Reborn as the Failed Lord with my Resource Gathering System.

Chapter 118: Hunting down unknown wanted.

Later that night, Seraphina and Maria were sleeping on the bed, naked, hugging the blanket close to their exposed skin.

Their soft breaths echoed, a smile etched on their faces as memories of the beautiful sex they had with Dorian played in their heads, even though they were asleep.

Standing close to the window, with his back resting on the wall, Dorian stood with his arms folded.

He had been looking over the girls as they were sleeping, a smile also on his face when he noticed how innocent they looked.

'After draining me dry, she fell right to sleep. I feel used.'

He slowly opened his eyes, turning his gaze beyond the window, allowing the moonlight to bask on his skin.

'I should be getting information from Lili any time soon,' he continued. 'Normally I would take Seraphina and Maria with me, but I don't intend to stress them tonight. This is something I can handle on my own.'

With a single leap, he stood on the frame of the window, watching the entirety of the barony from where he stood.

He could see the villages scattered far and wide across the land. Many were small, but only a few truly stood out.

Since Dorian's resource-gathering skill was still active, he could visibly see the light leading him towards the bigger villages, many of whom were gathered in a single village.

'It's pretty smart if you think about it. The best place to run an illegal business is in a place no one would expect to look, and a failed barony, far away from the capital, is the perfect place to start.'

Thinking about it, his father had once tried to borrow money from the Forgriam barony during his debt-ridden days. The baron flat-out rejected him, but according to James, it was because they lacked the funds to do so.

'So how did they suddenly get rich off the bat? Not to sound ignorant, but I doubt many can get their hands on dragon ores, or any high-quality resources, without some kind of attention. Foriam is absolutely unknown and deserted.'

Dorian sighed, resting his arm on the frame.

'Well, that's not my main concern, though. I already made up my mind the moment I heard it was elves being used as slaves.' He glared. 'How dare they use such a dignified and peaceful race for their lust and greed?!'

"Master, there you are!" Lili's voice suddenly snapped him from his thoughts.

He raised his head and saw Lili hovering right in front of him in her bat form.

"I bring news," she announced proudly, her eyes closed with a smile.

A smile Dorian mirrored as well, only his was rather subtle. "I expected no less from you. Okay, let me hear it."

"It is just as you said. There are lots of hidden prisons scattered across the villages, underground and even inside ruins-"

"Ruins? They have that here?"

"Yes they do. Is that a problem, Master?"

"Nah, keep going," Dorian grinned, as though he had just landed on a jackpot.

Then Lili pressed on with her report.

"We found a total of ten. All nine were prison yards for the elves imprisoned there. Males, females, and even children. But only one was inaccessible; we knew where it was, but getting in was impossible—we needed some kind of pass."

Dorian listened then glanced to the side.

'If the other nine were warehouses for the elves, then the last one has to be where all the bidding and so on happens. Yeah, it's no wonder they didn't find it easy to get access. I expected the soldiers to struggle a bit, but not Lili.' His eyes glowed a bit. 'The fact she can't get in further proves that it's a sketchy place for the elite, I can imagine.'

Sigh.

"Lili, the secured area—did you see anyone exit the vicinity during your search? Could be on foot or by carriage; it doesn't really matter."

Lili placed a finger on her cheeks as she looked to the side, humming in thought.

"Yes, I did see a bunch of people, but their faces were covered in these weird masks, and they always disappeared the moment they entered the alleyway close to that place."

'Disappeared? A hidden path, or mana teleportation magic? A Mage is in their midst? Strange, you would normally not see Mages doing stuff like this due to their strict moral conduct.'

Dorian couldn't help but sigh again.

The more he learned, the more it was clear that the Forgriam barony was indeed guilty of the elf slave trade.

"Lili, we are heading there now."

"Eh? Right now?"

"Yes, hurry up."

With a single leap, Dorian fell to the ground, only for his body to hover back up as he immediately took flight and zoomed forward.

Thanks to his initiate title of Dragon Monarch, he was able to use the power of flight bestowed by dragons.

Only because of this was he able to fly with such speed and proficiency. Following right behind Dorian and struggling to catch up to his speed was Lili, her small wings flapping frantically.

Soon, they arrived at the exact spot of the venue.

Perched atop an uncompleted building, Dorian and Lili watched from above as a single man suddenly approached the building right in front of them.

It was a dilapidated structure, its stone walls crumbling in places and its wooden roof sagging precariously.

No windows marred its rough exterior, giving it the appearance of a tomb rather than a functional building.

A single, heavy-looking oak door, reinforced with rusted iron bands, was the only entrance.

It sat amidst a cluster of equally run-down shacks, but unlike them, an eerie silence hung around it, a stark contrast to the distant sounds of the bustling, larger villages.

The man, cloaked and hooded, approached the heavy door. He glanced around furtively, his head swiveling as if ensuring no one was watching.

Then, with a gloved hand, he reached inside his cloak and pulled out a small, ornate key.

He inserted it into a hidden keyhole that Dorian, with his enhanced vision, could barely make out near the doorframe.

A soft click echoed, barely audible, and a small section of the wall beside the door slid inward, revealing a shimmering, almost ethereal pattern of runes etched onto the stone beneath.

The man touched one of the glowing runes, and the air around it rippled before the heavy door creaked open, revealing only darkness within.

He slipped inside, and the door swung shut behind him with a soft thud, the section of the wall sliding back into place as if nothing had ever been there.

Though Lili could not hear, Dorian could make out most of what was happening behind the closed door, since the man had not walked too far away.

"Mr. William? You came here last week as well."

"Why are you asking me such strange questions? Don't tell me today's game has been called off."

"I'm afraid so. The headmaster didn't arrive today, something about getting his head straight, but he promised to be here tomorrow, so that should be something."

'No event tonight. How many elves do they have if this is something they are doing nightly? Then again, this explains why everyone was coming and leaving; the game was canceled. Good. This is my chance.' Dorian glared, his eyes glowing.

'The moment this imbecile leaves the building, I'll ambush him and snatch the key from him.'
