Chapter 44: The Escape (Part 2)

"Go, go..."

Wang Lingyu didn't know why Yan Luo had to kill She Wuyou. By the time she saw the news broadcast, Yan Luo was already on the run.

However, she believed Yan Luo was not the kind of person who would kill indiscriminately. She Wuyou must have done something unforgivable.

What Wang Lingyu could do now was quietly cheer for Yan Luo, hoping he could break through the encirclement.

"Oh no!"

Just as Yan Luo was leaping, a police car suddenly collided with him, knocking Yan Luo down from mid-air.

Wang Lingyu was taken aback, but managed to suppress her shock and fear. Meanwhile, the classroom erupted with gasps from others.

She turned to find the source of the noise was a boy. More than half of the class was staring at him, even the professor on the podium.

The boy also noticed this, chuckled awkwardly, and quickly lowered his head.

The professor sighed, turned off the coursework display, and walked out of the classroom. "The second half of the class will be self-study."

Upon hearing this, Wang Lingyu hurriedly refocused on the news broadcast, seeing Yan Luo in a dangerous situation, reached out to hook onto a balcony of a high-rise residential building to slow his fall, preventing himself from hitting the ground directly.

Just when people thought Yan Luo would leap up again, they saw him release his grip and let his body fall towards the ground.

Bam!

Yan Luo's feet slammed into the ground without causing any harm to himself, and in the next second, he sprinted forward.

Seeing this scene, Wang Lingyu breathed a sigh of relief, and so did Han Shiyi sitting next to her.

The reason Yan Luo needed to land was because his destination was not far away.

Every city on Blue Star now had protective city walls; tall walls enclosed the city, with only a few gates for entry and exit.

It's impossible to leap over the walls, as the sky above the city is often covered by a protective shield. Not even insects can pass through.

To leave Lingquan City, one can only do so through the city gates.

The people at the command center also realized Yan Luo's target location and immediately issued orders to the soldiers at the checkpoint to close the city gates.

But Yan Luo's speed was 47 meters per second.

Like a maglev train racing along the ground, Yan Luo suddenly dashed to the city gate, slipping through the gap before the gate closed completely, and reached outside the city.

"Open the gates! Open the gates!"

Realizing Yan Luo escaped using the closing gate, the commanders at the command center shouted frantically.

Before the gate was fully closed, it was opened again.

Police cars drove out from the city gate, but the riot drones had to stay within the city, unable to chase, instead, the live broadcast drones followed to capture more footage before the signal completely cut out.

Outside the city lay a desolate wilderness, leaving those who had lived in the city their whole lives and rarely had a chance to venture out feeling inexplicably shocked at the sight.

"Hurry, hurry, charge forward!"

An armed news van followed the police cars out of the city, with a reporter in the passenger seat yelling frantically, "This is the kind of news you encounter only once in twenty... no, fifty years! We have to follow to the end!"

There is no signal in the wilderness, but they can film Yan Luo's entire escape process, and edit and upload the video once they reach an area with a signal.

If they could capture the entire process, they would undoubtedly win this year's most sensational news award!

It's true there are mutated creatures in the wilderness, but the news van is armed, and they are following behind the police cars, so there's no need to worry about mutated creature attacks.

There was nothing in the wilderness that could provide Yan Luo temporary shelter. He could only constantly watch out for bullets flying from behind and dodge them with his reflexes.

The police chasing Yan Luo were getting anxious because their barrage of bullets was as if they were spraying water, with only a few bullets managing to hit Yan Luo's body.

Even after being hit, Yan Luo was not hindered at all and could even spare the attention to dig out the bullets from his wounds with his hand.

What on earth is this?

Is he still human?

Engravers, without activating their Engravings, could still be considered as ordinary humans, perhaps just a bit stronger physically and better at combat skills. Aside from that, they were entirely human.

But Yan Luo was different. The extraordinary power he possessed acted directly on his body.

Even though he didn't have the strange abilities of Engravers, he seemed even less human than them.

Can a human, after being shot, remain completely unaffected in speed and even dig out the bullet themselves from the wound?

Impossible!

Thick forests began to appear in front, and Yan Luo plunged inside, his figure instantly disappearing within the dense forest.

But the police hesitated, as their cars were unsuitable for the terrain, and they had never received training for jungle combat.

Yan Luo was a Hunter, likely skilled in fighting in such an environment. Would they be able to capture Yan Luo after rushing inside?

[You all stand down, leave the rest to us.]

At this moment, a signal came through the onboard radio, allowing many police officers to breathe a sigh of relief.

The signal source was from an armored vehicle, and surrounding that vehicle were several others, protecting the one transmitting the signal.

Lingquan City had two main armed forces, one being the police, and the other the garrison.

Compared to the police, the garrison wielded more formidable firepower and had undergone wilderness combat training.

The police cars all turned back, but the armed news van did not retreat and tried to negotiate with the military vehicles.

Regardless of how they sent signals, it seemed like stone sinking into the sea, with no response.

After thinking for a moment, the reporter gritted his teeth and pointed forward, "Forget it, follow them!"

Even though it seemed like a reckless pursuit of a news award, the reporter did not want to give up on the news of the year so easily.

If they could report the entire event, it would undoubtedly become the year's top story.

Yan Luo was unaware of what was happening behind him; he just kept sprinting forward.

Even upon entering the forest, Yan Luo's speed showed no signs of slowing, and branches that grazed his body could only tear his clothes and could not damage his skin.

Therefore, although Yan Luo's clothes were in tatters, making him look miserable, he was, in fact, uninjured.

The armored convoy drove onto the road connecting Lingquan City and Crimson No.2, with the news van following closely behind. The reporter no longer dared to urge haste, as the military vehicles were ahead, and if civilians like them collided with the convoy, obstructing their mission, the military had the right to prosecute them upon returning to the city, and they would undoubtedly lose.

Unable to film Yan Luo or the convoy, the news van could only record the surrounding environment and later add narration during editing to explain the situation to the audience.

The journey from Lingquan City to Crimson No.2 was very 'long' for city dwellers. Driving for several hours was entirely unacceptable, and they also had to avoid rough roads while enduring attacks from mutated creatures.

The people in the news van had broadened their horizons. They hadn't expected outside the city to be so perilous, and it was no wonder that, during their school days, the few daring classmates who ventured outside the city never returned.

Approaching Crimson No.2, the armored convoy connected to the network of Crimson No.2 and immediately sent a notification to the garrison there, asking for their help in capturing Yan Luo.

Yan Luo's public murder in Lingquan City was egregious, and if he resisted, higher-ups permitted them to use vehicle-mounted cannons against Yan Luo.

Receiving the notification, the garrison at Crimson No.2 replied to the armored convoy, indicating they would cooperate fully in capturing Yan Luo.

After sending the message, the communications soldier turned to ask his superior, "Do we... really need to help capture Yan Luo?"

The garrison leader had a cigarette between his lips, moved it with a twitch of his mouth, then revealed a sinister smile, "Like hell, we just need to put on a show! Who here doesn't know what kind of person Yan Luo is? He's a man of principle, and this might not even be his fault!"

"Coordinate with them; I'll contact Chairman Wu and see what to do next."

Should they protect Yan Luo, or capture him?
