Chapter 6105, World of Wonders
Author: Silavin
“Oh?” Yang Ji exclaimed and started dashing forward with excitement.
However, as if to pour cold water over the youth, Wu Lun warned. “Hey, hey, hey. Who told you to directly head there?”
*Pa* Seemingly maybe because he was still not used to his current strength, or maybe it was because he was too taken aback by those words, Yang Ji managed to slip and his face got planted into the soft leaf litter on the ground.
Thanks to the soft, rich nutrient ground, Yang Ji did not get injured, but his whole face and body certainly got a new makeover. If one were to call him a beggar, he would find it hard to dispute those words.
“Ahh…” Muttering a sigh and expressing his various emotions all at once, Yang Ji looked up from the ground and started to complain, “Why didn’t you tell me beforehand, before I started running?”
“What are you talking about? That was all on you. I didn’t tell you to move, did I? Don’t blame me for how you lost your balance.” Wu Lun jabbed and he continued to explain, “Listen up. You are currently no different from a baby walking through a deathtrap. You think you’re the only one who noticed that disturbance? You might be able to tear through Space and directly arrive at the spot in an instant back then, but now you need to move through a forest, full of hidden dangers, on foot. You can’t possibly expect yourself to stay safe if you rush forward like this.”
“You say all that, but aren’t I still headed there in the end?” Yang Ji stood up and dusted off the leaves on his face. He even checked his new ‘clothes’ to see if they had dropped off, or got damaged.
It was fortunate that they still held on. Else, he had to remake it again…
“*Tsk tsk tsk*. It’s not the same. Your Divine Sense is limited right now. But, if you directly head over there, you would need to cross over the territory of another Divine Spirit.” Wu Lun warned him. “Don’t forget your identity as a Divine Spirit. Though you tend to prefer your Human Form more, seeing as your Parents keep to their Human Forms, you can’t forget this key identity of yours.”
Yang Ji, upon hearing this, understood what Wu Lun was trying to explain. After all, Divine Spirits, Ancestors of the Monster Race, naturally held some traits that were passed down. One of those was the consumption of other Divine Spirits to help one cultivate. Though Yang Ji had never done this before, he had heard from Mother Shan Qing Luo that it was dangerous for young Divine Spirits to roam about on their own because of this.
This warning was more towards Yang Ji’s Brothers and Sisters. But right now, he had to heed it with greater awareness, since he now lacked the ability to tear through Space at will.
“Okay. Okay. I get it. I need to be more careful. But, some of what you are saying doesn’t make sense. If there is a Divine Spirit there, then wouldn’t this whole forest be filled with Divine Spirits? I’m sure even the place I’m in is someone else’s territory.” Yang Ji questioned while he turned around to look, scanning the place once more with his Divine Sense.
“It depends on whose territory you’re in. Also, there’s no way I would throw you into some Tiger’s den in the state you’re in.”
“You say that, but didn’t you throw me here butt naked?”
“Hey hey, lighten up. There’s a reason as to why I do certain things. Right now, you are in a safe territory, mainly because the one who rules over this part of the forest doesn’t bother with lower beings like you. In short, you are an Ant not worth taking the effort to stomp on. But for the one upfront, that one is a little greedier. Even if Ants can’t fill the gaps between its teeths, it will still take a bite.” Wu Lun shrugged and said it matter-of-factly. It was as though he had intimate knowledge of the situation here.
“In that case, what am I supposed to do?” Yang Ji questioned.
“Just follow my lead. It’ll take about three days to get there. And, don’t worry. The opportunity will still be there. Also, during this time, do not cultivate, understand? You will travel solely using your physical body.” Wu Lun delivered the task as though a Master assigning his Disciple to pick up water from the river.
“Yeah yeah.” Yang Ji conceded and did as he was told.
The journey, though, was far harsher than what Yang Ji had initially thought.
The route he had to take did not just consist of the natural footpath on the ground. He was made to jump from tree to tree, swim through rapids, scale up cliffs, glide through the air using a huge leaf, dive down into a lake, move through underwater caverns… and the list went on…
Yang Ji, who already looked dishevelled after his first fall, was unrecognisable now. If he met with a beggar, even they would take pity on him at this point. His only ‘clothes’, the one he made, had broken apart who knows how many times, had been stitched together who knows how many times.
Still, the only thing that seemed to deceive this sorry state of his was that his skin held no marks of any injuries. This was not because he did not get injured. He did, multiple times, and had accumulated scratches and bruises. However, with his Phoenix Bloodline, he naturally recovered from all of such wounds within minutes.
At the same time, Yang Ji listened to whatever Wu Lun said to the letter, and abided by whatever he told him. This was not because he fully trusted Wu Lun, but rather, he could feel that he was gradually becoming stronger over time. The gains were by no means massive, but Yang Ji could feel that he had overall gained better control over his body compared to when he first came to the Outer Heaven.
Also, when he had spent time moving about, he felt strange… more able to appreciate the world around him. When Yang Ji thought about it, his adventures with Yang Xu had been quite rapid and quite effortless. He could move from one spot and another with just his thoughts, and the place he had visited would be ingrained within him such that he could always revisit it inside of his dreams.
This was technically the first time he was putting so much effort and time into going to a singular destination. Furthermore, the scenery of the places he had so far traversed was interesting.
Mountains and rivers did not flow like normal. Sometimes, rivers could flow upstream, and mountains did not need to connect to the lands beneath them.Trees came in all different shapes, colours and sizes, with some so big Yang Ji could not even reach their leaves unless he wanted to take a day or two to scale them.
He had even seen a river flowing from a tree’s branch to the trunk and then to the ground downstream. Beasts that flew in the air that dwarfed him hundreds of times. In just only three days, he had probably seen more here than his lifetime back home.
If he could, he definitely wanted to show all these sights to Yang Xu. However, right now, with their connection cut off, he could only wait until the day they could meet once more.
Still, for that day to come, he would need to establish his foundation first. And with Wu Lun’s words, Yang Ji knew that day would be today.
“We’re here. Up there.”
“Huh? Are you serious?” Yang Ji questioned as if Wu Lun was joking. However, the response he got was absolute, as though Wu Lun was thinking, ‘what the heck is this kid talking about?’
“Of course. It’s up there.”
Yang Ji stared at the scene in front of him in confusion.
In front of him was a floating island. This time, the water that flowed from it cascaded down like torrents, bashing the ground below.
[Wait. If it’s floating, then how did that earthquake even come about?] Yang Ji wondered as he looked to spot a few oval shaped shadows moving to and fro from this floating island.
“You can’t be expecting me to swim up that waterfall, right? It’s not heading up this time, you know.” Yang Ji reminded Wu Lun, who seemingly rolled his eyes.
“Of course not. If you happen to be scaling the waterfall when that island falls, you’d be crushed.”
“Erm… I think I will be crushed even if I’m on top of the island, if that happens.” Yang Ji seemed unwilling to budge on this issue.
“Relax. I’ve guided you all the way here. Do you think I don’t have a way for you to get up?” Wu Lun said in a relaxed manner. “Just wait a moment. Your ride will be here soon enough.”
“Huh?” Yang Ji murmured as he looked around. However, what he did not realise was that close to his feet, behind him, there was a shadow that was getting bigger…
