Chapter 241: 025: Undersea, Funeral, and Music
Endless Sea, Deep Sea Zone.
On the deep blue water surface, a massive catfish surfaced and swam forward, its long whiskers extending hundreds of meters behind it, dragging a three-masted ship.
After listening to the Catfish Monster’s request, Lynch weighed his options and eventually decided to do this small favor.
Although it wouldn’t matter if he refused, being new and on someone else’s territory, Lynch felt that building goodwill wouldn’t hurt, especially since it was just a trivial effort.
After traveling forward for several hours, a massive whirlpool appeared on the horizon. Its diameter seemed to be at least a thousand meters, churning the seawater as it relentlessly sunk downward.
The Catfish Monster brought the Parrot to the edge of the whirlpool, and a tremendous suction force instantly dragged the ship toward the whirlpool’s center, spinning and pulling it downward.
“Hold on tight!”
“We’re going to fall! Oh my god!”
The sailors on deck turned pale with fright and clutched the railing desperately.
As the Parrot was about to be torn apart by the whirlpool, several transparent tentacles emerged from its depths.
It was a giant jellyfish, roughly the same size as the Catfish Monster.
Its tentacles quickly wrapped around the Parrot’s masts, railings, and other parts. Then, with a strong pull, it enclosed the entire ship within itself like a bubble, enveloping it entirely.
Under the jellyfish’s protection, the Parrot stabilized and began descending rapidly into the Deep Sea, riding the whirlwind along with the jellyfish.
Accelerate! Further acceleration!
The rapidly spinning whirlpool resembled a long, fast-moving tunnel formed beneath the ocean. Enveloped by the jellyfish, the Parrot’s speed swiftly climbed to hundreds of yards, zooming through this high-speed passageway piercing the seabed.
Soon, the sights of the ocean’s depths unfolded before everyone’s eyes.
At first, everything grew dark.
They had already descended several hundred meters below the surface. With sunlight hindered by the seawater, illumination became faint. Upon plummeting to nearly a thousand meters, the world became utterly dim.
Initially, they thought their journey would be spent entirely in such a pitch-black environment, but reality proved otherwise.
After traveling forward in darkness for an unknown distance, approximately ten minutes passed before faint lights appeared amidst the black expanse of seawater.
Some were white and yellow; others were red and blue.
The farther they advanced, the more lights emerged. Drawing closer, everyone discerned the true form of these sources—glowing jellyfish, fish with light-emitting appendages curved like lanterns, luminous seaweed, coral, and more.
Various undersea creatures radiated vibrant lights, blending into a kaleidoscope that illuminated the dark abyss, presenting the gorgeous and breathtaking beauty of the undersea realm for all to behold.
They saw:
Thick green seaweed blanketing undulating hills, adorned with shells and pearls, while multicolored corals of various heights—from tens of centimeters to several meters—clustered like a vibrant forest.
Massive sea algae swayed gently underwater, akin to elves dancing in the underwater forest.
Schools of dazzling, multihued fish swam among this paradise, their scales shimmering with peculiar iridescence, resembling flowing rainbows.
Other fish gathered en masse, swimming toward the undersea tunnel and letting themselves be swept along its whirlpool-like current, spinning wildly—like playful children—and decorating the tunnel with vibrant pinwheels and wreaths.
This surreal scene resembled an enchanting dream, one so fantastical that even the most poetic minstrel could never fully encapsulate it.
For a moment, every person on deck was awestruck. Their eyes opened wide, and though they were seasoned sailors who had roamed the oceans for decades, such a dreamlike landscape was a first-time experience.
They had never imagined the ocean possessed such a wondrous side.
The enormous Catfish Monster, the brilliant underwater world, the enchanting undersea tunnel—everything felt like being trapped in a dream.
No!
Not even the most exquisite dream could compare to the vivid splendor before their eyes.
At this moment.
As mere mortals, they truly felt this voyage was utterly worthwhile, even if they were to die here right now.
The journey continued.
After trekking through the undersea tunnel for several hours, the Parrot emerged from the other side.
And before them unfolded another extraordinary sight.
It was a vast undersea cavern, far beyond anyone’s comprehension of size.
Looking upward, the cavern’s ceiling was nowhere in sight—merely shrouded in gray mist. With no clear point of reference, one would never guess this was a cavern had they not entered through the configuration of the seabed’s mountain tunnels.
The cavern’s atmospheric pressure was so high it split this colossal chamber into distinct water and air zones. Freed from the jellyfish’s protective bubble, the Parrot finally took a breath.
At this point, the jellyfish and Catfish Monster flanked the Parrot, escorting it deeper inside the cavern.
