Chapter 1703: Can’t Escape
With a thought, Old Man Tianji — who had spent countless generations as the Myriad Emperor World’s Heavenly Dao — suddenly heard a voice deep in his mind telling him to find a successor before ascending. He immediately understood he had no choice, so he calmly accepted his fate.
"It’s done," Maitreya stated.
Qiyuan nodded. "You should do something about the Chaos Demon Gods before you leave."
"I’ll take care of it," Maitreya nodded. The biggest issue plaguing this world used to be the Infinite Divine Court, but after crippling them, the spot switched to the Chaos Demon Gods. If Maitreya doesn’t do anything, they will definitely cause major chaos in her absence.
"I —" Qiyuan suddenly looked in the direction of the sect. He was not the only one. Maitreya sensed something and also gazed in that direction.
Dao Opening Sect:
As soon as Wang Wei passed out, Qiyuan sent a clone to check on his situation. He did not hesitate to spend their merit reserve to buy a healing pill for himself, but before he could do that, a secret transmission from Li Ming stopped. Instead, Qiyuan checked on the sect’s situation and dealt with the aftermath of all this trouble. However, midway through his work, Qiyuan suddenly sensed something and teleported into Wang Wei’s recuperating room.
"Lord Cardinal," Qiyuan bowed politely. However, despite his actions, Li Ming and he remained on the highest alert, ready to attack at any moment. Luckily for them, Maitreya suddenly appeared in the room, drastically reducing the tension.
"Lord Cardina, what can I do for you?"
"You can stop faking it," Time Cardinal said, his gaze not moving an inch from Wang Wei’s soul. "No matter what you do, Grand Dao will not allow you to not participate in this expedition." Unfortunately for him, Wang Wei’s skin was thick, and he did not move an inch.
Time Cardinal shook his head. "On account of your achievement of thwarting the Infinite Divine Court’s plot of infiltrating the world, Grand Dao has rewarded you with 10 purple cloud merits. This should be enough for you to buy the best Non-Saint healing pill."
Wang Wei still did not move, but at this point, everybody understood it was pointless for him to try to get out of this conscription. So, Qiyuan stepped up to receive the reward on his behalf. "Thank you, lord, for the reward. We will heal him in time for the expedition."
The Cardinal nodded before giving Qiyuan a knowing glance. "Don’t forget the karma you owe me."
"I won’t," Qiyuan sighed with a wry smile. When he made the deal, he did not fathom what kind of being he was dealing with. But now that he truly understands, he regrets it a little. In the cultivation world, karma is the scariest thing to owe somebody.
"Lord, while you’re here, could I ask you for a favor?" Maitreya asked.
"What is it?" Time Cardinal asked with a frown.
"Could you conscript these Chaos Demon Gods for the expedition?" Maitreya suddenly thought of using higher power to find these people and deal with them.
"No," Time Cardinal directly refused.
"Why not? They are excellent help."
"If Grand Dao wished for them to participate, they would have been conscripted."
’In other words, she has other plans for them,’ Maitreya thought. It was obvious what these creatures’ purpose was: to use their luck and destiny to complete the Eternal Ascension World’s transformation as the Destiny Center World. Unfortunately, the price of such a move is chaos and death at the hands of these creatures.
"I understand," Maitreya nodded. She has no choice now but to use her own method, which is probably way less effective than if a Tribunal Saint did it.
"I’ll see you during the expedition," the Time Cardinal uttered before disappearing.
"What kind of fuck up world we live in that a dying man can’t escape military service," Wang Wei’s soul complained. "Especially when your own people were partly responsible for your injury."
"Grand Dao seems a little too direct in her approach to deal with you," Qiyuan commented. This time around, Wang Wei only had two choices: participate or exile, and Grand Dao seems unrelenting.
"It was already on my shit list, and now, it just aggravated our relationship," Wang Wei sneered. He’s been waiting patiently for all his life until the day he’s strong enough to avenge himself against Grand Dao. And every once in a while, she gives him more ammunition for his hatred.
