Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
It was a rather agonizing walk for Duke An.
After only a few steps, his forehead was already drenched in sweat.
“Maybe we should…” Gu Chengfeng, unable to bear the sight, wanted to step forward to help, but Gu Changqing grabbed him.
Gu Changqing gave a slight shake of his head.
Gu Chengfeng sighed. “Alright.”
Duke An carried Gu Jiao all the way to the main gate.
Both Xiao Heng and Little Jing Kong were caught off guard when they saw that it was he who carried the bride out on his back.
Little Jing Kong even forgot to clap and chatter as he usually would.
With Gu Jiao on his back, Duke An solemnly instructed Xiao Heng, “From this day on, I entrust my daughter to you. Do not let her suffer grievance, and never allow her to shed a single tear.”
Xiao Heng replied with grave sincerity, “I promise you, Father.”
Although he was an adoptive father, he was dearer than the birth father. He was more than worthy of the title.
Duke An placed Gu Jiao into the sedan chair borne by eight carriers.
The Black Wind King accompanied them as well.
Today was Gu Jiao’s grand wedding day, and it too wore a bright red flower on its head.
Inside the residence, Yao shi held Gu Xiaobao’s hand and watched from afar as Gu Jiao rode away in the bridal sedan, tears spilling uncontrollably down her face.
Liao Chen, Xuanyuan Qi, Old Marquis, and Gu Changqing all went to the main gate to personally see her off.
As for Xiao Heng——after greeting each of them in turn, he also mounted his horse.
Little Jing Kong was still struggling with his child’s saddle, unable to undo the buckle, so he simply perched on the horse’s back and waved enthusiastically at everyone, “I’m leaving! Goodbye, adoptive father! Goodbye, Granduncle! Goodbye, Master! Goodbye, big brother! Goodbye, brother Chengfeng! Goodbye, brother Yan! Goodbye, brother Xiaoshun! Goodbye, brother Chenglin! Goodbye, brother Yan’s Grandpa!”
Waving goodbye to so many people made his little hand terribly sore.
Everyone: Just go already, little one, before your horse blinds us all!
The horse king strutted away with a jaunty, triumphant gait, full of pride and vigor.
It hopped and bounced its way beside the Black Wind King.
The Black Wind King, crowned with a large red flower, looked at it with utter disdain: Keep your distance.
The clang of gongs and beat of drums faded further and further away, leaving the bustling street behind in a rare stillness.
Gu Chengfeng gave a few quiet instructions to a nearby guard, who quickly understood and went to the Marquis Ding’an Estate to fetch a spacious carriage.
He came down the steps toward the carriage. Hearing no movement behind him, he glanced back at the others. “Hey? Why are you all standing there like fools?”
“What are you up to?” Gu Yan asked.
Grabbing the reins, Gu Chengfeng checked the two horses pulling the carriage as he spoke. “It’s a wedding day, what else would we do? Of course, we’re going to the Marquis Xuanping Estate to drink wedding wine! There’s no rule that the bride’s family can’t attend the feast, right? If you don’t want to go, then forget it, I won’t force you. Don’t bother waiting for me tonight, I won’t be coming back sob——”
Before he could finish the word “sober”, he sensed something wrong and whipped his head around——
Everyone had already gotten onto the carriage!
Even little Gu Xiaobao was sitting obediently on Gu Yan’s lap.
Gu Chengfeng was dumbstruck. “What? At least… at least save me a seat——”
……
It wasn’t until an entire hour later that the Quan Family’s bridal procession finally arrived, belated and slow.
Gu Jinyu was carried onto the sedan chair by the wedding matron.
The one receiving her was a man dressed in a dark-blue brocade robe. With a gentle smile he said, “I am the second brother. I am here to receive the bride on behalf of my third brother.”
Unable to restrain herself, Chunliu asked by the sedan chair, “Why did the Third Young Master not come himself?”
