Abyss Sequence

Chapter 30: Missing the Chance

It's been eleven days...

"Damn it! When is Yan Luo going to show up!"

Someone in the group was already shouting hysterically, while Svein remained silent, occasionally coughing.

They had been lingering near the Red Two Entrance, searching for traces of Yan Luo to intercept him.

However, eleven days had passed, and Yan Luo still hadn't appeared.

Everyone in the group was feeling irritable, and some even felt desperate, thinking that even getting scolded by the boss and having their pay docked would be better than idly waiting here.

Svein was in poor health; his wound hadn't fully healed and had become infected while he pursued Yan Luo into the Abyss. He hadn't gotten any proper rest during these days, and his wound was even festering.

Even after taking medicine, Svein continued to run a low-grade fever and gradually lost his appetite.

He felt that if this continued, he would die.

"Cough, cough, let's go back..." Svein said weakly.

He still harbored hatred toward Yan Luo; the vengeance for his severed hand had to be taken.

But if he didn't return for treatment soon, he'd be done for, let alone talk of revenge.

The captain spoke, and others breathed a sigh of relief.

They had long since wanted to leave the Abyss, but since Svein hadn't said anything, they had stayed.

Now that the captain finally spoke, they could follow his lead.

"Where to?"

Svein thought for a moment, "...to Crimson No.2! Let's rest a bit in Crimson No.2 before we return to Crimson No.3."

There was not a single word about Yan Luo or the task, indicating that Svein had given up on the mission their boss had assigned them.

The team members remained silent, tacitly agreeing to this.

There was no choice; Yan Luo was too cunning. Knowing someone might ambush him, he stayed hidden in the Abyss, never revealing himself.

No one wanted to stay in the Abyss any longer because they couldn't stray too far from the Red Two Entrance, lest they miss intercepting Yan Luo. They could only loiter near the entrance, spending the day looking at the dark forest around them and occasionally seeing moonlight filtering through the leaves, rarely even encountering a demon.

And Yan Luo?

Yan Luo could roam freely, venting his energy in the Abyss.

Helplessly, the Far Field Sword Squad had to abandon the mission their boss had given them.

Even if their salary were docked or their benefits reduced, it didn't matter—whoever wanted to stay in this wretched place, the Crimson Abyss, could do so!

The Far Field Sword Squad entered Crimson No.2 for resupply and rest, intermittently inquiring about Yan Luo's whereabouts but never finding that Yan Luo appeared in Crimson No.2.

Perhaps, maybe...Yan Luo was really dead this time.

The Far Field Sword Squad rested in Crimson No.2 for five days, during which they healed Svein's bacterial infection, and then they headed to the Abyss, preparing to return to Crimson No.3 through the Abyss.

However, just as their armored vehicle entered the checkpoint, a keen-eyed member of the Far Field Sword Squad spotted a familiar figure standing at the exit.

"Yan Luo!"

Svein, who had been resting with his eyes closed, was instantly startled awake, "Yan Luo? Where is Yan Luo?"

Svein immediately looked in the direction pointed by the team member, seeing Yan Luo chatting with the guard soldiers.

Yan Luo had already removed his exoskeleton helmet, allowing Svein to see his face.

That face...Svein would never forget it!

"—Ah!!"

Svein slammed his fist angrily on the car body, looking at Yan Luo with bloodshot eyes and gritted teeth.

How could this guy stay in the Abyss for so long? Just how much food did he bring?

So, when he was restocking food and ammunition at Crimson No.3, it was to engage them in a prolonged battle in the Abyss?

The Far Field Sword Squad members looked at each other, all turning their gaze toward Svein.

"Boss, should we still go back?"

The team member who asked referred to 'returning to Crimson No.3.'

Svein seemed not to hear, still staring intently at Yan Luo's figure.

After a while, he suddenly lost his energy, slumping weakly in the chair, and said with closed eyes, "Let's go back..."

Yan Luo had already returned to Crimson No.2; they couldn't kill anyone here.

Although their boss paid them well, it wasn't enough to make them consider murder in town.

Svein hated Yan Luo, but he also knew that attacking Yan Luo in town would mean certain death—and he didn't want to die yet.

