Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)

After coming out of the secret chamber, it was already late, so Marquis Xuanping first returned to his own courtyard and ordered people to prepare hot water for a bath.

Steward Liu looked at him with a strange expression. “Didn’t you already wash after training this morning? I’ve never seen you so particular about cleanliness before.”

“What do you know?”

Marquis Xuanping took off his bloodstained clothes, revealing a strong, well-built upper body.

His body was covered with interlacing scars; this was the frame of a general who had fought on battlefields for many years.

The muscles were tight, powerful, and well-defined.

Even though Steward Liu was a man, he couldn’t help but sigh with envy.

He put the clothes into the basket and muttered, “I know, you’re going to see the Princess.”

Marquis Xuanping raised his hand to untie his belt. “I’m going to see Yiyi… forget it, I’m too lazy to explain to you.”

After bathing, Marquis Xuanping changed into clean and light clothes, then went to see his precious little daughter.

That day, the whole family was dining together at Princess Xinyang’s residence.

There were Little Jing Kong, Shangguan Qing, and the newlywed couple.

When Marquis Xuanping entered the room and at first glance saw such a lively family gathering, he felt momentarily dazed.

Little Jing Kong resembled Xiao Heng so much when he was young, making one feel as though they had returned to the past. But it was not only the past, because now there were also Gu Jiao, Shangguan Qing, and Yiyi.

All these years he had lived in loneliness, so such sudden liveliness felt almost strange to him.

“What are you standing there for? The food will get cold.” Princess Xinyang said calmly.

“Coming.” He sat down beside Princess Xinyang without showing any emotion.

Princess Xinyang observed the rule of not speaking during meals or before bed, but she could not restrain Little Yiyi, who was just over half a year old and couldn’t keep her mouth quiet, babbling endlessly. Little Jing Kong would respond to her now and then, Shangguan Qing would trade quips with Xiao Heng, and thus the whole meal was filled with cheerful noise, carrying a warm and lively air like that of an ordinary household.

After eating and drinking their fill, Marquis Xuanping went to the study with his two sons, while Princess Xinyang and Gu Jiao took the two little ones out for a walk.

By the time they returned from their walk, the conversation between father and sons had also ended.

The two brothers’ courtyards were in the same direction, so the four of them left together.

Shangguan Qing snatched Little Jing Kong’s toy, and Little Jing Kong chased him all over the residence, one big and one small running wildly without pause.

The newlywed couple, hand in hand, strolled slowly along the flower-filled paths.

Xiao Heng spoke of Young Gentleman Ming Yue.

Gu Jiao had not expected Marquis Xuanping to move so quickly, and she was truly astonished.

Xiao Heng looked at Shangguan Qing, who was sticking out his tongue and making faces at Little Jing Kong ahead of them, and couldn’t help but laugh as he said, “My elder brother and my father may look unreliable most of the time, but when they meet someone they care about, they throw everything aside without hesitation.”

Gu Jiao nodded.

Xiao Heng smiled lightly and said, “You don’t need to envy them, because now they are also your elder brother and your father.”

Gu Jiao said, “Then I’ll just envy myself a little.”

Xiao Heng laughed.

Gu Jiao asked, “So, Young Gentleman Ming Yue is actually the young master of Sword Lodge. Then does that mean he and Long Yi are fellow disciples?”

Xiao Heng made a sound of acknowledgment. “Yes. His father was the master of Long Yi and An Hun. Long Yi and An Hun were both orphans, the earliest group of children who survived the purple herb poison.”

Gu Jiao asked, “Are the people of Sword Lodge cultivating death warriors with the purple herb poison?”

Xiao Heng replied, “He doesn’t know for certain, he only said there are such speculations.”

The situation of Young Gentleman Ming Yue was somewhat similar to that of Chang Jing. They both lived on islands, and both were young masters of reclusive sects.

However, Young Gentleman Ming Yue’s situation was not as fortunate as Chang Jing’s. He was not the biological son of the Island Lord’s wife.

The Island Lord’s wife was unable to bear children, so she adopted a nephew from her maiden family, intending for him to inherit Sword Lodge. Unexpectedly, not long after, one of the island’s maids gave birth to a son for the Island Lord.

Young Gentleman Ming Yue had secretly left the island to search for new purple herb, but not long after leaving he encountered an ambush. Not only did he lose the Black Moon sword, he was also struck with a gu poison from his enemies.

This gu poison originated from the island itself, and the only way to cure it was to return.

But without the Black Moon sword, he could not break through the mechanism that guarded the entrance to the island.

Gu Jiao suddenly realized, “So that’s how it is.”

Xiao Heng said, “Ming Yue mentioned that if he doesn’t circulate his internal force, the gu poison progresses very slowly, but once he activates his internal force, it will rapidly generate large amounts of toxin.”

“No wonder he wouldn’t fight with us.” Gu Jiao rubbed her chin thoughtfully. “I’m really curious just how strong he actually is. But I have another question. If the island’s mechanism can only be opened by the sect leader’s sword, how do the rest of the people return to the island?”

“They can’t.” Xiao Heng replied, “In the past, when people from the island went out to handle affairs, they only needed to send out a signal upon returning, and disciples holding the Black Moon sword would come and open the mechanism for them. But ever since the sword went missing, the mechanism has never been opened again. Those who left the island never returned.”

Realizing something, Gu Jiao frowned. “So that means Long Yi can’t go back either?”

Xiao Heng said, “That’s what he believes based on the facts he knows. But perhaps there are still things on the island that he himself is unaware of.”

Gu Jiao thought it over and felt that made sense.

Xiao Heng continued, “In any case, now that the young master of Sword Lodge is in our hands, our next moves will become much easier.”

Gu Jiao nodded. “Mm.”

To be honest, although this incident had erupted suddenly, she didn’t really feel that it was so difficult. Perhaps the hardest days had already passed, and now no matter what she did, it no longer felt like treading on thin ice.

“Do we have a plan?” she asked.

Xiao Heng relayed the conclusion of the discussion between father and sons. “Two options. First, spread the news about the Black Moon sword, to lure people from Sword Lodge to come searching. Second, go to Sword Lodge personally. Sword Lodge is not far from Hidden Night Island. If the first plan doesn’t work, my father said he’ll go himself, and while he’s at it, he can also check on Chang Jing.”

……

After playing and fooling around with Shangguan Qing, Little Jing Kong exhausted all his energy. After his bath, he was completely wilted.

Hugging his little pillow, he came to the bridal chamber.

Gu Jiao thought he was going to sleep with them, but to her surprise he rubbed his eyes, let out a small yawn, and said, “JiaoJiao, I’m going to bed. See you tomorrow.”

Gu Jiao stared blankly for a moment before replying, “Uh… alright, see you tomorrow.”

Little Jing Kong, holding his little pillow, left with a sleepy expression.

For the past three months, Xiao Heng had been gradually helping Little Jing Kong get used to sleeping on his own, and now the results were obvious.

Right. Children always had to grow up, to separate from their parents, and to learn how to spread their own wings.

Description:

In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.

When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.

The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.

From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.

***

Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.

After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"

Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"

Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”

Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."

Jiang Baiyan: ...?

He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
