Chapter 3211: The Lone Advantage
Date: Unspecified
Time: Unspecified
Location: Myriad Realms, Azorheim, Temporal Cave Valley, Temporal Cave No. ES3030
Arriving back in the familiar cave, I immediately checked my soul gem. Sensing it back in my body, I felt whole. Soon, after I accessed the soul energy and rule powers to activate my skills and runes, I let out a long, deep sigh, feeling back in control again.
For most of my life, I didn’t have them, and yet, without them, my life felt incomplete and not worth living. Like the saying goes, it’s easy to adjust to going from poor to rich, but not the other way around.
Even though these prowess have only been with me for a small part of my life, they were a huge part of me. I couldn’t bring myself to think of a life without them.
Crazy, I know.
But if I was going to save the cosmos, I was going to need more of these prowess.
Speaking of which, I had a sudden urge to produce a dozen calamity fruits and feed them to DreDre, curing her of her bloodline curse. However, I shook my head, deciding against that urge. There were two reasons for that:
i) No matter how many calamity fruits I fed DreDre, they would only decrease the symptoms and not cure the disease. As the Barred Beings had cursed the Primordial Pixie bloodline, as long as the bloodline of a Primordial Pixie was flowing through DreDre, she could never truly get rid of the curse, even with my calamity fruits. All they would do was decrease her symptoms for a period of time. She would have to constantly keep taking my calamity fruits.
ii) I didn’t want to alert the Barred Beings. Since they dared to make a move against the Primordial Pixies, I was sure they might have assurances in place to ensure their curse on the Primordial Pixie bloodline didn’t fail them. If I were to try relieving DreDre of the bloodline curse, even momentarily, and alerted the Barred Beings in the process, then I would be losing the only advantage I had over them right now.
Unless I had figured out a way to remove whatever curse the Barred Beings had used on the Primordial Pixies’ bloodline, I didn’t plan on compromising the advantage I had in this entire situation: the fact that the Barred Beings had no idea that there was someone out in the Myriad Realms who not only knew what they were doing but was also planning to put an end to their madness.
If they were to realise my existence and my plans, then my mission to save the cosmos would be ten times, no, scratch that, a hundred times harder than it already was. After all, the Barred Realm was a realm about the peak of the Ruler class. I was still struggling against Ruler-class beings. How was I supposed to contend against those in the Barred Realm? Therefore, my best move was to bide my time while investigating the Primordial Pixie bloodline curse and the method to lift it.
Yes, I hadn’t forgotten that I had less than a century to achieve it. I said less than a century to leave room for the unexpected. It wasn’t that I doubted BoBo’s calculations; I was being practical. After all, it was the fate of the entire cosmos we were talking about here.
Curing DreDre of the curse would have to wait for now. However, the problem was that she was now able to summon and wield the ’Breath of Erosion’ and fly between the plane of the living and the plane of the dead. I had three reasons for worrying about this.
i) How come the weakening of the curse on DreDre didn’t alert the Barred Beings? Was it because the Barred Beings hadn’t put any failsafe in place or because the bloodline curse in DreDre hadn’t weakened enough?
I was leaning towards the latter rather than the former.
Why?
Because I didn’t believe beings smart enough to trick and curse the Primordial Pixie bloodline, enslaving them for several millennia, would fail to consider the consequences of the curse failing them at a certain point in time.
ii) I was worried about the Barred Beings learning about the pixie capable of summoning and wielding the ’Breath of Erosion’ and flying between the plane of the living and the plane of the dead through word of mouth. It could be either DreDre’s pixie tribe members, whom DreDre had bragged to about her new prowess without knowing that she had been born with that ability but that the curse on her bloodline had deprived her of it for millennia, or the beings that I had used DreDre against.
So far, the only being who knew about DreDre’s death-plane-related abilities and hadn’t died or become my calamity gem was Peyote. But he had sworn loyalty to me, calling the Origin Source to bear witness. So, unless he was suicidal, he wouldn’t knowingly do anything to harm me.
iii) Librarian Jr. Zaltan coming or calling to check on DreDre.
When he handed me DreDre, he said he wanted to see if the Pixies could come out of their shells and grow into stronger beings capable of protecting themselves, capable of living a life beyond that of a book guide.
I don’t know how many of those words he meant, but one thing was certain: he wasn’t aware of the conspiracy involving the Primordial Pixies orchestrated by the Librarian and other Barred Beings.
This also meant that if he were to learn about DreDre’s new abilities, he would not only not keep it a secret from Librarian and his forces, but also use it to try and free the Pixies from the confines of the Infinity Library so they could live a normal life like the rest of us. That was the most likely outcomes I could think of if his love for them and words about empowering the Pixies he spoke of were true.
