Diary of a Dead Wizard

Chapter 712: Taking Someone Away

“Saul!!!!!!”

The thunderstorm turned the entire Kema Royal Palace a gloomy gray.

In a corner tower of the palace, candles were lit in the long corridor, but the light remained dim.

Only Keli’s flowing red hair shone with gentle light like satin.

After not seeing each other for years, the girl who had once worn two braids and had a few freckles on her face had grown up.

Keli crashed into Saul’s embrace with a bang, grabbing Saul’s collar. “How did you get here? Didn’t you advance to third rank? Can’t you leave the Borderland? Did you sneak out?”

Hearing Keli’s rapid-fire questions, Saul smiled and tapped her forehead. “I’m out on business, passing through Kema. If I didn’t come see you, I’d probably be resented forever, right?”

Keli covered her head and jumped back. “Heh, do you know whose head you just tapped? You tapped the head of the future Marchioness of the Kema Duchy!”

The corridor was quiet, with only Keli’s playful voice.

“Marchioness? I remember you’re an earl’s daughter.”

“The Earl has passed away. Grand Duke Kira intends for me to inherit the title and elevate it to Marquis.”

Hearing this, Saul was silent for a moment. “You’re about to advance to second rank, aren’t you?”

Keli pulled Saul toward the corner tower. “Yes, having been surpassed by you by so much, how could I not desperately try to catch up?”

“Can you focus on studying magic here?” Saul followed Keli to the laboratory that Kira had specially prepared for her in the royal palace.

The laboratory had many materials, bottles and jars, and crucibles being heated by flames.

But besides these, there were also mountains of parchment, exquisite floral paper, and several floating quill pens.

On the chair next to these was a court dress casually draped over it.

Saul looked back at the black wizard robes Keli was currently wearing and asked worriedly, “Here, don’t you have to help Grand Duke Kira handle many things?”

“Not too many, just sometimes I need to…”

“Should I talk to Grand Duke Kira about taking you away?” Saul asked very seriously.

The elegant paper and pens on the desk represented official duties, while the gorgeous court dress represented social obligations.

Looking at how casually the dress was placed, Saul could almost imagine how quickly Keli would remove her robes and change into comfortable, simple wizard robes after entering her personal space.

Keli walked to the court dress and fingered a silk flower on it.

“I do want to leave with you, but… the Kema Duchy still needs me, and my family also needs me in this position.”

Saul frowned. “When you first entered the wizard tower, didn’t you say you didn’t want to return to your family?”

Keli stuck out her tongue. “I was still young then. Of course when you’re little you can say anything, think anything.”

Saul stepped forward, placing his right hand on the chair back, his fingertips just touching the court dress’s neckline.

“You still can now.” Saul deliberately patted his chest with his left hand. “I’m a third-rank wizard now, and I’ll soon become fourth rank. I guarantee you can do whatever you want.”

Keli giggled, then said seriously, “I believe you, and I believe you’ll be the fastest third-rank wizard to advance to fourth rank!”

But then she changed her tone, “It’s just that you have your responsibilities, and I have mine. Grand Duke Kira brought me back and helped me advance. Now that she’s in trouble, I can’t just abandon her. As for family, if I don’t accept the Marquis position, my mother will cry to me every day.”

“What trouble does Grand Duke Kira have?” Saul understood that what was really holding Keli back was actually Kira’s help.

“The Kenas Duchy settled down for a while after losing a second-rank wizard in the last war. But recently they’re about to train a new second-rank wizard, so provocative actions along the border have increased.”

“Now that Tower Master Gorsa has also left, Grand Duke Kira is the only second-rank wizard left on Kema’s side. She also needs to train a new second-rank wizard.”

“So you’re the candidate?”

Keli smiled bitterly, her red hair looking less bright than before.

“The only candidate.”

Saul’s eyes moved slightly, but when he spoke again, he changed the subject.

“By the way, I have a gift for you.”

“What? What?” Keli almost pounced. “This is a gift from a third-rank wizard—so exciting!”

This girl!

Saul said indignantly, “If you put it that way, if my gift isn’t valuable, wouldn’t I be too embarrassed to take it out?”

Keli pulled at the corners of her mouth. “Of course, if this gift doesn’t match your status as a third-rank wizard, let’s see if you blush!”

Saul looked speechless but still took out a book from his spatial magical storage device.

“A magic book?” Keli’s eyes lit up as she immediately took it to examine.

As she read, she became absorbed.

She naturally pulled out a chair and sat down.

She read the common language text word by word, the light in her eyes growing brighter.

She seemed to forget Saul was still standing beside her.

Saul smiled silently and didn’t disturb Keli.

He stepped back two paces and narrowed his eyes to look above Keli’s head.

He saw a white, semi-transparent thread on Keli’s body.

This thin thread slowly extended to Saul, with a section in the middle seeming broken yet connected.

This was Keli’s fate line.

Confirming that her fate line had appeared near him, Saul disappeared from the room with satisfaction.

Keli didn’t notice even long after he had disappeared.

Saul’s figure appeared beside Diu Diu, who was perched on top of the Kema Royal Palace.

Originally, the Kema Duchy’s servants had wanted to find Diu Diu a warm, comfortable stable, but Diu Diu completely disdained the stable and finally flew to the rooftop of the Kema Duchy’s tallest building, braving wind and rain.

As if representing its master’s transcendent status.

Saul patted Diu Diu’s feathers and raised his hand to create a magical umbrella for it.

Looking up, he saw Kira, also completely soaked in the storm.

Kira wore dark green long sleeves and pants with half-armor on her upper body.

She jumped forcefully from the ground and leaped onto the rooftop.

“I’ll help you solve the Kenas Duchy problem. Please give Keli her freedom.”

Unexpectedly, upon hearing Saul’s words, Kira was clearly stunned.

She bit the corner of her pale lips and only spoke after a moment, “Actually, I hope you take Keli away. She’s someone who pursues knowledge. This place isn’t suitable for her.”

Kira actually thought this way?

She continued, “Keli is someone who pursues knowledge. She shouldn’t be trapped in worldly power and influence.”

Saul said calmly, “I need to ask for Keli’s opinion on this. But regardless, thank you for letting Keli leave.”

Kira’s smile was slightly bitter. “You and your master are really different.”

Why suddenly mention Master Gorsa?

Saul, “Keli’s a bit busy right now… When she finishes reading, I’ll ask for her opinion.”

Having made his meaning clear, Saul stepped onto Diu Diu.

“I have business to attend to. I’ll return before dark the day after tomorrow. At that time, if Keli is willing, I’ll take her away.”

Diu Diu spread its giant wings, and even wind and rain had to make way before it.

Finally, the giant bird flew farther and farther away, disappearing to the southeast.

A day later, the last remaining second-rank wizard of the Kenas Duchy was found to have suddenly mutated and then died violently.
