Chapter 1841: Faulty Disaster
Wang Wei looked at this perfectly circular white pill. With his senses, he could not find a single flaw, and the shape was not the only perfect thing: the ratio of medicinal power was perfectly attuned to his [Existence]. Squinting his eyes, Wang Wei uttered: "The inherent nature of free will is resistance. As long as a creature is intelligent and has emotion, it will not accept its determined fate. My son, do you think I wouldn’t understand such a concept?"
In his eyes, this pill was perfect in every aspect except for one small flaw: a small amount of obsession whose sole purpose is to ruin the perfect nature of the pill. In his final moments, Prime White Treant knew he could not escape death, but even in his despair, he chose to fight back — using his obsession to prevent his creator from achieving true perfection.
Unfortunately for him, Wang Wei’s understanding of human nature and Fate was better than his. He knew that Prime White Treant, or any of the other supremes, would resist and try to ruin his plan. After watching them grow to their peak, he understood these 12 better than they knew themselves. As such, their counterattack was a part of his plan.
Wang Wei never intended to swallow a perfect pill. His path was of fate, and his pursuit was absolute freedom. Perfection had nothing to do with his path, and in some cases, it may even hinder him. So, from the beginning, Wang Wei planned to add a bit of imperfection to the pill before swallowing. In other words, Prime White Treant’s obsession came at a perfect time. In fact, it made the pill even more suitable for Wang Wei because his spirit of rebellion, of resistance, of defying fate, perfectly resonated with Wang Wei’s Dao.
Taking one last look at this realm, Wang Wei noticed a small portion of the Three Pure Leaf’s power remaining. With a flicker of his wrist, the power flew out from the continent before condensing into a golden aura surrounding the perfect pill. Leaving the crumbling continent behind, Wang Wei exited the Grandmist Wheel with the pill.
As expected, as soon as he arrived outside, a pill tribulation manifested in his quarters. Without hesitation, he sent the pill inside one of the Chaos Worlds under his control. The tribulation did not care about his array and immediately began bombarding the perfect pill with dark lightning strikes.
The golden aura resisted the lightning tribulation with relative ease. However, Wang Wei knew this was just the beginning. Creation Tribulation was terrifying, and it’s even more so for Creation Resources. If not for this restriction, Emperor Path cultivators would be abusing the Grandmist Wheel to create whatever they want to increase their strength.
The dark lightning turned red, and fluctuation began to appear on the golden protective aura. Wang Wei remained calm, confident in his pill. The golden aura was just for cautionary measures. This pill has inherited the fighting will of all the Treant Races, meaning its battling instinct and capabilities were extremely high. With such power, passing the tribulation should be a piece of cake.
The tribulation clouds changed, and the lightning strikes turned golden red, signifying that the tribulation’s intensity had increased. Wang Wei frowned. His eyes focused on the cloud to verify something, "I’m not wrong. The power is decreasing." The weakening of the tribulation should have been good news for him, so why is he frowning?
"The tribulation should not be so weak," Wang Wei thought. No purple lightning has appeared, let alone purple-gold and other colors, but the clouds have already indicated that the tribulation will soon end. As the saying goes, when there is smoke, there is fire. In such a sensitive time, Wang Wei could not help but wonder why this was happening.
"Grand Dao is in charge of Heavenly Tribulation for Creation Lifeforms. Did something happen to her? No, in this timeline, the woman, Suiji, is the one in control of Grand Dao. Did something go awry in her recuperation?"
The expeditioners interrupted her Grand Dao Saint ascension, which means her injuries were indeed severe. However, given how she was able to attack with such ferocity afterward, maybe the injury wasn’t so bad. However, there is also the possibility that her previous actions were made in a moment of anger, and now that she has calmed down, the true damage is showing up.
"No, something fishy is going on," Wang Wei thought. "Suiji would never show such weakness to her enemy — unless she couldn’t help it or as bait to lure the expeditioners into thinking she was weak, enticing them to attack her so she can catch them off guard. However, why use such an approach? Time is in her advantage. The longer she waits, the more her injuries will improve, and the higher her chances of eliminating everybody."
Wang Wei’s mind entered overdrive, using every piece of information available to him.
"The bait is statistically lower as a possibility than the fact that she has lost most of her control of Grand Dao to the point of not even being able to fake it. However, the information I have on her is too little to make an informed conclusion."
Wang Wei knew little about the woman Suiji. What her personality was, how she thinks, what kind of mind she has, and how she operates. Without all this information, his analysis of her actions and decisions is not liable. Wang Wei calmed down as he prepared to use the perfect pill. A thought suddenly popped into his head:
"Could Death Reverence be related to this?"
Wang Wei frowned. There was no connection between the two, and even his intuition failed to hint at something. But, he would not ignore such an idea even if it may be a manifestation of his paranoia.
"There is no connection with Death Reverence and Suiji’s condition, but for the sake of survival, let’s assume the worst-case scenario. What would that entail?" Wang Wei thought. And as soon as he asked this question, he had an answer.
"Death Reverence is either responsible for her situation or he’s working with her. The latter is more likely, but either result will be catastrophic for me," he concluded. If these two potent forces began working together, they could cause terrible damage to the expedition. And in that scenario, Wang Wei’s Time Nexus will truly be a nightmare. If it’s the first scenario, then Death Reverence is a much greater threat than anyone could have anticipated.
"I need to hurry," Wang Wei thought. In his current state, there was nothing he could do if his assumptions became the truth. So, the best thing he can do right now is heal his damaged Saint Foundation before focusing on those two.
With a thought, the pill flew into his hand, and Wang Wei swallowed it after one last check for danger. A potent medicinal energy rushed into his first foundation, instantly repairing the damage at an alarming rate. Wang Wei focused on the process, using this opportunity to truly experience the power and effect of this foundation.
During this process, Wang Wei became enlightened on the Path of Perfection. He always believed Grand Dao had banned this path because of the actions of the Genesis Lifeform [Perfection], but it wasn’t entirely because of that. The Path of Perfect is indeed a path of transcendence, and it matches well with the Dao of Heaven, but what lies at the end of this path is why the Grand Dao turned it into a taboo.
Once someone becomes a Grand Dao Saint with the Path of Perfection, they have only a few outcomes. First, they become a cold, calculating machine similar to Grand Dao. Human emotions and desires make them imperfect, and no being who claims to be perfect will have such a significant flaw.
Unfortunately, machines are cold and logical; they only focus on achieving whatever task they were programmed to. Grand Dao wishes to cultivate a proper True Transcendent who can benefit the universe, but also one with enough emotion and gratitude to not seek revenge and maybe even look at the world with fondness. Observer and the Bi Clan Ancestor both failed in that category, and after learning its lesson, Grand Dao has become even harsher in its methods.
The second outcome of the Perfection Path is a cleaner. As a perfect being, how could they allow the world to be imperfect? With that mindset, the people at the end of this path will only follow in [Perfection]’s footsteps and try to perfect the world. And Heaven forbid something were to happen to force these people to question their perfection. The madness that would arise from questioning their existence — questioning their Dao — is scary just to think about. The war that ended the Genesis Age was catastrophic enough, and Grand Dao will not allow it to repeat itself.
"Xun Junyao, is this your destiny?" Wang Wei muttered as he opened his eyes. Banning the Path of Perfection and labeling it a taboo is not the proper way to deal with this situation. That’s evident in how many people are obsessed with studying perfection.
However, if there were someone who could become a Grand Dao Saint with the Imperfect-Perfect Path, showing the world how the true Perfection Dao should be cultivated, then the situation would improve. Perfection may no longer be taboo as long as people don’t insist on cultivating True Perfection.
