“There’s one more thing I’d like to talk about regarding the environment you’ve just brought up. It’s indeed true that there are many defences at the Passes, but we can also build some Wards around the chasm. That way, even when the great insectoids emerge, the power of the Wards can hold them up for a bit. By then, the three of us can go over to help out. We don’t have to be afraid of the great insectoids.”
Lu Ye was confident in his response. After all, he had considered the problems that Lin Yue brought up.
It wasn’t difficult to solve most of Lin Yue’s concerns. They just had to build some Teleportation Wards.
Lu Ye wasn’t the only one in the world who could set up Teleportation Wards. There were many Ward Cultivators in Jiu Zhou, especially those in the Divine Ocean Realm. Although it wasn’t easy for them to build Teleportation Wards, it wasn’t impossible to achieve.
The two sides at the front line had never collaborated to deploy some soldiers to the chasm because they couldn’t communicate effectively.
Not every Pass Leader had the audacity to go to the opposing Pass and discuss the matter with the other Pass Leader like Lu Ye.
Lu Ye felt that if the plan was successful, it would initiate a chain reaction. With the precedent of Surging Waves Lake Pass and Dark Moon Forest Pass collaborating to kill the enemies, the other Passes could do the same.
By then, the pressure facing those at the front line would be alleviated, and the different Zhou Watches could mobilise more people to deal with the problems in their respective territories. When the momentum of this snowball picked up, they could bring the situation under control, though they might not be able to solve the insectoid plague.
Lin Yue fell deep in thought.
Lu Ye didn’t wait for her to respond as it was apparent that she wouldn’t do so immediately. She had to discuss the matter with the Soul Clone before making a decision.
Since it was Lu Ye’s idea, he had to take the initiative to carry out the plan.
He rose to his feet and said, “Please consider my suggestion, Cultivator Lin. Regardless of what decision you make, I’ll go on to execute this plan. I’ve come here to inform you about it in the hope that you’ll help us out.”
He left the place upon finishing his words.
Lin Yue couldn’t make a decision. Naturally, Li Taibai was on Lu Ye’s side, so he coaxed her by saying, “I think Lu Yi Ye is frank and honest. He doesn’t seem to have any vested interests in bringing up such a suggestion. If the plan is successful, it’ll be beneficial to all the soldiers and both of us.”
Lin Yue replied, “I understand that, but there has never been a precedent regarding this matter.”
Li Taibai said, “There’ll be a precedent after you do it, Senior Sister. If you’re hesitant, we’ll just have to wait and see if Lu Yi Ye is all talk and no action. If he truly executes his plan, it won’t be too late for us to join him by then.”
Lin Yue replied in agreement, “That’s a good idea.” Deep within, she found it hard to believe that Lu Ye and Li Taibai were in the same Minor Realm now. Both of them were Third-Order Divine Ocean Realm Masters.
When Li Taibai became a Third-Order Master, she thought he was finally more powerful than Lu Ye. Much to her surprise, the two of them could increase their powers at the same speed.
A moment later, Lu Ye gathered all the soldiers at Surging Waves Lake Pass. There were only a small number of soldiers at the Pass. Just like Dark Moon Forest Pass, they only had around 300 people. There were significantly more people in the past, but most of them had been transferred to other places, so only these soldiers were left.
After all, this place was located on the front line between the two sides. Even if it was occupied by insectoids, nothing much would be affected. It was unlike the inner part of Bing Zhou where many commoners lived in cities, which had to be protected by cultivators.
It had been a few months since Lu Ye came to this Pass, but it was the first time he gathered all the soldiers. They had no idea what was going on, but they had a feeling that Lu Ye was about to do something major, so they were expectant.
In the central drill ground, Lu Ye swept a glance over them. Although he was young, he was powerful and authoritative.
Even though he was hastily appointed to be the Pass Leader, these more than 300 soldiers respected him. After all, he played a key role during the war several months ago, and they had gotten along with him well during this period. The fact that he gave some resources as compensation to the family members of the deceased soldiers was unprecedented, and they loved him for that.
Cultivators had to always prioritise their future. However, many people had no more potential left, and there was no longer room for growth in power. Naturally, they were concerned about their family members at that point. In the past, they were restrained when fighting the insectoids because they were worried they would be killed and no one would support their families. But now, they had become bolder because even if they lost their lives during the war, a considerable amount of resources would be given to their family members.
Yu Huang stepped forward and cupped his fists. “Sir, all 313 people of Surging Waves Lake Pass have gathered. Please tell us what we’re supposed to do!”
With his hands behind his back, Lu Ye nodded. “I’m planning to deploy some soldiers to the chasm that is 500 kilometres away to kill the insectoids, so I need all of you to work together. Yu Huang, choose 50 people who will stay here, and the rest will come with me.”
“Yes,” Yu Huang replied and flew into the air before sweeping a glance over them. “Is anyone willing to stay back?”
These soldiers laughed heartily, but none of them offered to stay.
Yu Huang understood what they were thinking. They were usually eager to go out there and kill the insectoids to earn battle points. Some people had intended to head to the chasm, but they wouldn’t dare to take the risk as they were weak. It was a rare chance that Lu Ye was willing to take them there, so they naturally wouldn’t miss it.
