The Growth of a God

Chapter 7: The Desecrator of Cyber Civilization (1/3)

In the All Heavens and Myriad Realms, countless lives aspire to ascend to divinity.

Each different life form, each distinct ideology, will derive a uniquely different Path to Divinity.

Even the God of Wisdom, the most erudite among All Heavens and Myriad Realms, might be unable to articulate precisely how many Ascension to Divinity Techniques exist in this world.

The only certainty is that, be it orthodox or unorthodox, any path that transcends one's life dimensions can be regarded as a new "Ascension Ladder."

David is a practitioner of a new type of "Ascension Ladder."

The world where David was born is a quintessential Cyber World, where high technology, low standard of living, and infinite death accompanied his entire childhood.

In other worlds, gods often maintain an aloof posture, yet in David's world, they exist in a very approachable manner.

As long as you are willing to offer your faith, the gods manifest within the network will generously bestow their blessings upon you.

The Cyber God who modifies biological gene parameters...

The God of Information who can digitalize souls...

The God of Machinery who grants followers high-tech prosthetics...

These gods are widely present within the network, existing more akin to a trading platform or a puppet master behind the scenes.

Prior to this, David never found anything unreasonable about this lifestyle.

Because he himself was conceived through modified gene parameters as a Cyber Individual, naturally endowed with capacities far exceeding that of native species.

Moreover, as David's parents had dedicated his personality data to the God of Information before he was born,

he was inherently gifted with the ability to back up his personality, predestined to be an Apostle of the God of Information.

Under normal circumstances, David would become an employee of the "Information Communication Company," rising step by step to the highest position of CEO, acting out the Divine Authority of the God of Information.

Alas, the unforeseen is so named precisely because it defies human will.

Neither the God of Information within the Cyber World could have imagined that a paper crane from the Fallen Area would fly into its world.

It was a Misfortune Paper Crane capable of bringing disaster, a faith totem from an Ancient God.

From the moment David obtained that Misfortune Paper Crane, his fate was destined to be beyond the control of the God of Information.

Under the influence of the Misfortune Paper Crane, David first encountered the lingering consciousness of the previous God of Information, deep within the dark web, through which he decompressed his personality and obtained freedom anew.

Subsequently, in a semi-active, semi-passive manner, David gradually transformed from a devout follower into a Desecrator of the gods.

In the Cyber World created by gods, all matters are governed by divine will.

From significant wars and disasters to the mundane necessities of life...

Gradually realizing the preciousness of freedom, David naturally wouldn't allow the gods to dictate his destiny any further.

Therefore, while hiding his anomalies with the help of the lingering consciousness, David explored the outside world through the Misfortune Paper Crane.

In this regard, the Misfortune Paper Crane proved far more generous than the lingering consciousness.

To David, the Ancient God behind the Misfortune Paper Crane seemed indifferent even to faith, something that concerns divine dignity.

It merely intended to understand everything happening in the Cyber World through David as its medium.

In exchange, the Misfortune Paper Crane would provide assistance to David when necessary.

It was under the protection of these two deities that David was able to repeatedly evade the scrutiny of the God of Information and ascend to the position of CEO of the "Information Communication Company."

Then, unsurprisingly, David's affairs were exposed.

David's exposure was not due to his own fault, but because the predecessor God of Information sought to reclaim divine authority.

Without David's knowledge, the previous God of Information utilized his privileges to frantically propagate his former faith across the network, capturing the digitized electronic lives.

By the time David realized it, the former God of Information had already reassembled his Divine Format in the vast ocean of data.

One must understand that the Cyber World where David resided had long stepped into an era of biological, mechanical, and informational integration.

The actions of the former God of Information could not possibly escape the notice of other gods.

Nonetheless, those Cyber gods, much like the world itself, cannot be conceived through normal logical thought.

Not only did they not suppress such actions, but actively aided the former God of Information in its Rebirth.

Even though this might incite a war of no respite between the two gods...

Even though it could drive this already chaotic world once more to the brink of apocalypse...

That was the first time David realized the terror of a "God."

Civilization perished due to the war between two gods, the world crumbled due to the warfare of two gods.

Those leftover lives seeking survival amid this Divine War must fully digitize their consciousness and upload it onto the fragmented network of the two gods.

Or rather, this was the true intent of those two Gods of Information.

They were exploiting this doomsday war to harvest faith, further enhancing their own status and divinity.

As one of the origins of this war,

David, out of necessity, could only upload his personality data onto every accessible public network, hoping to endure until the end of the Divine War.

Meanwhile, David's physical form in the real world was also transformed by the followers of the God of Machinery, completely discarding his original flesh and blood.

Even so, with the destruction of one personality backup after another, and the collapse of mechanical bodies one by one, David knew little time remained for him.

.........................................................

"Am I about to die?"

Residing in the fortress within the doomsday ruins, David, with much of his body destroyed, gently lowered his head.

In his hand, a slightly eerie paper crane flapped its wings, its entire form teetering between existence and nonexistence, as though it could depart this dimension at any moment.

At this very moment, David's optical camouflage skin could no longer conceal his form.

The muscular layer armor beneath the skin was in tatters, serving no protective function whatsoever.

Only the data hub at his chest still emitted a rainbow glow, supported by the Power Melting Furnace.

As the perfect fusion of biology and machinery, David's body, even if only a hub remained, could regenerate new mechanical and flesh tissue.

However, the problem now lies in that David's personality data has long been annihilated.

Without the assistance of additional personality backups, David's current corporeal form is destined to become an Autonomous Mechanical devoid of self-awareness.

In fact, similar scenarios occur in various corners of this world.

Because this is a data virus developed specifically with the intent to annihilate David's personality data.
