Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
From both ahead and the flanks came the fierce pounding of galloping hooves. The Jin army had split into two forces and was rapidly sealing off all routes of retreat.
They were left with only one path——
Break through the encirclement!
The battlefield was a place where plans could change in the blink of an eye. Even the most flawless strategy could collapse in the face of the unexpected. And now was one such moment.
The imperial army had already mobilized to its full extent; there were no spare troops left in the city. They could rely only on themselves!
But could just three people…. really break through a force of ten thousand?
Tang Yueshan, who had entered the army at the age of twelve and fought in countless campaigns over his life, had never before faced a battle as desperate as this. This wasn’t a case of two thousand versus twenty thousand, this was three against ten thousand.
Gu Jiao gripped her red-tasseled spear tightly. “We don’t need to destroy them, we just need to break through. As long as we make it into the city, they won’t be able to touch us.”
Those words might have sounded simple, but what lay ahead was destined to be a brutal and bloody fight!
The thunder of hooves drew closer, the air filled with a suffocating killing intent. The sun dipped behind the clouds, shrouding the sky in hues of grayish blue.
Xuanyuan Qi looked ahead at the charging wave of Jin cavalry and the dense mass of infantry looming behind. He spurred his horse forward a few steps, placing himself in front of Gu Jiao.
Gu Jiao had always been the type to lead from the front. Having someone suddenly take her place in such a dangerous position stunned her momentarily.
Xuanyuan Qi drew the long sword at his waist. The three-foot blade shimmered coldly in the twilight, gleaming like a sea serpent leaping from the waves, ravenous for blood and bone.
“Who goes there? Dismount at once and surrender——”
Before the cavalryman could finish his shout, Xuanyuan Qi charged forward, and with one clean strike, he lopped off the man’s head!
The attack came so swiftly and unexpectedly that the cavalrymen behind had no time to change course. Their horses trampled over the fallen head, crushing it underhoof, splattering brain matter across the ground.
Xuanyuan Qi wielded his blade with ruthless precision. Each strike was deadly and unrelenting. Like a thunderstorm unleashed, he carved out a path for Gu Jiao with sheer force.
“Count me in!” Tang Yueshan shouted, raising his arm to grab the large bow slung across his back. Drawing arrows from his quiver, he let loose three in quick succession, each one finding its mark without fail!
Gu Jiao seized the moment and charged forward, breaking through the enemy lines alongside the Black Wind King with relentless force.
The State of Jin’s cavalry was thrown into utter disarray, soldiers and horses scattering in all directions. Had all five hundred cavalrymen been concentrated here, perhaps it wouldn’t have been so easy to break through. But as luck would have it, they had split half their forces to flank via the official road, leaving a gap in their ranks.
The trio had no intention of lingering in battle.
As soon as they broke through the cavalry’s encirclement, they spurred their horses onward without pause, galloping straight toward Quyang City.
Compared to the two hundred or so cavalrymen behind them, the real obstacle lay ahead——over nine thousand soldiers of the State of Jin forming a near-impenetrable wall.
Xuanyuan Qi led the charge, galloping at the head of the group to blaze a trail forward, while Tang Yueshan and Gu Jiao flanked him on either side like wings. Together, they crashed into the dense mass of enemy troops with deadly momentum.
Just as Gu Jiao had said, their goal was not to defeat the army; they only needed to break through. If they made it past, they would consider it a victory.
"Form ranks!" General Di shouted sternly.
The highly disciplined troops of the State of Jin raised their shields and quickly formed tight, impenetrable walls of iron, row upon row, bracing for impact.
"Loose arrows!"
With General Di’s sharp command, the archers hidden behind the shields sprang up in unison, unleashing a deafening rain of lethal arrows aimed straight at the three riders!
Xuanyuan Qi tugged sharply on his reins, veering his horse and shifting his position to ride directly in front of Gu Jiao.
With a sweep of his long sword, he sliced down every arrow flying toward her, constructing an impenetrable barrier of steel and skill to shield her from harm.
Tang Yueshan also drew his sword and spun it with dazzling speed, forming a defensive flourish to deflect incoming attacks.
Xuanyuan Qi, brimming with a thunderous killing aura, reached the front line of the enemy’s formation. With his powerful internal force infused into every strike, a single blow from his sword shattered the Jin soldiers’ shields, sending them clattering to the ground in chaos.
Then, spurring his warhorse to leap, he soared high over the heads of the Jin soldiers like a storm descending from the sky.
A mighty steed could empower its rider with ferocity; likewise, a formidable rider could awaken the full potential of his horse. Xuanyuan Qi’s steed charged like a beast from the abyss, plunging into the enemy ranks with earth-shaking force.
To the Jin soldiers, it was as if a mythical war god had descended upon them; panic and dread filled the ranks!
But one killing god wasn’t enough. Following close behind was a smaller god of slaughter, Gu Jiao, cutting through enemy lines like a scythe through wheat, scattering soldiers in all directions, blood splashing in arcs.
Tang Yueshan, too, was in his element, slaying without restraint!
"Exhilarating! Hahahaha! Come and fight your grandpa! All of you! Come on, I’m right here!"
His loud taunts drew more enemy troops toward him, intentionally diverting pressure away from Gu Jiao and Xuanyuan Qi.
"This general will deal with you personally!" General Di unsheathed his broadsword from his waist and charged toward Tang Yueshan!
Tang Yueshan clashed fiercely with the State of Jin’s General Di.
General Di was also a fearsome warrior, with formidable skills. Initially, Tang Yueshan underestimated him, but after exchanging a few blows, he realized he was facing a tough opponent.
Tang Yueshan had no choice but to take the fight seriously.
Meanwhile, Xuanyuan Qi and Gu Jiao found themselves encircled by the main forces of the Jin army.
Learning from their earlier mistake, the enemy abandoned their defensive formation and switched to an offensive one, instantly escalating the danger of the situation.
Everyone’s stamina was gradually depleting, but unlike the Jin soldiers who had a steady influx of reinforcements, Gu Jiao and Xuanyuan Qi had no reserves; they were growing weaker with every passing second.
Gu Jiao’s eyes turned bloodshot with fury and desperation.
Almost there.
They were so close to breaking through…
“Curse your ancestors!” Tang Yueshan nearly took a blade to the back. He instinctively twisted and drove his sword backward, plunging it deep into General Di’s abdomen.
Then, while still on horseback, he leaned back, tucked his legs up, and snapped both feet around General Di’s head, twisting violently.
A sickening crack rang out as General Di fell with a pained scream!
A nearby Jin soldier turned pale with shock. “General Di—General Di—!”
Tang Yueshan gritted his teeth and straightened up in the saddle. Someone had tried to ambush him just now and a dart had pierced his thigh!
He yanked the dart out and tossed it aside, hacking his way through enemy lines until he caught up with Gu Jiao and Xuanyuan Qi, the three of them now riding neck and neck.
Gu Jiao immediately noticed the blood soaking his leg. “You’re hurt.”
Tang Yueshan replied, “Just a scratch. It’s nothing!”
The fall of General Di dealt a temporary blow to the Jin army’s morale. This was the best opportunity for them to escape the encirclement!
But just then, a terrifying surge of killing intent suddenly erupted from behind!
Gu Jiao’s heart trembled violently!
Clang!
It was Xuanyuan Qi who raised his sword and struck down the deadly arrow in mid-air!

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