As such, Yu Huang chastised them by saying, “Can’t you hear what the Pass Leader has said? You’d better be more proactive, especially the weaker cultivators!”
A Cloud River Realm Master protested, “So what if we’re weaker? All of us grow our powers slowly. We want to follow the Pass Leader to kill the insectoids as well!”
Upon hearing that, the other Cloud River Realm Masters shouted in agreement.
This was giving Yu Huang a headache. He glowered at the first Cloud River Realm Master who had spoken. “We’ll draw lots, then. If you get the lot which requires you to stay, you have to oblige without complaints.”
All of them agreed to the suggestion.
Yu Huang then started preparing for it, and Lu Ye never urged them.
A moment later, Yu Huang was done with the preparation. He came over with a big jar and shouted, “All of you, line up and draw one lot. After you take it out, there’s no second chance.”
These soldiers divided themselves into two lines and stepped forward one by one.
Those who had to stay were naturally bitter, but they couldn’t blame anyone. On the other hand, those who could leave the Pass were elated.
When everything was done, Lu Ye beckoned to them and left the Pass. He was followed by many rays of light.
Whenever they came across some insectoids along the way, they would directly kill them.
It took them four hours to traverse across 500 kilometres because the Cloud River Realm Masters were much slower in flying.
When they arrived at the chasm, they formed groups and set up formations with the help of United as One Ward Nexuses before destroying the insectoids which crawled out of the chasm.
Lu Ye didn’t interfere. He went to a nearby place to look for a suitable spot to build a Teleportation Ward.
Before he departed, he had left behind a corresponding Teleportation Ward in the Sanctum of Providence of Surging Waves Lake Pass. If he built one here, the two Teleportation Wards would be connected. That way, even if something happened at the chasm, the soldiers could go back to Surging Waves Lake Pass through the Teleportation Ward.
Therefore, it was important for him to build a Teleportation Ward first.
The soldiers got into fights against the enemies as their Spiritual Powers fluctuated, which attracted even more insectoids to crawl out of the chasm.
While they were in intense battles, some nearby Thousand Demon Ridge cultivators were drawn to this place. They looked at what was going on from a distance and reported the incident back to Dark Moon Forest Pass.
Lin Yue was amazed when she received the news, thinking that Lu Ye was such a decisive person. No sooner had he informed her about his plan than he carried it out. It seemed that he was serious about executing the plan.
Then, she went to look for Li Taibai and told him what had happened.
The Soul Clone said, “If you’re worried, Senior Sister, why don’t I go over and have a look?”
Lin Yue shook her head. “You’ll stay here. I’ll go over and have a look.” She wasn’t worried that Lu Ye had lied to her. In this situation, he wouldn’t get any benefits by lying to her. It was just that she had to inspect the scene to find out if Lu Ye’s suggestion was even feasible. If it was, she naturally wouldn’t mind joining him. But if it wasn’t, she wouldn’t put the lives of her soldiers at risk.
A moment later, Lu Ye had just finished building the Teleportation Ward when he detected Lin Yue’s aura. She directly landed beside Lu Ye without worrying about anything. She glanced at the Teleportation Ward and said in amazement, “I’ve heard that you’re adept at the Way of Wards. You indeed live up to your name.”
As far as she was concerned, a Teleportation Ward was the most difficult to set up of all the Wards. That was because the core Void Glyph was complicated. Even Ward Cultivators in the Divine Ocean Realm might not be able to build Teleportation Wards, but Lu Ye could set up one in such a short time, which showed how skilful he was in this Way.
“Thanks for your compliment, Cultivator Lin.” Lu Ye smiled faintly. “I’m a little busy now, so I’ll talk to you later.”
Then, he told Yu Huang to get someone to keep an eye on the Teleportation Ward before he went to build some Wards and defences around the chasm.
Lin Yue followed him quietly. Seeing how busy he was, she would lend the cultivators of Surging Waves Lake Pass a helping hand from time to time to lessen their pressure.
After the Wards were successfully built, some cultivators were tasked with taking charge of each of them. With the help of these Wards, they faced less pressure when dealing with the insectoids.
When Lu Ye was finally done with work, he said, “Have you made a decision, Cultivator Lin? To be honest with you, given the power of Surging Waves Lake Pass, we’re able to keep an eye on the chasm, but we’re worried there might be some unforeseen circumstances. If more insectoids emerge, it’ll take a toll on our defences. As such, we need the help of your Pass. You’re an intelligent person, so I’m sure you understand that both parties have to work together to bring the situation under control. That’s for the good of the soldiers on both sides.”
Seeing how sincere he was, Lin Yue dipped her head. “I understand what you’re trying to say. Since you’re willing to do so much, we’re naturally willing to work with you. I’ll go back to Dark Moon Forest Pass and bring some people over.”
“That’s great.”
“But there’s one thing I don’t understand, Cultivator Lu. I hope you’ll clear my doubt.”
“Please go ahead, Cultivator Lin.”
“I can see that all of your soldiers can form formations to deal with the enemies. I don’t think it’s a coincidence. Have you relied on some external power?”
