Death… And Me

Chapter 4295: Ugly

Chapter 4295: Ugly

Roan thought about it. The Destiny Attraction liked these things, so there was a good chance that this Godly Predator went where Wurshan and the airplane were located. If that’s the case, going there now would be pretty much suicide.

"Guess I’m going back on foot," Roan didn’t think much before completely discarding the idea of checking the airplane now.

’Wait, what?!’ Rean quickly complained. ’You can’t just leave them there! You should at least take a look to see if you can do something.’

Roan snotered in response. ’Do I look like a saint to you? We were lucky to have fought a Godly Predator that had just become one, and we had both you and me, not to mention the Yin Yang Sanctuary and the Array. None of this is available to me now.’

’But you do have the Godly Pressure disguise and my transformation technique,’ Rean countered. ’I’m not saying you should fight the Godly Predator. Instead, I’m only asking you to take a look and see if there is anything you can do safely.’

’You forgot one thing,’ Roan continued. ’This Godly Predator killed the Godly Beasts, so the disguise is meaningless if it decides to attack me as well.’

’Yes, the Godly Beasts,’ Rean pointed it out. ’Didn’t you notice? The female Godly Spawn Alligators in the area haven’t been killed. Obviously, this Godly Predator has no interest in Godly Spawn level creatures. Come on! Wurshan was quite good to you, so he deserves at least a little bit of your concern. Also... had you not left and helped organize everything, you would likely have left with everyone already. It is partially due to your asking for an investigation that held your group this long there.’

Roan narrowed his eyes, thinking about it for a moment. It was true that none of the female Godly Spawn Alligators had been killed. All bodies in this place were from Godly Beasts only. He especially didn’t like that it might have been his fault, too. ’Tch...’

Finally, Roan changed into the alligator form again with Rean’s technique and resumed his release of Godly Pressure. Before going back, however, he looked once again at those corpses. All of them seemed to covered in some kind of black goo. He wondered if that was an ability of the Godly Predator. In any case, he turned around and began to make his way back.

He was still far from the airplane, and even at full speed, it would take Roan about an hour to get there. Roan, obviously, didn’t go at full speed, as it would have used up his energy reserves. He took an hour and a half to get there because of it.

Roan checked his Ring Communicator and the last location of the airplane on the map. Moving slowly now, he used the swamp trees as cover while the few Godly Spawn Alligators that were still alive ignored him, thinking Roan was one of them.

The airplane was stationed in a clearing, and Roan approached from the west, jumping on the highest tree he could find there to take a look from a distance.

As soon as he jumped up and had some line of sight, he noticed the smoke coming from the clearing’s direction. He continued up, and from the top of the tree, he focused his Godly Energy in his eyes. ’Sure enough...’

The airplane was barely visible from his location, but Roan could see that it was completely trashed. The smoke was mostly from it, as the runes that accumulated the Celestial Energy were probably broken during a high-demand moment. ’See? That should be enough,’ Roan told Rean.

Rean disagreed, though. ’That only says the airplane was broken, not that it was attacked. Pieces of equipment can fail, you know? Just check if you can’t find any of the cultivators of your group. If they were really attacked by the Godly Predator, some of them definitely tried to run and might be somewhere around the area.’

Roan sighed but went ahead with that plan. He kept his eyes open and approached slowly. Every ten minutes, Roan released his Godly Sense for a fraction of a second, just enough to get an idea of what was ahead, but far from enough to get a good picture. Even after being that restrained, every use of the Godly Sense made Roan’s reserves go down by two or three percent. The simple activation of it was also just as energy-expensive.

Just when he was getting close enough to see the clearing, his Godly Sense detected a powerful concentration of Godly Pressure ahead, far more than the environment naturally had. Roan stopped. That Godly Pressure was way higher than the Godly Pressure given by the Godly Beasts.

Roan didn’t turn around to flee, though. ’How...’

What surprised him when he used his Godly Sense the last time was that he detected most of the cultivators of his group gathered in the clearing as well. And this time, he was close enough to know they were not bodies. They were all alive. It’s just that the big Godly Pressure was also in the same place.

*Roar!*

At that moment, Roan heard a roar, so loud it made his ears ring for a moment. Even worse, the roar was directed at him. ’Fuck!’

Roan immediately turned around, prepared to leave. However...

*Bang, bang, bang, bang!*

Several of the swamp trees were knocked down, as if they were just sticks. It only took three seconds...

*Bang!*

And a Godly Creature landed in front of Roan, glaring at him.

Roan stopped on his track, narrowing his eyes. ’Too fast... escaping it will likely be impossible.’

The Godly Creature, which looked like an alligator at first glance, was anything but normal. Its body was twisted and uneven, covered in scales that shifted between jagged crystal and warped, half-molten plates, with pulses of Godly Energy flowing beneath them like glowing veins.

Its jaw didn’t quite align, layered in a way that let faint strands of energy leak out with each breath, while one eye remained cold and reptilian and the other shone as a pupil-less sphere of condensed light locked onto Roan. ’This thing is ugly as fuck...’

Well, not that Roan found alligators beautiful to start with.

The distorted creature approached Roan, but Roan couldn’t feel any intention of attacking. It began to sniff Roan as it walked around him. Roan, obviously, had his hands ready to summon his Crystal Void Scythes.

After what looked like an eternity, the Alligator seemed to lose interest in Roan and walked past him, running back to the clearing where the broken airplane and the cultivators were located.

’Perhaps it also found you ugly as fuck,’ Rean commented.

Roan’s mouth twitched. ’You do know we have the same face, right?’

’But I’m obviously a lot more charismatic, which means everything!’ Rean struck back.

Well, Roan’s body was transformed at that moment, so that conversation made no sense.

Roan decided to ignore Rean now. Relying on the idiot wouldn’t change anything here.
