Chapter 244: Sword Pointed at Qilin Mountain

Chen Guan's team had been hunting high-level Secret Spirits north of the Yellow Springs River, nearing Qilin Mountain.

"There's probably not many high-level Secret Spirits left here. Time is running out, and the Red Cavalry should be arriving soon. We need to head back," Chen Guan calculated the time and decided to lead the team back.

The team members were a bit regretful, as they had gained more benefits in these days than they had in two or three years with the Celestial Court Army. Who wouldn't want more resources and money?

However, with Chen Guan's command given, no one dared to object, and the team promptly set off back to the south of the Yellow Springs River.

After nearly a month of madness, Chen Guan's level had finally reached level 12, and his spiritual power had hit 2048—a terrifying figure for a cultivator.

Yet Chen Guan still felt it wasn't enough; his skills consumed too much primordial energy.

Rouge was level 15, Ghost Eye level 14, and Paperman still at level 9, unable to undergo Second Awakening.

Chen Guan's main skills: Blood Hand Seal level 14, Underworld Emperor's Sword level 14, Senluo Ghost Step level 5, Azure Heaven Dominating Body level 7, Profound Nether Yin Fire Palm level 8, Pupil Light level 8, Blood Sacrifice Feeding Magic level 6, Blood and Qi are Fierce level 6, and the rest are all level 1.

Pupil Light leveled up the fastest; as long as it was kept active, it would continuously level up whenever anyone's gaze fell upon him.

Blood Sacrifice and Blood Qi Secret Skills leveled at nearly the same speed, as Chen Guan would often practice them casually, speeding up the level increase.

The combat power of a level 6 Blood Demon Spirit was quite impressive, comparable to an Unparalleled Secret Spirit of the same level and even surpassing it in some aspects.

Upon reaching level 12, Chen Guan noticeably felt the increased difficulty of leveling up.

After returning to the southern bank, Chen Guan rejoined the Black Rider Main Army with his team.

Before returning, Chen Guan instructed all team members to withdraw their pets and switch to the standard Night Glowing Lion Horse mounts.

Outside, he could lead his troops as he wished, but returning to the corps, if his team continued to stand out, others would feel he was disrespecting Ji Nanhong, the Corps Commander, which would put Ji Nanhong in a difficult position, and Chen Guan would never do that.

But the team members had gotten used to the previous mode, and changing back to the ordinary Night Glowing Lion Horse mounts without being able to summon their pets to assist in battle felt awkward and uncomfortable.

This led to Chen Guan's team appearing somewhat awkward when coordinating with other teams in the corps.

In the eyes of others, Chen Guan's team often had some issues. Although they weren't major, their coordination wasn't as seamless as between other teams.

Ji Nanhong didn't say anything but was contemplating how to improve Chen Guan's command skills and capability.

Chen Guan was the closest person to her future, not only as a Vanguard Officer but needing Chen Guan to stand on a higher level facing future challenges with her.

Among other teams, there were still some opinions about Chen Guan, as his team members appeared listless during battles. Despite not making any mistakes during joint actions, they looked odd, unsettling people, feeling their attitude seemed problematic and not particularly positive.

Chen Guan knew the problem. His soldiers were used to the high-intensity battle of killing high-level Secret Spirits and were usually accustomed to pet co-combat.

Suddenly not using pets, and having to kill Secret Spirits that barely retaliated, they were temporarily unadjusted, which was understandable.

It's not that they weren't engaged, but this intensity was too simple and boring for them.

Someone who drives without going under 120 km/h, drifting on bends, is suddenly required to only drive at 40 km/h. Such excessive idleness is also understandable, they'll get used to it.

A few days later, news arrived from the main army that Qilin Mountain had been captured, urging Black Cavalry and Red Cavalry to expedite the cleanup and move to Qilin Mountain.

Xiu Haofeng and Ji Nanhong led their teams toward Qilin Mountain, speeding up the cleanup process.

By the time they reached the base of Qilin Mountain, parts of the main army had already begun retreating, and the Secret Spirits at Qilin Mountain had been mostly cleared.

The retreating units were those originally belonging to the Blazing Fire Corps and consisted of the Third Awakening Cultivators.

The remaining troops were moved in from outside and would be the foundation of the future new corps and military base, stationed here under the new corps.

These Third Awakening Cultivators mainly came from three places: some were transferred from various Beimang Mountain corps, led by Deputy Commander Zhang Yujian.

Another group consisted of young people transferred from the Celestial Court Guard Army, led by Deputy Commander Bai Yueguang.

The remaining group belonged to a Celestial Court Army elite corps, nearly wiped out in a secret realm city defense battle months ago, losing almost all but a few people, their unit numbers sealed. These members were dispatched to the Qilin Mountain Range.

These old soldiers from the Black Tiger Corps numbered only about ten, led by Deputy Commander Zhu Hongzhi.

As the Black Cavalry and Red Cavalry arrived at the base of Qilin Mountain, Lin Yushen and these three deputy commanders stood on the hillside, observing the advancing troops.

"Their momentum and appearance are impressive. It seems these two teams haven't wasted their month," Lin Yushen said with a smile.

Zhang Yujian and the others felt mixed emotions, as one of the leaders of these new troops might be their future superior.

Zhang Yujian's personality was unlikable, and he lacked connections, so he was transferred here.

Bai Yueguang offended someone in the Celestial Court Guard and was practically exiled here.

Zhu Hongzhi had no choice. If given an option, he'd rather stay in the secret realm rebuilding the Black Tiger Corps.

Anyway, these three were all troublemakers, and none of them were easy to deal with.

Zhang Yujian glanced over, casually saying, "They look decent on the surface."

Bai Yueguang took a look without any change in expression, merely commenting, "A bit unruly."

Zhu Hongzhi remained silent, but the disdain in his eyes was evident to everyone.

Still, nobody felt Zhu Hongzhi was at fault, as the Black Tiger Corps, with a single corps driving back a tide of millions of Secret Spirits for almost half a month, fought until only around ten remained, yet stood firm, safeguarding the city's gates until reinforcements arrived.

With just this achievement, the Black Tiger Corps earned the Celestial Court Army's respect. Being unimpressed by the new recruits was understandable.

Lin Yushen smiled without speaking, as he wouldn't be staying here, and these troublemakers wouldn't be under his authority. Naturally, he had no reason to interfere.

Whoever ended up as the commander of this new corps could handle the headache then.
