Chapter 254: 005: God
Belief in divine entities is common in any plane of existence, and the Wizard World is no exception.
However, people’s faith in gods here is not as centralized as it is on Earth. Instead, it is diverse and chaotic, with deities like the Lake Goddess, Tree Leaf God, and Spoon God, among countless others whose names are known or forgotten.
Most of these originated from the Age of Gods, a time that predates the rise of Wizard Civilization.
But generally speaking, where there is the unknown, there will be confusion, and where there is confusion, there is a need for spiritual sustenance. Abstract deities are the inevitable products of such a need, regardless of the world.
According to Jamie, the Freemasonry Church emerged just a few years ago. Initially, it merely distributed food and spread gospel and teachings to the impoverished, gradually garnering some popularity. Eventually, they began establishing monasteries and recruiting followers.
Jamie described their doctrine and ideology, which seemed similar to the monotheistic religions that Lynch knew of on Earth. It was nothing more than fabricating an omnipotent god, creating beautiful visions to compel people into belief, such as virtuous individuals ascending to the Kingdom of Heaven, sinners descending into Hell, and ordinary people entering the cycle of reincarnation.
Their teachings are primarily positive, offering hope to people. Indirectly, these ideas also help solidify the rule of the nobles. After all, with hope, the oppressed lower classes are less likely to entertain rebellious thoughts.
Thus,
The nobles tacitly allow, if not actively encourage, their preaching.
Over the years, the Freemasonry Church has grown significantly. According to Jamie, their churches can now be seen in many places across the Seven Kingdoms.
This surprised Lynch somewhat, as he had heard nothing about them during his previous travels across the Seven Kingdoms.
However, considering the time, it made sense. Since his return from exploring the Magic Energy Research Institute, he had not ventured out again, and that had been many years ago.
In the Wizard World, such a period might feel like a single secluded retreat, but in the Human World, it could very well mark the transformation of an entire era.
“Dear brothers and sisters, I bring you the love and redemption of the Father. In this chaotic world, we are all lost lambs. But do not fear, for the Father is always by our side. He is willing to accept anyone who sincerely repents and seeks the Light.”
“Let us pray together, feel the love of the Father, and spread this love to everyone around us, making this world better through our faith. May the Father bless us.”
Under the elder’s devout voice, the followers all prostrated themselves on the ground and began to pray:
“May the Father bless us!”
“May the Father bless us!”
The Father,
is the highest deity worshipped by the Freemasonry Church.
…
After completing the solidification of spiritual power for advancing to a High-level Wizard, the cultivation of spiritual power within the wizard stage comes to an end. Up next is the second step of wizard-stage cultivation—
The soul!
When a person is first born into this world, their soul is incredibly pure. However, as they age and are exposed to more people and events, their soul gradually becomes contaminated and begins to absorb impurities.
In theory, the longer one lives in this world, the more impurities their soul accumulates.
At the stages of a Wizard and below, these impurities have very limited effects, as the runes and spells utilized in magic during this period rarely involve the soul.
But at the Mystical Rank, things are different.
At this stage, magical knowledge is intrinsically tied to the soul. Without a sufficiently strong soul, one cannot wield the knowledge of the Mystical Rank. To be precise, possessing sufficient Soul Power is the key to unlocking the door to the Mystical Rank.
Hence, the elevation of the soul becomes an essential and unavoidable goal in wizard-stage cultivation.
And the cultivation at this stage primarily revolves around removing impurities.
Through constant forging of one’s soul, impurities are expelled bit by bit, resulting in Soul Power that is sufficiently pure.
According to wizard research, the level of soul contamination varies between individuals. On average, innate soul purity ranges from 5% to 28%.
To advance to the Mystical Rank, one must raise this purity level to at least 70%.
However, the process of forging the soul is both perilous and highly unpredictable. Every attempt comes with the risk of failure, and each small breakthrough is akin to breaking a shackle.
The Blood Crystals from the Blood-colored Battlefield are sought after by wizards precisely because they can assist in increasing soul purity, but even with their help, the purity level can only be improved by a maximum of 10%.
This highlights just how arduous soul cultivation truly is.
This step is also the most difficult one in wizard-stage cultivation. Nearly 99% of High-level Wizards fail to advance to the Second Tier because they are stuck at this point.
Lynch Mansion, Cultivation Room.
On a wooden table, a Soul Crystal—used specifically to measure soul purity—emitted a radiant blue glow. A number gradually emerged on its surface: 13.1%.
Staring at the number, Lynch murmured, “13%, huh? Not high, not low. About average. Not too bad, I suppose.”
He then activated his system panel and glanced at the associated data displayed there.
[Soul Purity lv13: 16328/280000]
“So this Soul Purity level probably represents the percentage of purity itself? Which means maxing it out would be 100%, right?”
“Well, let’s give it a shot and see.”
Closing the system panel, Lynch took out a pocket watch and pressed its button, entering the Time Hut to begin the cultivation of his Soul Power.
He didn’t use the Blood Crystals. Although he still possessed a small batch of experimental samples left from earlier research, Lynch didn’t feel the need to rely on them.
The toughest part of soul forging lies in its unpredictability. Each attempt might yield no progress, constrained by numerous shackles. Even if each shackle represented a single percentage point, there would still be dozens of them waiting to be broken.
Every shackle requires an indeterminate amount of time to overcome. Moreover, a failed breakthrough can even damage the soul…
But for someone with Lynch’s system, these shackles were essentially nonexistent. As long as he cultivated his skill level, progress would inevitably follow.
All he needed to do was work hard, and the system would take care of the rest.
A short while later, Lynch completed his first round of soul forging.
“Soul Purity Skill Level +3.”
Hearing the system’s notification, Lynch opened his eyes and glanced at the updated data in the system log.
He couldn’t help but smirk wryly, “So slow…”
At this point, he began to understand the struggles of other wizards. Incremental gains in skill level, but with 280,000 needed to level up—and this was just for this stage alone. This was far harder than cultivating spiritual power.
And it must be noted, most attempts at soul forging yield no results at all. For most wizards, the only outcome of their efforts is wasted time.
“No wonder so many wizards go bankrupt searching desperately for materials to cultivate their souls… If it weren’t for the system, I might have given up as well…”
Reflecting on this, Lynch closed his eyes and continued his soul forging.
As always,
He would focus on his effort, and leave the rest to the system.
