Liam took back his soul avatar, and almost instantly his power exploded many times over. Luna and his fire dao avatar had not been idle. With nothing holding them back and fully focused on hunting, the two of them had improved by leaps and bounds.
Thanks to this, his strain of handling two high-ranking souls immediately reduced a little. But the processing part still remained. Liam dove back inside and immediately he was in the midst of endless memories and fragments of Dao comprehension flooding him at the same time.
Maybe he could use the demon's soul as a base and form his second avatar? What if he tried to move his demonic core into this soul and stabilize it along with his own soul energy?
The concept was easy enough but it was very difficult to actually do it. Not to mention he did not have a lot of tries left. The soul was constantly degrading. He only had a few more seconds left before he lost all of it.
Liam sucked in a breath and gave it his all. He first tried to mix his soul energy with the demon's soul. It wouldn't be a normal merging. It had to be mixed at a fundamental level. With the intense pressure all around him, he hurriedly attempted to do the best he could when suddenly he felt a huge backlash build up.
No. This was not the way to go. Liam withdrew quickly enough but he still injured his soul anyways.
"Shit. Nothing is working." Liam cursed. Outside he could feel how much Luna was struggling. They really did not have a lot of time. Perhaps he was risking too much here. Perhaps it was time to leave.
Liam gritted his teeth unwilling to leave things like this. Running away is easy but could he afford to do that here. He had to change their fates no matter what. He once again started trying but the familiar rejection was waiting for him.
But just as he was about to bite the dust a second time, Liam suddenly noticed something strange. A small strand. An almost invisible strand of dense soul energy.
Liam's eyes instantly widened. Could this possibly be another soul thread?
He tried reaching the small strand but it quickly slipped from his grasp. "Come on. Come on." He tried again and again and again and finally he was able to lock onto it. However, the moment it was in his control he could feel it. This was not a soul thread. It was far from it. It was very weak and very flimsy.
Sure it was condensed soul energy that sort of held together everything but it was not a soul thread.
Something was not right. This strand had to be important. He had never come across anything like this before in weaker souls. Liam frowned. He quickly tried to examine the vampire soul if he could find a similar strand of condensed soul energy.
It took him a couple of seconds but he once again found a strand of soul energy in the vampire's soul. Liam stared at the two of them in amazement when a sudden thought popped in his head.
Individually, these strands were weaker but what if he joined them together? Could that form a soul thread?
Liam's heartbeat accelerated. It sounded almost too simple, but he couldn't dismiss the possibility. The mysterious soul thread inside his avatar had always appeared completely uniform whenever he examined it.
He had naturally assumed that it was a single structure, some rare form of condensed soul energy that he simply hadn't reached the level to create. But what if he had been looking at it the wrong way?
Liam forcefully pulled the two strands closer together. The difference between them immediately became obvious. He pushed them together harder. The two strands immediately rejected each other and snapped apart.
"Of course." He should have expected that much.
One had developed inside a demon while the other belonged to an ancient vampire. Their soul structures, Daos, and even the fundamental nature of their energy were completely different. Simply pressing them together wasn't going to magically produce what Liam wanted.
Outside, another tremendous impact crashed against Luna's barrier. The force was strong enough that Liam felt the vibration even within his soul space. He needed to hurry.
His thoughts moved furiously. There was something here. He could feel it. Both strands possessed the same strange density he had sensed from his original soul thread, yet neither was anywhere close to complete. They were supporting structures inside powerful souls, but individually they were too fragile.
Liam's attention shifted toward his original soul avatar. More specifically, toward the soul thread holding it together.
He had studied that thing countless times already, but always from the perspective of trying to reproduce its function. This time he ignored what it did and concentrated entirely on what it was.
His soul perception pressed closer. The thread expanded within his awareness. At first, he saw exactly what he had always seen before, a single impossibly thin strand of condensed soul power.
Liam pushed deeper. Pain stabbed through his consciousness. Another violent impact came from outside, and Luna's aura fluctuated for the first time.
Liam gritted his teeth. "Come on." His perception narrowed until practically his entire consciousness was concentrated on a tiny portion of the thread.
Liam froze. He saw it. He finally saw it. He had been on point all along. Dozens of microscopic patterns ran along the surface of the soul thread. Several soul threads were intertwined together to make that single strong, stable soul thread.
The question was whether they had to be compatible with each other or if they could be anything.
The answer did not matter. This was what he had at hand at this moment, and he needed to make this work. He once again tried to push the two soul threads together. This time, perhaps because he had a lot more conviction in his method, he was able to make them stick at a point.
Liam's eyes gleamed with excitement. This could actually work. Instead of trying to make the strands intertwine together completely, he simply tried making them stick at a few points. Without wasting time, he added his own soul strand to it as well.
It took a couple of attempts, but on the fourth try he had it. He actually had a thing resembling a thread. Could this really work?
This was it. The make or break moment. He had to end this now. Their presence was already found out, so he did not bother hiding anymore. He directly started absorbing all of the abundant soul energy all around them, the massive amounts still lingering in the battlefield.
He took out his newly formed demonic core and his vampiric core together and merged them with the tornado of soul energy that was forming around the makeshift thread.
The reaction was instantaneous.
The two cores violently rejected one another.
Dark demonic energy exploded outward from one side while a sea of crimson blood energy surged from the other. The tiny thread Liam had just created bent between them, stretched almost to its breaking point as the opposing forces tried to tear the entire structure apart.
Liam's expression changed. "Hold together."
He immediately changed their positions. The demonic core moved to one side of the forming structure. The vampiric core moved to the other. Liam placed the crude soul thread directly between them. Then he released a little of his control. The cores surged toward each other.
The makeshift thread became the bridge between them. Liam began feeding more soul energy into the structure. Soul energy began rushing toward Liam from every direction.
Thousands upon thousands of dead creatures had fallen here. Even with the conch devouring the majority of their souls, enormous amounts of fragmented soul energy still lingered throughout the battlefield.
Now Liam pulled all of it toward himself. Not able to withstand his call, even the conch started trembling as if it was about to break apart.
The Archon's expression changed. "What the hell is he doing?" Golden light gathered around his palm before crashing into Luna's barrier. The impact sent another shockwave across the battlefield.
Liam instantly felt it. The archon was now going all out. Perhaps before he was simply toying with Luna, and now he was no longer playing. He gritted his teeth. He knew he was on the verge of something, but it did not matter. Luna was more important. It was time to leave after all. He might have failed here, but he had also gained something valuable.
"LUNA! Activate the teleportation!" Liam roared.
At the same time, he tried to pull as much soul energy as possible. He wanted to hold onto the soul avatar as long as he possibly could. Perhaps it could succeed at the last minute.
But before anything could happen, an ancient voice resonated. "Brat, you almost have it. Do your thing. This old man will take care of the rest."
