Chapter 2098: A Gentleman
Grey and Cassian were the last to leave the manor. By the time they left the manor and arrived at the city wall, the general was just rounding up his speech.
Grey looked at the thousands of riled up soldiers and then at the black swarm approaching them. His eyes turned cold at the thought of the soldiers who would not be able to return to their families no matter what the result of this battle turned out to be. The only thing he could do to minimize the death was to make sure they killed off the two Peak Sovereign Gnomes.
The thought of trying to assassinate either of the two Peak Sovereigns crossed his mind during his cultivation time at the manor, but he decided against it as there was a possibility of him failing and the army suffering the consequences if the Gnomes were provoked to attack sooner. At least now they were able to get more help compared to two days ago.
General Robert led the group forward with Grey, the three Ninth stage Sovereigns, and thousands of Elementalists behind him.
The two armies slowly approached each other before stopping when there was just one kilometer between them.
Grey glanced at the two Peak Sovereigns who were still dressed in their purple and emerald green attires like two days ago, and beside the two were ten Ninth stage Sovereigns. Of the ten Ninth stage Sovereigns, there was a particular one that caught his attention. This Gnome was the only lady among them and she was dressed in blood red, with long red hair that stretched all the way to her feet.
The lady Gnome locked eyes with Grey and she licked her red lips in a seductive manner before giggling.
Grey did not expect the lady to sense his hidden gaze, but he did not think much of it and moved to the next person beside her. None of the other Ninth stage Sovereigns gave Grey the feeling the lady Gnome gave him, this was the reason his gaze trailed on her body longer than the rest.
’Interesting.’
"Robert, is this all you are able to come up with?" The Peak Sovereign Gnome dressed in purple asked in a mocking tone.
"Surrender your lives and save all our time." The second Peak Sovereign Gnome suggested.
"We’ve been fighting each other for years now, Rikard, do you think I’m one who will surrender without a fight?" General Robert was unperturbed by the words of the duo.
The Gnome dressed in purple, who General Robert referred to as Rikard chuckled, "This is why I pleaded with the commander to let me keep your body after we’ve razed this place to the ground."
"Rikard, don’t forget your promise once he’s dead." The other Gnome said.
Rikard took a step forward, "Worry not, Wilmot, I’ve always been a Gnome of my word."
The Gnome dressed in green called Wilmot laughed heartily, "Haha, of course, of course."
"We will deal with him as soon as we can." Rikard waited until getting the attention of the ten Ninth stage Sovereigns and pointed at Grey, "Whoever kills that human will be rewarded. Remember to leave his corpse intact."
"Rikard, have you forgotten the boy is mine?" Wilmot’s expression was cold as he realized Rikard was trying to keep all the good stuff for himself.
"He’s yours, I’m only reminding them so they know he’s not to be trifled with." Rikard replied with a casual expression.
While the two Gnomes conversed, Grey leaned closer to General Robert.
"How long will you last against them?"
"Ten minutes max." General Robert replied after a short silence, he asked right after, "How long will you need against them?"
"Since I have to keep that other ability away from them, then I’ll need a little more than that." Grey replied after some thoughts.
"I can’t hold them off for that long, you’ll need to look for an opportunity to strike within that time." General Robert originally wanted Grey to first help deal with Rikard’s new partner, but when he saw the number difference in Ninth stage Sovereigns, he decided to switch the plan to him holding off the duo while Grey took out the Ninth stage Sovereigns. However, after hearing Grey’s words, he recalled that the reason Grey was able to kill that Necromancer in a matter of seconds was due to him using his special ability. Since they had to keep that for the surprise attack against Rikard and his companion, then Grey would not be able to use that ability against the Ninth stage Sovereign Gnomes.
"Hmm, why don’t we try taking them out from the getgo?"
"If we fail, they might be able to escape with the help of the Ninth stage Sovereigns, and your identity would have been exposed then, so dealing with them will be a little difficult even if those two are injured."
Grey dropped his head when he heard this. As much as he did not want to admit it, he knew it was best for them to take extra precautions. If both Rikard and Wilmot were not killed from the attack, then with the number of Ninth stage Sovereigns the Gnomes had, they would be able to retreat and even retaliate.
"We’ll do as you say. Remember not to go too far." Grey agreed with General Robert. Just as General Robert was about to leave to face off against the two Peak Sovereign Gnomes, Grey sent him a voice transmission.
’Crush this once you’ve created an opportunity, I’ll appear there.’ Grey passed a bead to General Robert as he shook him.
General Robert kept the bead without anyone seeing it. He did not know why Grey was being secretive with this, but he did not doubt Grey.
Seeing General Robert leave his troop, Rikard and Wilmot did the same, chasing after the latter.
The ten Ninth stage Sovereigns did not make a move, only staring at Grey and the others in contempt. From their eyes, it was clear that they did not think much of the humans before them.
The lady Gnome took a step forward and spoke in a sweet almost angelic voice, "I’ve set my eyes on the masked man, you guys should share the other three amongst yourselves."
Saying this, the lady Gnome flew in Grey’s direction, not worried the humans would attack her.
"You’re different from them. Since I can’t have you as mine, it’s only fitting that I am the one to kill you." The lady Gnome stood in front of Grey as she declared.
A strange expression appeared on the faces of the brothers Garth and Tate when they heard the words of the lady Gnome. If one did not know what was happening, they would think the lady Gnome had unrequited love towards Grey.
Grey did not react to the lady Gnome’s words as he did not read any other meaning to it. His gaze remained cold as he motioned for the lady Gnome to lead the way to where they would have their battle.
The lady Gnome touched her lips as she giggled, "Such a gentleman, isn’t that what you humans say?"
The lady Gnome did not expect an answer from Grey as she led him away from the battle that was about to start.
Garth, Tate, and Cassian looked at each other before staring at the Ninth stage Sovereigns on the enemy side. They gripped their weapons before charging forward. There was nothing to say anymore, now all that was left to do was fight and pray Grey and the General succeed.
Some distance from the place where both armies met, Grey and the lady Gnome stood opposite each other mid-air.
The lady Gnome could tell Grey was not interested in having a conversation with her, so she did not even bother to speak, with a wave of her hand, raging flames shot at Grey.
This was not Grey’s first battle, with a steady step, a large wave of water rose and swallowed the raging flames.
The duo did not continue probing each other as they attacked with ferocity.
The lady Gnome’s mastery of the fire element was immaculate. She controlled a snake made from flames, dodging each of Grey’s attacks as it reached his front. It opened its mouth and swallowed Grey’s figure.
The fire snake did not move more than a few meters from where it swallowed Grey when a bright light shone from its stomach before exploding.
Grey appeared in the same spot he previously stood with one hand in front of him. The lady Gnome snickered and sent out another attack.
The attack was easily evaded by Grey, but he was blocked by another attack coming from his back.
’Huh?’ Grey did not expect another attack to come from behind him.
’She’s also a Space Elementalist.’ Grey sucked in a deep breath at the discovery. Now he understood why he felt this lady Gnome was different from the others.
