Chapter 2742: Powerless

Chapter 2742: Chapter 2742: Powerless

Yu Qi quickly composed herself and continued breaking the heavy chains wrapped around Tang Qin Hao’s ankles as though absolutely nothing out of the ordinary had occurred.

Long Hui naturally caught Tang Qin Hao’s low whisper as well. He glanced sideways at the captive surgeon with a look of mild surprise. Even though Yu Qi had completely altered her facial structure and appearance, Tang Qin Hao had still managed to intuitively recognise her in a matter of seconds. How had he known?

"Can you stand?" Yu Qi asked calmly, her voice carefully even.

The familiar, melodic cadence of that voice immediately confirmed Tang Qin Hao’s wild suspicion. His intense gaze locked onto Yu Qi once again, refusing to let her look away.

"You..." Tang Qin Hao began, his voice raspy as he clearly wanted to ask a thousand burning questions about how she was here.

However, Long Hui smoothly interrupted him before he could continue his sentence. "We can’t afford to stay in this location any longer. If we waste any more precious time talking, more hostile reinforcements might arrive on site."

Tang Qin Hao understood the tactical reality of the situation immediately. Whatever burning questions he had regarding her identity and appearance could easily wait until they had successfully escaped from this godforsaken hole. He took a deep, stabilising breath and forced his stubborn body to stand up.

However, the exact millisecond his feet pressed flat against the floor, all the residual strength seemed to drain entirely from his thighs. His knees buckled instantly beneath his weight.

Before he could collapse back onto the hard ground, Yu Qi and Long Hui reacted at the exact same time with military precision, each firmly grabbing one of his arms to support his heavy weight.

"I... I am sorry." Tang Qin Hao frowned slightly, his pride stinging as he tried and failed to gather strength back into his limbs. "I don’t know what’s happening. My legs suddenly feel completely powerless."

"It is definitely the effects of the chemical drug they injected into your body earlier." Yu Qi replied through clenched teeth, her voice growing colder and more lethal with every syllable she uttered.

’That absolute bitch!’ Yu Qi silently cursed Angelica Lee with a venom she rarely felt.

Targeting her directly was one thing. She could handle any plot thrown her way. But daring to lay a hand on her innocent family members, using weapons and chains on her brother... That was a line she would never, ever forgive. No matter the cost, no matter the consequences, Angelica Lee would pay for today’s actions with her life.

Long Hui offered to carry Tang Qin Hao on his back to expedite their escape. Having no other choice under the current circumstances, Tang Qin Hao accepted the practical offer and allowed Long Hui to carry him. With their plan moving smoothly, the three of them quickly and silently made their way out of the damp basement.

Once they reached the ground floor, Tang Qin Hao’s analytical gaze immediately landed on the middle-aged man who had spearheaded his abduction earlier that afternoon. The man was currently lying completely motionless on the floorboards, his entire body strangely limp and deflated.

For a brief, passing moment, Tang Qin Hao wondered if the mysterious couple had actually killed him in cold blood. However, that medical assessment was quickly dismissed when he saw the middle-aged man painfully and slowly roll his head toward them.

"Please... Please give me the antidote..." The middle-aged man begged weakly, his dry voice trembling with absolute terror.

Hearing his desperate, pathetic plea, Yu Qi suddenly came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the foyer. A small flicker of hope instantly ignited in the middle-aged man’s eyes. He naively thought the woman had changed her mind at the last second and was finally willing to spare him by handing over the cure.

Unfortunately for him, he was destined to be profoundly disappointed.

Yu Qi slowly turned around on her heel and walked back toward his paralysed form. She crouched down gracefully beside him before leaning directly close to his ear, her presence suffocating.

"You should be profoundly grateful that I am even leaving you with your life." Yu Qi whispered, her voice dripping with absolute ice. "Otherwise, the very moment you dared to lay your eyes on me... You would have already been standing before King Yama."

Her voice was incredibly soft. Calm. Yet every single syllable sounded like the hiss of a devil crawling directly into his ears.

The middle-aged man’s entire body trembled violently despite his paralysis. For the first time in many years of operating in the underworld, genuine, paralysing fear filled his heart. Yu Qi slowly straightened herself up and walked away without offering him another single glance, following closely after Long Hui and Tang Qin Hao.

When they finally stepped outside the front door of the house, Tang Qin Hao was stunned once again by the sheer scale of the devastation. The entire courtyard was littered with black-suited elite guards lying sprawled across the dirt.

Some clutched their stomachs in agony, others held their fractured legs, and several rolled back and forth while groaning miserably in pure pain. Not a single one of them was physically capable of standing up.

Tang Qin Hao silently observed the tragic scene from Long Hui’s back. Just... what exactly had these two done to an entire security detail while rescuing him?

"Wait here for a moment." Yu Qi said, breaking his train of thought. "I will go get the car."

Tang Qin Hao watched the woman walk calmly toward the dense trees at the back of the property. His brows furrowed slightly in confusion.
