "I can’t. One of my older brothers, who the orb has absorbed years ago, told me about it. He said no one can. Once your energy passes through the Constructor Orb, it changes. You can still control it a little bit, just like I do to open our home. But it definitely can’t be used to increase your level. It simply doesn’t match our energy."
"I see..." Rean found it pretty weird.
He still had one last doubt he had been holding himself from asking so far. "Xian, you can use your Shadow Energy to control the laws, right?" Xian nodded and waited for Rean to continue his question. "Here’s the thing. Roan and I noticed the three laws you were able to control. Some Umbras can control more, others less. However, not only you, but Tissal and Calanti, and likely all Umbras, also seem to control one extra law that we can’t identify. Do you know what law is that?"
Xian heard the question, nodding. "That’s-"
*Bzt!*
However, out of nowhere, his body seemed to distort for a second, surprising Rean and Roan.
"Go ahead, seniors. Ask your question," said Xian, seemingly unaware of what just happened.
The twins looked at each other, and then Rean repeated his question.
*Bzt!*
Once again, just as Xian was about to answer the question, his body distorted, and it was as if his memory went back a few seconds, to before Rean asked anything.
That highly confused Rean and Roan.
From inside the Dimensional Realm, Kentucky couldn’t help but ask. ’Doesn’t that distortion look more like the noise you see on screens with a bad signal?’
Rean and Roan couldn’t have said it better. ’It sure does...’
They were right; the distortion they saw resembled an image with a bad signal or one that had been affected by interference. It was as if Xian’s body had several tears for a moment, truly something you only see on screens or any kind of projection made through the use of electronic equipment, circuitry formation devices, and such.
’He obviously isn’t allowed to talk about that law,’ Roan commented. ’And there isn’t anything we can do to force it. The kid hasn’t even noticed what happened. Maybe he would be free from that problem if we could bring him inside the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm, but we obviously can’t do that now.’
Xian was still confused, waiting for Rean’s question. "Is something wrong, Senior Rean?"
"No..." Rean shook his head, patting Xian’s head with a smile. "It was just a stupid question, nothing worth paying attention to."
Since there wasn’t anything else, Roan decided to end things here. "Alright, Xian, Rean and I will have to leave. There is something in this Umbral Field we need to take a look at."
"Really?" Xian couldn’t help but grow sad. "I... understand. Thank you for saving my life, Seniors. Am I going to see you again?"
"Actually..." Rean bitterly smiled, "We hoped you would come with us to help keep our presence hidden."
"Eh?!" Xian was taken aback. "G-Go with you? Go where? The central areas are very dangerous. The Level Three Umbras would definitely take us all on the spot. I heard Calanti talking about it before with another Umbra, how he saw a Level Three Umbra coming out and capturing various Level Two. They obviously were using the Level Two Umbras just like they do to us Level Ones."
Rean and Roan had already talked about it. Since Xian, who was at the bottom of the food chain, found Roan that easily, what about the other higher-level Umbras? Sure, Rean and Roan wouldn’t be afraid of Level Two Umbras. However, there would be simply no place for them to hide. Rean’s concealing ability doesn’t hide them from Umbras’ natural Intent and Soul detections. It would be even less likely to work against Level Three Umbras.
The only thing they saw capable of hiding them was Xian’s Shadow Energy. Obviously, Rean and Roan couldn’t produce Shadow Energy. It was something created out of the expelled desires and emotions of the living beings of Universe D33. Sure, it was Yin in nature, and Roan was the epitome of Yin, but even he was powerless to copy such a thing.
"We are aware," Rean nodded. "But if we don’t go, we won’t be able to leave this place. You know we are living beings, and living beings aren’t supposed to be here. We can’t cultivate, we can’t replenish our energies either. Eventually, we will simply perish due to the lack of resources."
Roan added on the side. "But we found a clue that could help us get out of this place, and that is something located further inside the Umbral Field. It isn’t guaranteed that it will allow us to leave, but it is the only thing we have found so far. Don’t ask us what it is. Even we don’t know. We just know it is there, and we need to take a look at it."
"But if I leave, the young ones who fail to gather enough Shadow Energy will..." Xian was obviously conflicted. He was a significant support to the even younger Umbras, especially if some of them were captured and left on the verge of disappearing. The twins saw how he cared about them.
Rean and Roan didn’t force him. They knew they were asking quite a lot from the kid.
’Should we have one of our members stay here to help protect them from the shadows?’ Rean asked everyone.
’It obviously can’t be Kentucky,’ Roan observed. ’He is the one who can guide us to whatever is connected to the runes sealing the Fabric of Space.’
That said, there was only Celis, Foliana, Tanxan, and Zangeshu.
Foliana, Zangeshu, and Tanxan immediately refused the idea, though. ’The three of us are only in the Space-Time Realm. We aren’t anywhere near as good as you four. If a Level Two Umbra appears, who would obviously have a strength similar to a Divinity Realm Expert, we can’t kill it straight away. We can definitely fight if we join forces and if that Umbra isn’t too strong, but we will attract a lot of attention. Forget about defeating the enemy, though. Best case scenario, we would scare the guy away, and it would lead to even more troubles instead.’
Celis sighed. ’Alright, seems like it is up to me to stay here then.’
’Are you sure?’ Rean asked. ’Don’t forget that we can’t enter the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm. If something happens, neither of us can use the Dimensional Realm to teleport back to help you.’
’There is still me,’ Kentucky commented. ’I will stay in the Dimensional Realm to help Rean and Roan. Only my Divine Sense has to go out, after all. If Celis’s situation gets too bad, I can still come out by his side, and together we can at least flee. It’s just that I won’t be able to help Rean and Roan anymore at that point either. So, coming out to help Celis would be a last resort.’
Both Kentucky and Celis were definitely pretty much at the twins’ level of strength, only slightly behind in overall power but with advantages in other areas. Celis could certainly defend the kids and still stay hidden. He has plenty of Rean’s Light Element Equipment and knows how to use the Light Bending Skill as well. There was a problem, though...
’But for this to work, we need another Umbra,’ Celis pointed out. ’After all, I can only hide from sight, not from their natural Intent and Soul detection. Only the Shadow Energy of another Umbra can make up for it.’
The twins could only turn to Xian. "We have a friend who can stay and help you like Roan and I did," Rean commented. "However, he needs another Umbra to cover him with Shadow Energy so he can help without anyone noticing."
Xian immediately understood. "Ah! Then let me call my Older Sister. She will definitely help!"