"Then, there is that Infinite Divine Court. Do they think they can plot against me without paying a price?"
Maitreya frowned. "Don’t try to do anything during the expedition. Just do your time, survive, and return home."
"You should understand that it’s too late for that," Wang Wei sighed. Grand Dao knew his personality well: he was not the kind of person who takes losses. So, as long as he participates in the expedition, the chances of him doing something to counterattack are quite high. That’s probably why he was given the position of commander before the event even started.
"Let’s not talk about this," Wang Wei said, trying to divert the conversation. He put his hand on his temple to condense a memory crystal and handed it over to Qiyuan. "This should be helpful to you."
Qiyuan used his divine sense to scan the content, and a look of surprise flashed in his eyes. "Thanks."
"No problem," Wang Wei waved. Qiyuan was in a similar situation to him with the Trinity Venerable, so his experience of removing the Fate Seed Status might prove helpful in dealing with his situation.
"This is for you," Maitreya said before giving him a space ring. Wang Wei perused the content and saw endless coffins laid next to each other, and he nodded. The materials for his Saint Art were now ready, making him feel more secure for the upcoming expedition.
"Saint, you should be injured from your battle. Will you be healed in time?"
"Do you need something?"
Wang Wei did not immediately answer; instead, he glanced at Qiyuan, who immediately activated the Heaven Deception Array. After so many years, Wu Hong finally completed the array before her departure, and Maitreya made the finishing touches.
"I want to ask you to help me create a legitimate and untraceable secret realm, and make a prophecy appear legitimate to even Tribunal Saints."
"You want to make your move on the All-Seeing Temple?"
"Most of the Saints will leave for the expedition, which is the perfect time to spread a false prophecy."
"Wouldn’t such timing make things more suspicious?" Qiyuan asked.
"Indeed, but it’s still the best time," Wang Wei nodded. He could have bet that his future self would help legitimize the prophecy, but he didn’t like the idea of relying on such an unreliable thing. As such, after weighing the pros and cons, Wang Wei decided to release the new prophecy during these Saints’ absence.
Maitreya grunted softly. "The secret realm is not an issue, but to try to make the prophecy look real might be beyond my ability." If she were allowed to stay in the primordial timeline and slowly worked on it, the chances of success would be as high as 80%. But now, she has very little time since she also has to heal her injury.
"What if you had help?" Wang Wei asked.
"You want to get Hongjun involved?" Qiyuan asked.
"Yes."
"Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"Hongjun’s actions are for two reasons: firstly, he foresaw the All-Fate Calamity, and secondly, because of the danger of the Chaos Demon Gods," Wang Wei explained. "If the All-Heaven Fate Calamity is truly my work, then the safety of the Prehistoric World will not be an issue. However, they cannot escape the tribulation of the Chaos Demon God. As long as he needs my help, he’s someone worthy to collaborate with."
"I’ll trust your judgment in this," Qiyuan sighed.
"If he’s willing to help, I should have no issue," Maitreya nodded.
Time was of the essence, so after concocting a plan, everybody dispersed. Maitreya went to heal and proceed with Wang Wei’s plan. Qiyuan has received some data from Ma Liquiu about the Unification Tower that he plans to hand over to Li Ming, who was planning on building an [Infinite Self Battle Tower] as his way of sanctification.
Meanwhile, Wang Wei did not immediately start healing his injuries; instead, he contacted his wife’s avatar, who brought his previous body with her.
"I’m glad you’re fine."
"Thank you," Wang Wei nodded calmly. He had an agreement with his wife. Unless it was "special time," they needed to reduce the level of affection when a man’s body dealt with a clone or avatar. Wu Hong did not say much and summoned the body.
"What do you plan to do with it?"
"I’m worried about the soul I left in that seal," Wang Wei revealed. Although he tried to destroy it before the transfer, Wang Wei did not think he had succeeded. "This body might become useful in case one of those two took that soul vessel."
