Chapter 221 - 005: His Name

Chapter 221: 005: His Name

Among all the Transcendents in the Ancient Ruins, apprentices number in the hundreds of thousands.

However, those who successfully advance to Wizards and continue to exist in the world today amount to only a few thousand. This figure includes all White Wizards, Black Wizards, and Grey Wizards combined.

For this reason, any apprentice advancing to a Wizard, regardless of the Wizard Organization or within the entirety of the Ancient Ruins, is considered a significant event.

When Lynch successfully advanced, and the Tower reported and announced it publicly, the news spread far and wide like wings taking flight.

“An apprentice has advanced to Wizard—it’s Lynch Valen! That Lynch Valen!”

“Oh my god, it’s him again!”

“Is he truly a Third-class Talent? The Tower couldn’t have gotten that wrong, could they? How is it possible with just a Third-class Talent?”

Far in the northwestern part of the Ancient Ruins, within the Wizard City of the Lawrence Family.

Carl was drinking fruit wine in large gulps at the tavern, proudly boasting to his comrades at the same table: “Do you know? Lynch Valen! The one who just recently advanced as Master Wizard, he’s my brother! My closest brother!”

“We entered the Wizard World together when we were still kids.”

“He’s my brother!”

“Haha! My brother has advanced to Wizard!”

In the southern part of the Ancient Ruins, within the Chris Family.

“Knock knock knock!” Subaru nervously knocked on the door of the study. It was his first summons from the family patriarch since joining the Chris Family.

“Come in.” A deep voice sounded.

Wizard Charlie Chris was seated at the desk handling documents. Upon seeing Subaru enter, he looked up and gave a kindly smile: “This is today’s Wizard Gazette. Take a look, see if you recognize the name on it.”

Subaru took the newspaper, and when he saw the headline, his small, round eyes nearly bulged out: “Lynch advanced to Wizard!!!”

Charlie rested his hands on the desk and directly asked, “I’ve heard you have a good relationship with Wizard Lynch, is that true?”

The spot Subaru earned in the Chris Family was only possible because Lynch exchanged Blood Crystals for it.

Subaru hurriedly replied, “He’s a very close brother of mine.”

Charlie glanced at Subaru, then nodded slightly and instructed, “Alright then. I recall you were born into a merchant family. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be transferred to the family’s auction house. Your salary will increase by five hundred Magic Stones.”

Subaru was overjoyed: “Serving the Chris Family is the greatest honor of my life!”

Charlie nodded with satisfaction and then offered another kindly smile: “Work hard. There are many unmarried girls in the family. Once you advance to Mid-level Apprentice, you could consider spending time with them.”

“The family won’t treat you poorly.”

In the eastern part of the Ancient Ruins, within the Fairy Forest, at the Magic Potion Manor.

Fresh out of the laboratory, Lanice was quickly surrounded by a group of newly arrived apprentices at the manor—students under her guidance.

“Teacher, Teacher Lanice! Have you heard? Someone has advanced to Wizard again!”

“It’s Lynch Valen. He’s an apprentice from the Shadow Tower, and seems to be from the same batch as you. Do you know him?”

Lanice accepted the newspaper from the apprentices and took a look.

Her lips quickly curled into a faint smile.

Due to the special status of the Magic Potion Manor, it had not participated in the Blood-colored Battlefield, and Lanice had not had the chance to see Lynch for years.

Now, seeing that familiar name appear again before her eyes, scenes from many years ago resurfaced vividly in Lanice’s mind—the honest, silly boy everyone used to mock and look down upon… In the blink of an eye, the gap had grown so vast.

Sigh…

Lanice felt genuine happiness for Lynch. Yet, deep in her heart, a wistful sigh echoed; from this moment onward, they belonged to two entirely different worlds.

She nodded, “I know him.”

“He’s the legend among us.”

In the Shadow Land, Graham was hawking Lynch’s autographs to other apprentices.

“Want to buy collectibles?”

“The autograph of the newly advanced Wizard, Lynch Valen…”

Similar scenes were playing out across the Ancient Ruins. Lynch’s advancement to Wizard had turned him into the center of conversations, especially among apprentices who had been contemporaries of his.

By now, most of them had left the Shadow Land and scattered to various corners of the Ancient Ruins. Upon hearing that one of their peers had achieved the lifelong goal of reaching this new rank, every apprentice was filled with mixed emotions.

Some apprentices, like Subaru and his fellows, genuinely rejoiced for Lynch’s promotion, raising cups in celebration and loudly proclaiming his name to those around them.

Others felt a hollow despair in their hearts, unable to understand why they had all entered the Wizard World and the Shadow Land together, yet Lynch had attained that coveted rank while they still remained Low-level Apprentices.

Some identified the problem, regretting that they hadn’t devoted themselves wholeheartedly to cultivation and had instead squandered time and energy elsewhere.

And, of course, some cursed the unfairness of fate, bitterly wondering why it wasn’t them who had advanced…

In summary,

While the advancement of a young Wizard might not be an event to change the dynamics of the world, it still caused a significant stir. Especially for someone like Lynch, who rose from humble beginnings and carried an undeniably legendary aura as an apprentice.

He had suddenly become a hot topic across the Ancient Ruins. Whether people knew him or not, they were all discussing him.

At the center of all this attention, Lynch remained entirely unaware. Even if he knew, he wouldn’t react much. For him, others’ opinions mattered little—he simply wanted to focus on being himself, cultivating, learning, and living in this Wizard World. That was all.

Life went on.

The day after completing the Wizard declaration at the Tower, Lynch set off from the Shadow Land toward the Human World. His destination: his hometown, Frost Cold Town.

Though Lynch didn’t know what Baron Acate wanted from him this time, he had to admit the man was clever.

The letter Acate mailed Lynch contained a detailed description of the Witchcraft item, along with its intricate carvings. Upon reading it, Lynch’s curiosity was greatly piqued. Since travel to the Human World was now as easy as pie for Lynch, he thought nothing of paying a visit.

After docking the ship, he mounted Parker and flew toward his hometown. The journey took less than an hour. Landing in a secluded area of the forest nearby, Lynch walked a short half-hour to reach the castle.

And there, Lynch finally understood the purpose behind Baron Acate’s summons.

He,

was dying.
