Chapter 2598: Trap

Chapter 2598: Trap

With a single message, all of Sam’s friends arrived.

Sam looked at the contract and his smile only grew wider.

"I am agreeing to a dueling contract on your behalf. Go ahead and fight."

They all just nodded without much change in their expressions. Sam looked at Watcher and said.

"So, shall we decide on the wager right away?"

"Sure. I will go first." Watcher nodded and prepared himself. He thought Sam would interrupt him, but Sam was just waiting for him to speak.

"For each duel we win, We need you to surrender a snake. That’s six snakes. For the remaining, I need you to surrender the blueprints of all the machines, mechanisms and defenses you set up for the Hastin village."

"You really expect me to give all that up?"

"Except for the bone snake, the remaining things that I am asking for, are just knowledge. Your personal knowledge. It is well within the rules to ask for it."

"If you say so. Then can I give you my terms now, right?"

"Yes."

"I need territory."

"Territory? As I said before, it should within my means. I don’t control any territory."

"True. But the planet has a lot of it.

From what I see, you have quite a few people under your command here. For every duel my friends win, I need you to send a troop out into a territory that I designated to fight the beasts, capture them and conquer the territory before surrendering it to me.

I will even provide some very special trinkets that they can use in the conquest to make things easier.

And if you lose all the duels, I need you to take up arms and do my bidding as well."

Watcher immediately shook his head and denied it.

"No, you can’t make us attack our own territories. Even if you make us attack other factions, in this war, all factions made an alliance. You can’t make us attack our own troops. You can only order us a retreat at best."

"No, I am not going to ask you to attack the factions. I need you guys to open up the new territory completely."

"You are trying to indirectly kill us. You are reducing the forces here and are putting us up against the beasts." Watcher said out loud.

"And?" Sam asked.

"Such a low blow."

"You are the one to talk."

Sam wrote the terms, signed the contract and threw it at Watcher. He then turned around and walked back to the Hastin village. With his back clearly facing the enemy, without a worry in the world.

Watcher felt kinda insulted by the action.

Even though he doesn’t know why. The fact that Sam is not even considering him a threat... it hurt his pride a little bit.

*SNAP* *SNAP*

Philip snapped his finger, getting Watcher’s attention.

"I think according to the contract, you guys get to pick the arena as well. So, shall we get moving on this shit? I got things to do."

"Yeah, let’s finish this fast."

Watt also pitched in.

Watcher looked at them and his frown deepened.

"You guys are too cocky for your own good."

He then used transference tokens to send them to different arenas. But not before he gave them a final warning.

"I warn you guys. Sam didn’t read the contracts properly. You might want to do it before you go. Or you would die without knowing what hit you."

Philip almost laughed out loud.

He walked past Walker and looked at the twenty odd guys in front of him.

"I don’t know what you know about us. But playing with contracts, hitting with hidden conditions... we or rather my friend is the pioneer of this stuff. You can’t even imagine what kind of people we took down with shit like this.

And you think you can fool him?

Your planet is indeed too isolated. Your optimism almost looks cute to me."

"Be cocky as much as you want. That idiot didn’t even read the contract for more than a minute. You guys are fucked."

"Yeah, yeah. Let’s just get going.

I want this guy. This guy’s looking at us the wrong way since the start."

Saber Monarch brushed past both of them and looked at an old man who is glaring at the whole gang.

Watcher snorted at the impudence of these people and started assigning the special arenas they prepared for them.

All the arenas specially designed from the blueprints Sam provided through the exchange centers.

Philip was the first to go. He was transported into the arena through the transference token and he was with his opponent.

Another old man, who probably spent three times the years in Pretranscendent realm than Philip has even lived.

"I am sorry to do this to you." The old man said with his eyes closed.

Philip just smiled. He didn’t bother with the old man’s conscience.

But the old man still had that melancholic expression as he activated the formation. Philip felt an immediate suppression on his body. The old man had a glowing token attached on his chest that’s repeling the suppression of the formation.

The suppression effect only affected Philip and no one else.

He conjured up a flame. It was really hard to do so. He had to use four times the usual energy to make the flame half the size.

"You guys couldn’t even follow the blueprint properly?" Philip said looking at the old man with a hint of disdain.

"The suppression is not as effective as it should be." Philip continued.

The old man looked at him speechlessly. Philip sighed and said...

"You do the next step of the trap. We don’t want to waste any more time."

The oldman gritted his teeth, closed his eyes and spoke.

"I now invoke the reinforcement clause.

I want to summon my reinforcements as per the contract, since I used this clause first. You cannot call for any of your reinforcements."

"Alright, go ahead." Philip didn’t even bother arguing and just let him do what he wanted. The next moment, the formation is filled with around sixty people. All of them wearing the tokens to relieve the suppression. While Philip is facing them all alone.
