Chapter 578: The Fat Ruler
Rael walked through the hallways with a blank expression.
He was… ancient.
Literally.
Earlier, he was still 93 years old, sort of. With his Sloth skill, he was around 390 thousand years old, but it didn’t count since he mostly aged inside his mind, and the majority of the time he was asleep.
But now, he was here in the flesh, somehow meditating for 900 years straight without noticing.
I mean… At least I don’t look older? If I don’t tell anyone, then no one will know I’m this old.
[We’ll know,] Gaia and Anna said in unison.
“…”
[There’s nothing to be ashamed about,] Gaia assured. [I, myself, am several eons old. Anna is also nearly as old as me, except she doesn’t have most of her memories. I guess we are alike that way.]
[I have many more memories than you,] Anna said with a pout. [Being the shadow of Solenne, I got to experience many things, such as—] ʀᴇᴀᴅ ʟᴀᴛᴇsᴛ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀᴛ N0veI.Fiɾe.net
You saw many things, you didn’t experience anything. Rael sighed. On another note, Gaia, what’s with that breathing technique?
[That? Oh, it’s just an ancient breathing technique that focuses on calming the mind and cleansing the spirit and soul. I remember one of the Ancient Primordials used it. I believe he was a monk too,] Gaia replied.
It sounded so simple, but the technique was far more overpowered than it seemed. Even now, while moving, he felt as if by throwing a punch, he could exert nearly double, if not triple, the power that he would normally be able to.
And as if recognizing that fact, Gaia said, [I can create an abilities tab for you. It’s just a tooltip, but it’ll be convenient to track. That’s only if you want me to, though.]
Rael nodded right away, and within just a few seconds, a pop-up appeared in front of him.

1. The Breath of the Ancient Primordial Monk: A breathing technique focusing on calming the mind and cleansing the spirit and soul.
[How is it?] Gaia asked expectantly.
It’s perfect. Rael smiled. It’ll be very convenient, thank you, Gaia.
Once again, she gave him something nice. It was becoming hard to track the number of times she had helped him, and for that reason alone, he felt like it was his responsibility to help her regain all of her memories.
Since Evelyn was the one who took her memories, I’ll have to reach out to her later as well.
Gaia didn’t reply, but he did hear a faint giggle that faded just as soon as it resounded.
With Gaia gone, he was about to go find another ruler, but that was when Anna spoke up, her voice surprisingly wary.
[I feel a familiar presence,] she said.
Hmm? How familiar? Rael asked, taking her seriously.
[Very familiar…] Anna replied.
He got the hint right away.
Do you think it’s Solenne? Shit… Did Lucien already join her?
He did his best to tinker with his Fate, but maybe after all his efforts, he just failed to take into account that the events could move up this fast.
[The presence is gone,] Anna said. [It feels fleeting. Maybe I imagined it? It was only there for a second or so…]
I doubt you’d imagine something like that, Rael replied. Moving forward, I’ll act like Solenne’s watching me. Thanks for the heads-up.
[No problem, but if Solenne really is here, then don’t even try to fight her. Run away immediately,] Anna added. [Despite what you’ve seen so far… You did destroy her city. She will not play around with you anymore, and she will either snatch your soul right out of your body or kill you outright.]
…Noted.
As he continued through the hallways, Anna kept on telling him all sorts of stories about Solenne. From something as simple as killing millions to somehow mind-controlling an entire galaxy in the blink of an eye.
It really made him feel insignificant, so much so that if Solenne were to actually come to his galaxy and snap her fingers, it would all be destroyed and everyone would be killed.
As for Solenne? She might face some temporary universal restriction. That’s about it.
Shaking his head in disappointment, Rael eventually arrived in the cafeteria. In the far corner, there was the shadowy figure of a fat ruler. Not only that, the table it sat at was decked out in hundreds of plates of food. Rather, there were tens of tables all brought together to form one giant table.
In short, the fat ruler was stuffing its mouth, not caring about Rael in the slightest.
Still, Rael had a pretty good idea about what this test would be, so he sat down at the table, and right as he reached for the smoked ribs, he halted.
His foresight showed him that if he were to place his hand on the food, his entire upper body would be blown to bits by the figure in front of him.
Even though he didn’t believe that dying was a fun pastime, he was a little hungry, though. Therefore, he reached into the Premium Shop and bought himself a few sandwiches. Crossing his legs, he ate them right in front of the fat ruler.
That seemed to finally get a reaction out of the fat ruler, as it stopped eating. Instead, it glanced at Rael with its fierce red eyes.
After a few brief moments, it spoke:
“Are you going to finish that?”
Rael raised his brow and tossed what was left of the sandwich inside his mouth.
“Why? Want some?”
The ruler immediately slammed its hand down onto the table.
“Boy… When this ruler asks for food, you give him food. Understood?”
“You didn’t really ask me for food though, did you?” Rael sighed. “Just give me a test. I only have a few hours left before my trial ends.”
The fist of the ruler shook, and Rael felt a fierce killing intent directed straight at him.
“Boy, do you think you have what it takes to fill this ruler’s stomach?”
Rael looked him up and down, a small bead of sweat running down his forehead.
Probably not…
But for the sake of passing this trial, he had to do what he had to do.
“Of course. I’m confident.”
