Chapter 2163: Two Battlefields (bonus Chapter)
Grey and Elder Voss shot into the sky just as the two Peak Sovereign Necromancers turned into streaks of light and tried to flee in opposite directions.
"They’re running!" Elder Voss shouted.
The duo needed no further words. Elder Voss flew toward the Mayor, while Grey shot after Elder Harrington without hesitation.
The Peak Sovereign Necromancer left the city limits within a single second. At full speed, a Peak Sovereign could cover several kilometers in the blink of an eye, turning into little more than a blur of darkness against the night sky.
Grey combined his space element with wind, light, and lightning, his figure flickering repeatedly as he blitzed past Elder Harrington, who was still chasing from behind.
When Elder Harrington saw Grey overtake him so easily, he was briefly amazed by the young man’s speed. Remembering that Grey was a rare Space Elementalist, however, he quickly accepted it as normal despite the clear difference in cultivation realm.
The fleeing Necromancer felt no such calm. He only wanted to escape as quickly as possible. If Grey managed to delay him even for a moment, Elder Harrington would catch up and any chance of fleeing would disappear completely.
Grey’s figure flickered several more times through the clouds before he appeared directly ahead of the Necromancer, blocking his path with cold eyes.
He gave the man no time to adjust or change direction. Blue flames and crackling lightning erupted around his body as he launched a powerful combined strike straight at the Peak Sovereign’s chest. The Necromancer raised a dense, multi-layered barrier of darkness just in time to block the attack. The impact still forced him to slow down significantly. That brief pause was all Elder Harrington needed. He arrived a split second later, water and ice elemental energy surging around him like a raging storm as he joined the assault without hesitation.
The Peak Sovereign Necromancer’s expression turned grim. Facing two opponents at once, one of them the infamous Grey Dawson, sharply increased the pressure on him. He defended desperately, darkness swirling in thick, corrosive layers around his body, but every exchange forced him further onto the back foot.
Grey and Elder Harrington pressed the attack without mercy. Grey’s blue flames and lightning crashed against the darkness barrier from the front in continuous waves, while Elder Harrington’s ice techniques restricted the Necromancer’s movement from the flanks and rear. Whenever the Peak Sovereign tried to create distance by shooting backward through the clouds, Grey used short-range spatial teleportations to close the gap instantly, appearing at his side or behind him with another heavy strike. A palm strike coated in condensed earth and roaring fire forced the Necromancer to block with both arms, the collision sending a shockwave through the surrounding clouds. That opening allowed Elder Harrington to send a piercing spear of ice that grazed the man’s side and drew a thin line of blood.
The Necromancer snarled in frustration and unleashed a wide, violent wave of corrosive darkness, trying to push both of them back at once. Grey met the wave head-on with a thick curtain of blue flames that burned through large portions of the darkness, while Elder Harrington froze entire sections of it solid and shattered them with precise strikes. The continuous, coordinated pressure left the Peak Sovereign with almost no chance to launch a proper counterattack. His aura began to show clear signs of strain under the relentless assault, and the darkness around him flickered unevenly.
Grey pressed even harder. He mixed wind elemental energy into his movements, increasing his already terrifying speed, and landed several glancing blows that cracked the outer layers of the Necromancer’s defenses. Elder Harrington followed each of Grey’s attacks with restricting ice chains and water whips that tried to bind the man’s limbs. The Peak Sovereign was forced to continuously burn large amounts of essence just to keep himself from being completely suppressed.
Far away, on the other side of the sky, Elder Voss had already caught up with the Mayor, who had successfully stopped the second Peak Sovereign from fleeing too far from the city. Flames exploded from her body in a brilliant display as she cut off the remaining escape routes with walls of fire. The Mayor’s eyes lit up with clear approval when he saw her arrive.
"Good timing," he said, his voice steady despite the ongoing battle.
Together they pressed the attack immediately. The Mayor’s heavy earth and fire techniques slammed into the Necromancer from the front with crushing force, while Elder Voss’s relentless flames attacked from the side and above, leaving the Peak Sovereign little room to maneuver. The man tried to break away several times with bursts of darkness, but the two elders coordinated well and kept him firmly trapped between their overlapping fields of attack. Explosions of fire, earth, and darkness lit up that section of the sky in continuous flashes.
High in the clouds, hundreds of kilometers apart, the two separate battles intensified with every passing second. The earlier confidence of the Peak Sovereign Necromancers had completely vanished. What they had once considered a winning fight to protect their headquarters had turned into a desperate struggle where even survival was no longer guaranteed. Both found it hard to believe that a single Ninth-stage human could have caused such a complete and rapid reversal of the entire situation.
On Grey and Elder Harrington’s side, the pressure continued to mount. The Peak Sovereign Necromancer’s movements grew more frantic as he blocked another combined assault. Blood trickled from a shallow cut on his arm where one of Grey’s lightning-enhanced strikes had broken through. Elder Harrington’s ice had already left several freezing marks across the man’s legs and torso, slowing him down further.
Meanwhile, on the Mayor and Elder Voss’s side, the pressure remained high but still manageable with their numerical advantage. The Necromancer fighting them continued to defend while occasionally glancing around in search of Grey. When he finally confirmed that Grey had gone after his companion instead of coming for him, his eyes turned cold and decisive.
Without further hesitation, he brought out his puppet.
The aura of a second Peak Sovereign suddenly erupted across that battlefield like a tidal wave. The expressions of both the Mayor and Elder Voss hardened at once as the powerful new presence locked onto them. The numerical advantage they had relied on had just disappeared in an instant.
