Death… And Me

Chapter 3837: Make or Break

Chapter 3837: Make or Break

A little bit over a hundred and twenty hours remaining before the end of the Celestial Soul System’s Upgrade... The twins’ group was still hidden in the Celestial Soul Dimensional Realm, with no intention of coming out at all. They didn’t even try to access the Werdlem Network or this Universe’s Private Network. That way, they wouldn’t give any chance of being found through any methods. It wouldn’t be nice if they suddenly needed the system, and it was unavailable.

---

Yet, things were still complicated all over the Universe. As mentioned before, experts of the same level as Umbras were stronger than the Umbras, as they could harness Divine Energy or any other energy they used for cultivation and battles. The problem was that there were way too many Umbras!

Don’t get the wrong idea. Intelligent Umbras were by far fewer in number than the intelligent living beings in D33. The problems were mainly the mindless Umbras. Those, on the other hand, were just too numerous!

The Level Two and Three Umbras knew precisely how to manipulate the mindless ones, and they used it to their full advantage. Thanks to that, the Umbras actually had an advantage in this big Universe War.

The worst place was definitely the Mortal Realm, where the Transition Realm was usually your highest cultivation. If there was a place where the Umbras would act rampantly without resistance, it was definitely there.

Fortunately, the Light of the Provider also understood that fact and sent many experts down to help with the resistance there. It’s just that it also weakened their forces in the three higher realms.

Not everything was a sea of flowers for the Umbras, though. The longer they spent outside, the more obvious it became. They acquired information, managed to get some of the Light Propagators of Class Seven and above, and even read their memories, finding out about the Werdlem Empire.

If there were a Werdlem Empire, and this place was kind of a lab with very useful guinea pigs, the Werdlem Empire had to come out and help sooner or later, right?

However, when they checked the private network and shared information, they were surprised to discover that a Level Four Umbra existed. That same Level Four Umbra destroyed the Great Void Shifter, so the Werdlem Empire wouldn’t come that soon.

Well... there was a Level Four Umbra... but where was he? That Umbra didn’t contact any of the Level Three or Two Umbras. No one had any idea where he was and what he was doing. Could it be he was killed? If not, why wasn’t he helping?

Another issue that became apparent to the Umbras was their need for energy, known as Shadow Energy or Emotional Energy. What created the Umbras that were the bottom of the food chain for Umbras? Emotions! How did the emotions get behind the Fabric of Space? Naturally, it was the Light Spreaders... which didn’t work anymore! The Corrupted System was gone, and that Emotion Purging ability was something that only the Emotional System could do. Even the Werdlem Empire couldn’t copy it, and they tried.

There were still many, many, many mindless Umbras, but they were now finite. Each one absorbed or sacrificed in battle was one less Umbra. The same went for all other levels of Umbras. Could it be the Umbras were doomed to die of hunger? At this moment, the Umbras weren’t certain, but they couldn’t stop either. Above all, they had to take over this Universe, and only then could they look for some other solution. Perhaps they could try to take over someone else’s bodies, although that wouldn’t be the same.

---

At the very center of the Universe, there was the Universe’s Foundation Pillar. If the twins’ group were here, they would have easily recognized it, as it was pretty similar to their Lisan Universe’s Pillar as well. However, just like back in Lisan, that Foundation had a natural protection field that didn’t let anyone get too close.

The Foundation Pillar was also there to separate the Chaos Source from the rest of the Universe, and acted as a filter for the Chaos Energy and Laws. That was the Universe’s Source of all cultivation energy, laws, essences, elements, etc. It was natural that it was well protected. No Universe was an exception. This barrier, as one from a Rank D Universe, was even more powerful than what the Lisan Universe had.

Usually, you would need one of those Spaceships properly made to rob a Chaos Source to get through this barrier. There were differences between them, though. In fact, if you took the Spaceship used back in the Lisan Universe, it wouldn’t even scratch the barrier of D33, such was the difference in level between the two universes. You would need something much, much stronger.

Of course, this was already a Universe inside the Werdlem Empire, so there was no need for its Chaos Source to be robbed.

Only one being could get past this barrier and reach the Pillar without those spaceships, the Universe owner himself. No, that was wrong. It wasn’t that the Universe Owner could do it, but that the Universe Owner had the Universe Root Egg in his body. The Root Egg allowed him to do that instead.

"Let’s see... it should work now," said a shadow man, right in front of that same barrier protecting the Foundation Pillar.

He extended his hands, which were holding a multicolored egg-shaped item. The Foundation Barrier reacted to the egg, and a gap began to open.

Naturally, that was the Level Four Umbra. As for the Universe Root Egg, he got it from Kunprio when he killed him. He had been gone for the last several days, trying to use his own Celestial Laws to control the Universe Root Egg.

The Umbra couldn’t tell exactly who the owner of the memory fragments was, the ones he was made of. However, within those memories, there was information regarding how to become a Universe Owner. It’s just that a Level Four Umbra wasn’t really a Celestial Realm Expert. It was something else, so the method had to be adapted for himself, and he wasn’t entirely sure if it was going to work.

Nonetheless, he had made up his mind as the gap in the Foundation Pillar grew big enough for him to enter. "Make or break... let’s hope it works."

Finally, he entered, disappearing inside.
