Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields

Chapter 209 Mutant Creatures

New fragment, underground parking lot.

Lin Yi pressed the button, and the door began to activate.

The ground trembled slightly as the door started to pull apart, retracting into the walls.

But nothing happened...

Solomon asked, "What now?"

"We wait. There might be some cunning creature hiding inside," Lin Yi said, feeling beneath him without moving his feet.

At that moment, a sound came from the darkness behind the door.

"Howl!"

"See, I told you!"

Lin Yi laughed, fired a few shots, and then gave an order.

"Single shots! Fire at will, maybe you'll hit something!"

"Howl!"

A thunderous roar echoed again. The sound was filled with anger and seemed much closer than before.

"Look up! It's above us!" a soldier shouted.

He fired his gun, and the creature roared again.

Everyone began shooting at the ceiling on the other side of the door, and suddenly, a huge thing fell down, cracking the entire ground.

"It was hiding on the ceiling all this time! You cunning beast! Kill it! It's about to show itself..."

Lin Yi kept shooting, keeping an eye on the fight.

Suddenly, a black tentacle stretched toward them.

"Damn! It's a perverted creature! Be careful; if it grabs you, it'll definitely have its way with you! Unless you want to lose your 'flower of chastity'..."

The soldiers burst into laughter, and then the perverted creature let out a pitiful moan.

Reduced to a pile of tattered flesh.

Another creature roared and slammed into the half-open door, causing the ground to tremble once more.

The creature's face emerged from the darkness, its skin black, with three pairs of yellow eyes and a mouth big enough to easily swallow a horse.

"Blind it! Call for reinforcements!"

"Yes, boss!"

The warriors fired madly...

After losing three eyes, the creature retreated into the darkness, trying to attack the soldiers with dozens of tentacles, but they were easily fended off.

Lin Yi continuously teleported battery-powered floodlights and lanterns from the shelter to increase brightness as much as possible,

but the creature was striving to destroy these light sources!

Two minutes later, reinforcements finally arrived.

Six soldiers arrived, and several patrol squads in the city were also on their way.

The additional firepower significantly eased the pressure on the initial soldiers.

"Is this monster ever going to die?!" a soldier shouted.

They had been shooting at the tentacles and the creature lurking in the dark for a full five minutes, but still, there was no effect!

"Boss! Give me a Level 4 Energy Core and a few more minutes!" Louis shouted, his eyes blazing.

Lin Yi silently handed him an Energy Core and continued shooting.

The monster didn't die; instead, it began extending more tentacles, and a soldier was nearly caught, but a beastman arrived just in time and sliced the tentacle in half.

Boom!

The monster slammed into the door again and then retreated, repeating this process fifteen seconds later.

The door started to deform...

"Should we use the Laser Cannon, boss?"

"I've thought about it, but I'm worried we'll end up being buried alive... but if this creature keeps slamming the door, we'll be in danger of being buried alive anyway..."

Once Lin Yi took out the Laser Cannon and fired, the creature roared, using all its strength to crash into the door, smashing it to pieces.

The floodlights illuminated a massive, shapeless corpse, its face incredibly grotesque.

Its eyes fixed on Lin Yi, who held the Laser Cannon.

"Solomon! Cover me, this cannon needs at least twenty seconds to recharge!" Lin Yi squinted his eyes.

Solomon immediately transformed into a stone form, grabbed two nearby Light Beam Swords, and charged toward the creature.

The beastmen followed suit.

The creature's body swelled with some bulges, which quickly transformed into more tentacles, shooting toward the approaching enemies like a frog's tongue.

Two young beastmen were the first to be attacked, and the creature extended more than a dozen tentacles toward each of them.

The tentacles punched their Steel Armor, leaving deep dents in their armor.

The beastmen leader, Terma, easily dodged and sliced off a few tentacles.

His Light Beam Sword cut effortlessly through them, as if slicing water.

Solomon also became the target of a massive attack in his stone form, but his defense was good, leaving him temporarily unharmed.

However... the creature suddenly grew a massive tentacle, which smashed into Solomon's stone abs, knocking him away.

The creature roared and charged at what it considered the most dangerous 'bug.'

Then, a scream suddenly erupted from the darkness, as something collided with the creature.

A four-meter-high thing made of pipes and rusty metal knocked that roaring monster down.

It's something resembling a tin man made from a pile of rusty junk.