Yan Luo glanced at the Far Field Sword Squad's armored vehicle, ignoring the malicious intent he sensed, and rode his motorcycle to the Hunter's Guild.

This time, the Abyss hunt was bountiful, and all the hunters should fetch about two or three million.

Most importantly, Yan Luo had obtained the piece of Jade.

As long as the Jade remained in his possession, the Abyssal Believers would definitely come for him.

Next, Yan Luo planned to focus on 'dealing with the Abyssal Believers.'

With these pests around, how could he accomplish the grand plan of 'eliminating the Abyss'?

On a personal level, the Abyssal Believers had murdered his parents, and he had to avenge them; publicly, the Abyssal Believers would undoubtedly obstruct him from eliminating the Abyss.

Therefore, the Abyssal Believers had to be wiped out, exterminated completely!

After handling his spoils at the Hunter's Guild, Yan Luo went straight home.

Soon after he got back, Sasa, responding to his summons, also arrived.

As soon as she entered, Sasa asked, "Yan Luo, what's the reason you wanted to see me?"

Yan Luo, who was removing his exoskeleton, pointed to the Space Box on the living room coffee table upon hearing Sasa's words.

Sasa walked over, opened the Space Box, and, with some curiosity, took out four things.

Two notebooks, a metal plate, and a piece of white jade.

"What are all these?" Sasa said as she casually picked up one of the notebooks to look through it.

Then, she froze.

"...Confirmed and suspected Abyssal Believers list." Sasa read the title of the notebook.

Did the world still have such a thing as 'Abyssal Believers'?

Sasa looked at Yan Luo, asking, "Is this what you've been away so long for?"

Yan Luo had been away from Crimson No.2 for nearly twenty days, and he rarely left for such a long time.

"Pretty much."

Yan Luo had Keke take away the exoskeleton, walked to the coffee table, and pointed to the items on the table, introducing them to Sasa.

"My parents had a teammate named Wen Chongwu. Nine years ago, a magic surge occurred that wiped out two-fifths of the hunters in Crimson No.2, including my parents. Some people suspected a conspiracy behind this magic surge, so they investigated, and Wen Chongwu was among them. After delving into it, Wen Chongwu discovered the existence of 'Abyssal Believers' in the world, and the severe casualties of the Crimson No.2 hunters during the magic surge were due to their conspiracy.

"Besides Wen Chongwu, several people were investigating this matter. Most of them disappeared, some were protected by people from the United Government, but some were killed by the Abyssal Believers. These things are the results of Wen Chongwu's investigation. Now that he's probably dead, I intend to carry on his legacy and eliminate the Abyssal Believers from society."

This was definitely something Yan Luo would do!

The existence of Abyssal Believers would surely hinder his goal of eliminating the Abyss. To eradicate the Abyss, Abyssal Believers must die.

Sasa nodded slightly and pointed to the metal plate and Jade beside her, "What about these two things?"

Yan Luo answered frankly, "I don't know about the metal plate, but the Jade, I've already tested it. It's an Engraving that can open a passage to another world."

Hm?

Sasa blinked, glanced at Yan Luo, then at the Jade, and said nothing.

Seeing her reaction, Yan Luo realized she didn't believe him.

No matter how convincing words are, they're not as good as seeing it with one's own eyes. Yan Luo turned to fetch a Magic Crystal, inserted a relatively large Magic Crystal into the Jade, and activated the Jade's Engraving.

The Jade vibrated in Yan Luo's hand, and he pointed the Jade forward.

Then, nothing happened.

"Is it broken?" Yan Luo was quite surprised.

If it broke after one use, why did the Abyssal Believers want to snatch it from him?

Sasa frowned. She was willing to believe Yan Luo because Yan Luo didn't usually lie.

Now that the Jade wasn't activated, aside from it being 'broken,' it could also be that the environment here wasn't suitable for activating the Jade.

"Isn't there a possibility that the Jade can only be activated within the Abyss?" Sasa proposed a theory, "After all, the Abyss is something that can transcend space."

Yan Luo nodded, "That's possible; let's test it again next time we enter the Abyss."
