Peasant Woman's Decreed Life as a Wife

Chapter 1671: 1668: Gratitude Gift

Chapter 1671: Chapter 1668: Gratitude Gift

Lady Li furrowed her brows and scolded, “Chun’er, don’t look around aimlessly. Sit down quickly. We are visiting; show some etiquette.”

Li Chun’er was displeased with the scolding, “Mother, Chu Ziluo saved me this time, we are friends. When visiting a friend’s house, there’s no need to be so formal.”

Lady Li was at a loss for words, although she knew her daughter was straightforward, she couldn’t help but feel an unprecedented sense of disdain for her daughter, perhaps because this was the Chu family.

“Enough, sit properly. It’s not just you young ones here,” Lady Li was mentally and physically exhausted, rarely opting to lecture her. The key was to stay quiet and not embarrass her.

Lady Li’s emotions were complex. She was happy her daughter was safe, but the thought of owing a debt of gratitude to the Chu family, having to visit personally and send a thank-you gift, seemed like showing weakness to Ye Muyu. How could she keep her distance from Ye Muyu afterward?

The thought of having to greet with a smile when meeting outside was displeasing to her. As a woman of a noble family, she was raised to be above others, and to her, no matter what, Ye Muyu was still a country woman.

Moreover, she feared the Old Madam’s intent, as the latter seemed to have notions of matchmaking her son with Miss Chu. Lady Li could understand these thoughts but did not agree.

But now, with this debt of saving grace, if the Chu family insisted on this marriage proposal.

Lady Li’s fingers couldn’t help but tug at the handkerchief tightly, pondering various strategies to counter this situation.

Noise came from outside the door.

The door curtain lifted, and maidservants filed in, with Ye Muyu bringing in Chu Ziluo.

Ye Muyu looked at Lady Li, her face showing no signs of discomfort, and still smiled gently, “Madam Li, Miss Li, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting.”

“Greetings, Madam.” Chu Ziluo followed behind, paying respects to Lady Li gracefully, with no lack of etiquette.

Lady Li smiled and asked with concern, “Chu Ziluo looks much better, have you felt unwell recently?”

Despite her complex feelings, she immediately donned the most appropriate smile when dealing with the matter at hand.

Chu Ziluo sat in the adjacent seat, exchanged a glance with Li Chun’er, and responded upon hearing the question, “No, thank you for your concern, Madam.”

“Well, that’s good to hear. Now that you’re well, Chun’er doesn’t make a fuss. She asked daily to come and see you; back then, the doctors said you needed rest. This child just liked to make a fuss, and now that you’re better, she couldn’t wait to visit.”

Ye Muyu chimed in, “Madam Li is too kind. Chu Ziluo is almost fully recovered now, nothing serious. I see the children seem to have something to talk about. Shall I let Ziluo take Miss Li to the side room for a chat?”

Li Chun’er, not waiting for Lady Li’s reply, quickly stood up and eagerly said, “Thank you, Madam.”

“Ziluo, come on, let’s go to the side room and have a chat. I have so much to tell you. Does your head still hurt?” Li Chun’er, acting very familiar, reached out to pull her along.

Chu Ziluo knew her mother wanted her to step aside, not having to face the elders, so she could relax a bit, and she did not refuse. She bowed to Lady Li before leaving with Li Chun’er.

Li Chun’er’s chattering voice could still be heard from outside the room.