It's Louis!

As a Level 3 Mechanician, he can create all sorts of strange devices.

"Hurry up, my Magic Value is almost gone!" Louis shouted loudly, with sweat on his forehead.

This strange tin man can't move without magic power because all its joints are made from rusty metal and things picked up from the surrounding environment.

Only a Level 4 Energy Core can maintain the magic value needed for it to move.

This metal tin giant is attacking the monster's soft body, and soldiers are also quickly shooting at the monster.

More reinforcements have arrived!

"Fall back, Louis, the cannon is going to unleash!"

Lin Yi raised the Energy Cannon while the tin man leaped back, exhausting Louis' last bit of magic value.

As it landed, it shattered into thousands of pieces.

At this moment, a bright blue light ball was fired from the Laser Cannon, hitting the monster's body.

The entire garage was illuminated by dazzling light.

Some soldiers who had never seen a Laser Cannon fired couldn't open their eyes.

When the light finally faded, all that was left of the monster was a large mass of bloody flesh.

Half of the monster's body had turned into a rain of blood and organs, splattering all over the soldiers and reinforcements.

[You killed an unknown mutated creature]

[You gained 178 Experience Points]

A soldier looked at the monster's corpse and uncertainly asked, "Is it really dead?"

"Dead as a doornail. By the way, you guys are pathetic, I killed this thing and got 178 Experience Points. That means you barely inflicted any damage on it, hehe..."

"Boss, could it possibly be worth a thousand Experience Points?" A soldier wearing Power Armor and holding a Laser Rifle asked.

Like the others, his helmet and armor were also covered in a light red slime.

"Impossible, this was just a Level 3 mutated creature. They're only worth 200 Experience Points."

"Level 3? Such a big guy?!"

The soldiers had originally thought it was at least Level 4 or even Level 5, considering it was far stronger than the zombies outside.

Solomon was checking the remains of this huge monster while taking away its dropped loot.

"A purple reward..."

"Don't relax yet—who knows what might be on the other side of that door? Doctor Theodore, check the Beastmen's bodies, the rest of you, clean yourselves up, we're moving out!"

"Yes, Boss!"

Although the Beastmen were attacked, they were basically unharmed...

This door led to a huge corridor, eight meters high and two meters wide, with various electronic devices on the walls, assumed to be military equipment.

The monster had severely damaged these devices, now they're just a heap of scrap metal.

But when Louis looked closely at these scraps, his eyes lit up immediately. If he researched them, he might discover some new technologies or interesting engineering solutions!

After walking about two hundred meters, the group arrived... at a wall of fog.

"Look for hidden doors, hatches, or anything like that! My intuition tells me this place is very valuable!"

The soldiers searched the entire 200 meters but found nothing... only solid walls and lots of damaged equipment.

Louis's skill, Level 1 X-ray Vision, didn't help here.

Solomon thought about it and came up with an idea.

"Boss, if we occupy this fragment? Can we search it faster?"

"True, but what do I want with such a big piece of useless land?"

"It's a lot of material, Boss..."

"We can get material on Earth, and if we take over this broken place, we'll have to figure out how to defend it.

I once told you, the larger our Shelter, the higher its Space-Time Detection Level, which would make us more tempting targets for those Arks."

The boss shook his head; Teruo had warned him not to expand recklessly.

Usually, the smaller the Ark, the faster its speed in the Sea of Space-Time, and the higher the concentration of Life Force.

Of course, as long as Earth exists, the Life Force in the Shelter is infinite, and even if the Shelter grows thirty times bigger, its sail can maintain top speed...

But the area they need to defend would also increase.

"If this is a dead end, then where does the power for the control panel and door come from?" a soldier muttered to himself...

At this moment, Lin Yi finally understood.

"Let's head to the center of the fragment, we're going to occupy it! Louis, put down the scrap metal, it won't run away."

The group left the underground parking lot and headed toward the center of the fragment.

Lin Yi jumped onto his 'Dagger' and sped toward the fragment's edge.

Currently, each low-level Unification Device only costs a thousand Coins, so he bought ten at once.

"A few weeks ago, a thousand Coins still seemed like a lot of money."

Lin Yi talked to himself.

He's no longer that bearded Oriental guy holding a Baseball Bat and lugging around a backpack full of potatoes.

He's now a force to be reckoned with...
