Hunter of Mysterious Creature

Chapter 158: C Zone

"Smack..." The fisher smacked his lips, "No wonder that Anglo-Saxon group moved ahead so smoothly... I thought this place was dangerous, but it turns out it's just a bluff?"

"No, don't let your guard down." Shino shook his head repeatedly, "Until we have a reasonable explanation for Yamata Orochi's abnormal behavior, I won't consider this a normal ruin."

"Normal or not, we'll see once we go in." The fisher pointed to the entrance of the ruins and said, "Look at these footprints, there are exactly two groups."

"Did they catch up with those Anglo-Saxons?" Huangfu Sha asked.

The fisher squatted down, touched the dust on the ground with his finger, and shook his head, "Probably not. The footprints of the two groups show a clear sequence, at least from where we are now, they haven't met up yet."

"Do you think the Anglo-Saxons will accept them?" Huangfu Sha asked again.

"It's hard to say. Given the selfish nature of those Anglo-Saxons, they certainly won't be happy to have someone share their cake," the fisher said. "But it's possible they need someone else to take risks for them... If that group is willing to 'listen', they still have some value..."

"But they're not idiots, they wouldn't just let the Anglo-Saxons exploit them, right?" Huangfu Sha said with a frown. "Personally, I hope some small conflict arises between the two groups. The more time they waste, the less time we waste in the woods."

"You're quite good at relativity." Sun Hang gave Huangfu Sha a thumbs-up. "In that case, let's not waste time. Let's go in."

Sun Hang took the lead this time, no longer hiding the liquid metal in his sleeves but instead forming two shields that floated around him.

"Wow, dude, you can use your ability like this?" The fisher, holding a short knife in one hand and a spear in the other, envied. "It's just like a cultivator who can wield objects in a novel—tsk, compared to you, I feel like a primitive man, lacking only an animal skin around my waist."

"It's not as strong as you think, there's a distance limit. These metal objects can't be too far away from me, or they'll lose control." Sun Hang said casually, "If I could really take someone's head with a flying sword from thousands of miles away like in a novel, I'd be invincible."

After speaking, he glanced at Huangfu Sha, who had just assembled a sniper rifle, and sneered, "My assessment is, not as good as bullets."

The four followed the path taken by the previous two groups of Hunters into the research facility ruins. According to the map provided by Dubhe Tower, this area was the C Zone of the second-phase expansion project of the facility. Originally planned as a residential area for the researchers' families, at the time of the accident, only one-third had been completed, with an occupancy rate of less than twenty percent. All around, there were piles of construction materials and rusted crane remains.

"All rough buildings," the fisher said as he walked, "It seems they were built with prefab slabs... were researchers' living conditions that poor in those days?"

"In those days, owning such a house was quite good," Shino said. "It's not like now, where even hunters have their own villas and are well-fed... back then, having meat at every meal was considered a wealthy household."

Sun Hang noticed that the walls of these street-facing rough houses, painted with lime, were all blackened by soot, and some wooden door frames and window frames showed clear signs of charring.

"Looks like there was a big fire here," Sun Hang said.

"Probably," Shino nodded, "Likely a secondary disaster caused by the accident back then... with the houses burned like this, there probably won't be any paper documents left, so I think we can quickly pass through this block."

"That's evidently what those people think too," the fisher said, looking at the footprints on the ground. "Most didn't stay here, only a few went into these houses for a look..."

Before the fisher finished speaking, Sun Hang, walking ahead, suddenly stopped.

"What's up, something wrong?" The fisher asked cautiously.

"Someone's still here, I can sense their presence, an infected person," Sun Hang said. "To our right, up from where we're standing, the third house, on the ground floor."

"Is it a Hunter?" The fisher asked again.

"Not sure... let's check it out," Sun Hang shook his head.

The four carefully walked forward, the door panel of the house with the infected person's presence was long burned away. Looking in through the open entrance, they faintly saw a figure kneeling on the ground.

"Something's off," the fisher whispered, "I feel something's off."

Sun Hang said nothing, he turned on his flashlight and pointed it at the figure.

It was a Hunter wearing the same combat uniform as them, though with short hair, the curves of the body from behind suggested it was a woman.

She was kneeling on the living room floor with her back to Sun Hang and the others, seemingly looking for something.

"What's she doing?" The fisher asked in confusion, "Her movements suggest she's searching for something, but the room is pitch black, not even a flashlight, can she really see?"

"You're focusing on the wrong point," Sun Hang whispered. "The most puzzling thing is... I've been pointing the flashlight directly at her, yet she doesn't even turn her head."

"Hiss... Now that you mention it, it's true," the fisher's neck broke out in goosebumps, "Could this person be already..."

"Can you sense her emotions?" Sun Hang asked Shino.

Shino shook his head, "Nothing, it's as calm as a dead lake."

"I'll go take a look, Sun Hang, hold this for me, if there's any abnormality, shoot without hesitation." Huangfu Sha, also a woman, handed her sniper rifle to Sun Hang, then drew a handgun and slowly entered the room, walking towards the female Hunter.

"Hey, hello," Huangfu Sha called, in as calm a voice as possible, "May I ask, what are you looking for?"

The other did not respond, nor did her actions stop, as if she hadn't heard Huangfu Sha's voice at all.

Huangfu Sha came closer, but just as she was five steps away from the female Hunter, the latter suddenly rose and crashed into Huangfu Sha's arms!

Only then did Sun Hang and the others notice, the female Hunter was clutching a blood-stained sickle, and what she was "searching" for was a bloody, mutilated human torso!

[P.S. My body is feeling better today. Yesterday, I received a lot of replies saying many people were sick too, probably another virus is going around. Everyone, please take care of yourselves.]
