Chapter 2604: Counter

They are running, running and running. But they couldn’t find the way out. They turned around and run backwards, but still, the situation is the same.

The bamboo forest suddenly turned... endless.

Parna who is up in the air, suddenly felt sensory overload as she tried to comprehend what’s happening in the forest.

She tried to focus her attention, cleared her mind to make sure she can understand what the situation is. But at that moment, another whisper came...

"Why are you trying so hard? If you are feeling bored, I could send someone to accompany you."

The whisper in Sam’s voice. She was tempted to destroy the whole forest right away.

Her energy riled up.

"I thought you were a great general or something. Why are you getting riled up so much?"

A leisurely feminine voice stopped Parna from doing what she wanted to do. Miko stood in the air above Parna, with a sword in her hands.

"You are a middle stage?" Parna asked with a frown and her body tightened. Her subordinates who are also at the initial stage got ready and came forward to have her back.

"At least you don’t have some cowardly idiots for subordinates. But right now, you better stop probing so much into the forest.

You are pissing me off."

Parna took a deep breath and said.

"It is not within the contract that I cannot give verbal suggestions to the participants. You on the other hand cannot attack me, unless I attack you first."

"True. But there is no clause in the contract that states that I cannot interfere with your interference without actually harming you or the participants in there.

So, good luck with that."

And Miko unleashed her sword aura. It spread around like a curtain enveloping the whole bamboo forest.

She stood in the air with her arms crossed, with utmost nonchalance one could possess.

As Parna tried to spread her consciousness into the forest, she felt a sharp pain in her soul. It hurt her head.

Miko had a smirk on her face.

Parna even contemplated just saying fuck it and picking a fight. But she know she cannot do it.

"You guys better stay put while we are being nice. The fact that we even gave you a chance to fight like this is a blessing.

It’s a lot better than just killing you guys randomly. Don’t stretch your freaking luck."

Miko didn’t hold back with her words and gave it to Parna.

The proud General didn’t even know how to respond. She resigned to her fate and only hoped that the participants are not stupid enough.

Meanwhile, Sam is having fun with the bamboo forest.

For the next twenty minutes, every candidate tried their best to run out of there. They didn’t even care about the bone dome anymore and just ran in random directions. But they couldn’t find a way out.

Their senses are blurred and bothered. They don’t know where they would be attacked from.

As if things are not troublesome enough, they started seeing the bamboos change. They started extracting energy from the ground. At least that’s what it looked like. The surface of the bamboos grew darker.

Shadow energy permeated into the air. The corrosive energy made even breathing hurt them. They felt dizzy, confused, most importantly useless.

They couldn’t figure out a way to get out.

Then as the shadow energy increased to the maximum, several patterns appeared on the surface of the bamboos.

At several spots within the patterns, it glowed with various colors, or rather with various elements. And then....

*BOOM* *BOOM* *BOOM*

Everyone was attacked.

Each bamboo had around seven to ten glowing spots. And each spot individually is of a different attack. But that’s not even the worst part, whenever they threw an attack at the bamboo to destroy it, they were greeted with an additional attack.

Each person is surrounded by at least a dozen bamboos at any given instance.

No matter where they ran, they only ended up being targeted by different bamboos that had different attacks.

Sam’s friends were looking at the whole situation from the only intact edge of the bamboo forest.

"Do you even think we need to make a move on them? It looks like they would be long dead before they could even reach us."

Watt said to Philip, asking for his insight.

"Don’t worry about it, we would have to intervene in between. From what I saw in the blueprints, this is not the final phase of the bamboo forest defense. It would involve us."

"I hope its soon. I am itching." Saber Monarch said as he kept fiddling with his weapon.

"I wonder how this even works?" Sia asked out loud and Philip began to explain.

"Its actually pretty simple in principle. These bamboo are weapon grade materials even in their rawest form. So, Sam converted all of them into his formation nodes.

Multi-purpose formation nodes I must add.

So, at any given moment, he can use the crystal table to activate any number of bamboo as his nodes.

That’s the core of it.

One of the inscription arrays he laid on each bamboo is a version of resonance system he developed. They absorb the attack and a different bamboo pole linked to it, would release that attack, with energy resonance.

So, no matter how many attacks they throw, all of them could be redirected to a different location within the forest.

And by activating multiple bamboo at the same time, he is creating spatial illusion, making sure that none of these people can escape the forest.

The energy source is the shadow portal, which he is obsessed with in the recent days. And the rest are just attack mechanisms."

"What part of it is it fucking simple?" Sia grumbled.

"As I said, its simple in principle. But extremely hard in execution. I am actually surprised, he managed to guide the artisans of Hastin to pull it off, without being completely handson himself." Philip replied.

"Okay guys, enough talk.

We are entering. Get ready to kick some high level ass."
