" Why don't I prepare you a hot bath dear, It shouldn't take me long." said Miss Finley.
" I'm sorry Aunty but maybe next time." Melinda chuckled, politely refusing Miss Finley's kind proposition." I better get going now Aunty. It's gotten too late already."
" It's ok dear, I wouldn't want your children to start worrying if they wake up without their mother by their side." Miss Finley chuckled before leading Melinda to the door.
" Make sure to bring those two younglings over when your free. Goodnight my dear, And do be careful on your way back home." Miss Finley watched Melinda walk off from her door step.
" I promise I will Aunty, goodnight." Melinda waved goodbye before heading back to her home.
She was slow at first but, after Miss Finley had headed inside, she hurried her steps, feeling that it was too dangerous to dawdle at the moment.
Melinda soon arrived home, she closed the door behind her before rushing over to her husband. She breathed a sigh of relief when she noticed he was still alive.
" It's ok darling, everything will be alright... So please get better." Melinda caressed her husband's face, her eyes filled with love and heartache.
" It should work like this, right?" She said as she picked up one high grade mana stone before placing it on one of the dark chains.
The high grade mana stone suddenly began to lose its luster at a rapid pace, in less than a few seconds, the glowing high grade mana stone, was reduced to nothing, completely absorbed without a trace.
" It's working!–" Melinda let out a yelp of shock but clasped her mouth due to her loud voice.
She was silent for awhile, checking if she had awakened the children. She didn't want them to see her father in such a state.
' Looks like they're still asleep, thank the gods' She let out a breath of relief when she heard nothing, meaning Sal and Mel, were still slumbering.
' The high grade mana stones are more potent than I thought.' Melinda's demeanor brightened.
Though it was for a brief moment, she had seen the dim glowing gabs in-between his scales, glow brighter for a short moment, moreover, some injuries on his body had stopped bleeding, though the recovery was nearly non existent.
" Let's try a few more, it'll definitely work, it has to work." Melinda's voice sounded desperate as she placed mana stone after mana stone on the black chains, like the previous one, they were all rapidly absorbed without a trace.
Yet even after using the last mana stone, Melinda's eyes turned moist because the mana stones had only stopped his bleeding and closed up his wounds yet he still didn't show any signs of waking up.
" That was the last one..." Melinda's expression turned hopeless. " I used up every last one and he's still not completely healed." Melinda sobbed, the sound of her light sniffles filling the room.
" .. mhmm"
"..?!!" Melinda's heart skipped a beat when she heard a nearly inaudible groan escape her husband's lips.
She stared sternly for awhile before gasping when he groaned once more. Seeing this, she was sure the mana stones had helped him recover more than she thought, at least now it looked like he was able to heal himself, though a bit slowly.
Melinda unconsciously stared at her savings chest at the side before a look of determination filled her eyes.
" Don't worry darling, tomorrow I'll head into town to pawn and exchange my savings for mana stones, I won't let you suffer like this." She gently caressed her husband's face, her soft fingers gently tracing his scales and horn's.
Melinda then brought some sheets and cloth from upstairs, she decided she would sleep next to him tonight. Though the sheets and clothes couldn't block out the coldness of the floor, entirely, she still remained firm on her decision and lay'd next to Su Ping.
" Goodnight honey..." Melinda kissed him on the lips before snuggling next to his body and falling asleep.
The next day, just before the break of dawn, she woke up and got ready. Melinda knew she couldn't hide it from them so she brought her children to see their sleeping father. They were excited to hear that their father had returned from his supposed "business trip".
" Mommy is daddy going to be ok?" Sal who stood Infront of his mother, turned to meet her gaze.
" Mommy why isn't daddy moving." Mel tilted her head to the side confused. Her and her brother wanted to play with him after hearing he had returned but they didn't know what to do, seeing their father laying still on the ground.
" It's ok, Your father is just sleeping. His mission this time really did a number on him but he should be fine with a days worth of rest, ok." Melinda patted both their heads to ease the strangeness.
Melinda sighed in relief recalling that she had already cleaned of the blood stains in the room and the fact that she had wiped off the stains on her husband as well, if not, she was sure her children would've been more than frightened to see their father looking like he did. With all his external injuries closed up, now she just needed to help him speed up his internal recovery to avoid any lasting hidden injuries.
" Enough about your father... Wanna know what mommy has planned for you two today." Melinda lifted them both into her arms while playfully nuzzling her face on both their tummies.
" Mommy that tickles hehehe" Mel and Sal laughed, their mother's tickling slowly shifting away their focus from their father.
" Mommy's going to head into town for a bit to buy some things, in the meantime, I want you both to stay with Aunty Finley till I get back."
" Into town?" Sal blinked, surprised.
" Mommy why are you going into town." Mel's gaze turned curious.
" And why do we have to stay at Aunty Finley? Can't we just stay home with daddy?" Sal suddenly said.