The water’s surface here was shallow, and various jagged rocks protruded everywhere, slowing the Parrot’s pace to a lethargic crawl.
The lighting grew dim. The brilliant undersea lights from outside seemed absent here, leaving only faintly glowing crystals or other minerals embedded within the cavern walls. Their flickers resembled stars in the sky.
The jellyfish and catfish, previously lively, abruptly turned silent, exuding spiritual power tinged with sorrow.
The boat sailed slowly for around 20 minutes before reaching its destination.
This was the farthest depths of the cavern. The water grew exceedingly shallow, and the terrain ahead even revealed a sandbank—beyond which lay a vast expanse of dry land leading to unknown destinations.
At this moment, numerous sea creatures had gathered around the sandbank.
Catfish Monster, giant jellyfish, oversized shrimp, colossal crabs, massive squids, enormous turtles—many known and unknown deep-sea giants had assembled, resembling an enormous seafood feast.
Lynch, a seafood aficionado, might have humorously fantasized about dinner under normal circumstances, but now he couldn’t bring himself to jest at all.
It was because the gathered sea monsters showed solemn and sorrowful expressions, their spiritual power laden with grief.
They encircled the sandbank, forming an arc while focusing their gazes upon it.
And on that sandbank lay a giant octopus.
It was an oddly shaped octopus, with one large and one small head, spanning roughly five to six hundred meters. On land, it would tower as high as a small mountain, akin to sea monsters from legendary tales.
Yet at this moment, this monster displayed none of the ferocity or ruthlessness of folklore. It appeared frail and gasping for breath—its body sprawled limply across the sandbank, barely held up by a rock beneath it.
Its head drooped, eyelids nearly shut, and its pupils had begun to lose focus.
Then, upon noticing the approaching Parrot, those scattering pupils suddenly regained clarity. The dim eyes rekindled with faint light, and it even struggled as though attempting to sit upright.
Its gaze remained fixed on the advancing ship, brimming with childlike anticipation.
Meanwhile, the surrounding sea monsters naturally spread apart, creating a path for the vessel. Their gazes collectively converged upon Lynch’s ship, filled with gratitude.
The boat sailed toward the shallow sea area and stopped. The sailors dropped the anchor to secure the vessel.
Lynch rose into the air and flew toward the giant octopus, ultimately alighting on a rock near the creature.
Then, Lynch retrieved a lute from his Space Pocket.
This was the Catfish Monster’s heartfelt request—
To perform a song and play music for its dying octopus friend. Music from the Human World.
According to the Catfish Monster, this octopus friend had a remarkable experience in its youth. It ventured into the Shallow Sea Area, encountering humans and hearing sailors sing with abandon beneath the setting sun.
Sound is a rarity in the undersea world, let alone singing. Except for mermaids in other regions, music is almost nonexistent here. Even with heavenly voices, mermaids lack the rich instruments of the Human World.
Since that time, the octopus grew fond of Human World’s music, often hiding in the depths or behind rocks to eavesdrop on sailors singing. Enthralled, it even surfaced occasionally, attempting exuberantly to join their chorus—
Though it mostly terrified them senseless, leaving behind the roots of infamous folklore still recounted today…
As it aged, the terms of the accords among the Sea Clan and Wizards forced the Two-headed Octopus to leave the Shallow Sea Area and return to the Deep Sea Zone. Since then, it had never heard Human World’s music again.
Now, at the brink of death, its final wish was simply to hear the melodies of the Human World once more.
The creatures gathered today were lifelong companions of the octopus, forged in bonds of deep camaraderie from childhood. For the sake of fulfilling its final wish, everyone made utmost efforts. Yet constrained by the accords, they couldn’t violate the rules and could only search the Deep Sea Zone for lost vessels.
Unfortunately, unable to communicate effectively, most human ships failed to understand their intentions. In recent days, numerous captured vessels brought nothing but terror instead.
Until Lynch’s arrival rekindled their glimmer of hope.
Standing upon the rock, Lynch cradled the lute and contemplated this profound friendship among the sea creatures, while silently lauding his foresight.
Indeed, having versatile skills was a blessing!
Over the past few years, he had tirelessly traveled across the Seven Kingdoms, exploring the Human World whenever possible. During his journeys, he mastered various arts, music included.
[Lute: Max]
[Flute: Max]
[Cello: Max]
Without these skills, even standing here today might have been in vain.
With these thoughts swirling, Lynch cleared his throat, plucked the lute strings, and began to sing:
“Once there was a ship that sailed the sea, its name was Far Ocean.”
“It set off to seek treasure across the oceans!”
“Raise the sails high, pull up the anchor, let’s go, brothers, to find the legendary treasure!”