The man smiled and explained to Gu Jinyu inside the sedan, “My younger brother injured his foot last night. We beg for our new sister-in-law’s understanding.”
Gu Jinyu clenched her handkerchief tightly, but kept her voice even. “I understand. I trouble Second Brother, then.”
On the same street, two brides were being wed that day.
The procession from the Marquis Changping Estate was indeed lively, numbering over a hundred people. But when compared with the grand display escorting Gu Jiao, it paled noticeably.
The Ghost-Faced Army, the Black Wind Cavalry, the Shadow Division, and the Gu Family Army, such an overwhelming force escorted the bridal sedan down the main street.
Those who knew said it looked like a marriage alliance between nations; those who didn’t might well think it was a military parade.
Little Jing Kong had risen far too early and was drowsy on the way back to the Marquis Estate.
The adorable little bridegroom sat in his child’s saddle, nodding like a pecking chick one moment, sprawling bonelessly the next, drool streaming down, sending the onlookers along the street into fits of laughter.
The future Godly General’s utterly disgraceful napping face was witnessed by the entire capital, yet another undeniable black mark in his history.
Xiao Heng glanced at the little fellow in amusement, then lifted him down and placed him atop Gu Jiao’s sedan chair.
The boy slept soundly, blissfully unaware, missing the entire wedding ceremony.
Once they arrived at the estate, a servant girl carried Little Jing Kong down.
Xiao Heng held Gu Jiao’s hand, helping her alight from the sedan.
The wedding matron handed over a long red silk, placing one end into each of their hands.
Hand in hand through the red silk, the couple stepped into the estate.
The crackle of firecrackers resounded along the entire street.
Inside, the estate was packed with people, buzzing with excitement.
Beside her, Xiao Heng murmured softly, “Don’t be nervous.”
Gu Jiao answered, “Mm.”
The wedding matron reminded her, “Bride, please step across the brazier.”
Gu Jiao stepped lightly over it.
The wedding matron smiled again. “Bride, please step on the tile.”
Gu Jiao whispered to Xiao Heng, “Should I break it or not?”
The wedding matron overheard and laughed. “Break it. The more pieces the better.”
That last bit was a slip of the tongue. Really, breaking it was enough——
But before she finished speaking, Gu Jiao brought her foot down and shattered the tile into powder.
The wedding matron: “…”
Xiao Heng: “…”
The two then entered the Mingguang Hall.
Marquis Xuanping and Princess Xinyang were seated in the place of honor.
Today was his son’s wedding, and for once Marquis Xuanping had behaved, sitting properly from morning until now.
Xiao Heng and Gu Jiao crossed the threshold and walked inside.
The wedding matron announced, “First bow to Heaven and Earth——”
Xiao Heng and Gu Jiao turned in unison and bowed toward the doorway.
The wedding matron continued, “Second bow to the parents——”
The two turned again and bowed respectfully to Marquis Xuanping and Princess Xinyang, seated at the place of honor.
A sheen of tears shimmered in Princess Xinyang’s eyes.
Marquis Xuanping did not look at her, but he quietly reached out and held her hand.
There was no trace of intimacy in the gesture.
Yet Princess Xinyang only felt more like crying, though she did not understand why.
Finally, the wedding matron declared, “Husband and wife bow to each other——”
Xiao Heng and Gu Jiao turned to face one another.
There were no elaborate words, no vows as eternal as heaven and earth, only a profound gaze held across the crimson veil.
Four years had passed, and finally, this moment had come.
They bowed deeply to each other.
Thank you for marrying me.
Thank you for becoming my husband.
For the rest of our lives, I entrust myself to you.
At last, Princess Xinyang’s tears fell with a soft splash.
Marquis Xuanping’s grip on her hand tightened ever so slightly.
The wedding matron raised her handkerchief with a broad smile and proclaimed, “Send them into the bridal chamber——”

PLEASE CHECK OUT OUR NEW PROJECT:
Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
