" Only a demon would've been cruel enough to hunt down those poor children."

" It's because of them that Lucinda and Lucius were forced to flee the village!"

" Bastard demon, It must've wanted to kill poor little Lucinda because she was a Dark mage." said a crazy looking old woman as she shook her fist's in anger at the two children in the fire.

Dark mages could potentially sign a contract with a demon or enslave them as well if capable enough so the old lady's words weren't unfounded.

One by one, the villagers voiced their opinions while watching as the fire blazed on, growing more and more chaotic with time.

Jack and Rugard stood some distance away on top of a village building, silently watching the ongoing pandemonium.

" Looks like we were right, there really is a demon here.. or there was anyway."

" Judging from the demonic aura around the house, it seems the demon must've been gravely injured. If only we'd been here a moment sooner, maybe we could've salvaged it's remains." Jack massaged his temple's while glancing at the blazing flames with a look of pity.

" And where do you think your going." Jack suddenly glanced at Rugard from the corner of his eyes. Who was walking towards the edge of the roof.

" Don't tell me your planning on saving her?"

" They're kids in danger." Rugard spoke through gritted teeth.

" Do I look blind to you. Of course I can see that but that doesn't answer my question. Can't you see that huge fire?"

" And when has a fire that little ever been able to stop me?" Rugard turned towards his associate who only shook his head with a look of helplessness.

" That's not what I'm saying. It's obvious you want to go there and save her don't you." Jack said with a sigh, seeing Rugard turn silent, he only sighed as he glanced at the children in the fire, his dark pupils eerie calm. " I think it's best you let them burn."

" Before you reject my idea, just think about it. Wouldn't it be better to rush to her aid then kill all the villagers afterward."

Jack shrugged his shoulders and walked up to Rugard before placing a hand on his shoulder.

" It's not hard for me to see how you keep looking at her. Taking her along wouldn't hinder us but taking those extra baggages, will." Jack said with a sigh. The instant he noticed his partners fondness towards that woman, he knew it would only spell trouble for them.

Being fugitives, it was only a matter of time before they would be caught if they continued to stay in Lion heart Kingdom.

He wanted nothing more than for them to gather enough money and lay low but, caring for a mother and two children, would definitely increase their chances of getting caught.

Rugard furrowed his brows, his face creasing up while he contemplated Jacks suggestion.

CREAK..CREAK...

Mel and Sal heard the unstable sounds of shaking wood, the children turned behind them only for a part of the roof to drop Infront of them, kicking up scorching embers and even more smoke. They both screamed in fear but the creaking sounds continued.

Melinda almost went insane from being tortured like this, she even began hitting the young man holding her, scratching, clawing at him like a feral animal but her struggles only made the young man smile even more.

The villagers all watched with anticipation as the creaking grew more and more audible, Mel and Sal's screams grew louder as the front part of the house shook more and more, embers and ashes falling down.

" Help us Momy!"

" Mommy! Help us!" Their screams reached its peak but the front part of the house slowly leaned outwards before falling down.

Rugards conflicted expression broke, he instantly turned around and bolted towards the blazing building with incredible speed but, several skeleton arms enshrouded in dark magic suddenly burst from the buildings roof and tried grabbing at him.

" Rugard get back here." Jack gritted his teeth, his body emanating a dark aura.

Rugards eyes squinted coldly, the skeleton arms were quick but they couldn't grab him due to his superb agility, easily avoiding the skeleton hands yet, when he reached the edge of the roof.

" Summon undead: Tier 2 Wandering wraith" Jack casted a summoning spell and a spectral entity emerged out of thin air Infront of Rugard.

The undead was swift, summoning a dark scythe and slashing at Rugard but he avoided it by leaping backwards the instant it attacked. The scythe slash cleanly sliced off a huge portion of the roof that fell down with an audible thud.

" Stop being stubborn and just do as i say!" Jack gnashed his teeth, feeling that his friend was more stubborn than usual today.

BAM!!!!

The flames rose even higher when the burning wall of rubble came crashing down. Melinda's heart wrenching scream turned into a shrill cry that caused the villagers to wince in pain, covering their ears. Rugards eyes twitched, a trace of anxiousness on his face hearing Melinda's pained cry.

" You bitch! Stop that!" Even the young man couldn't bear it and kicked her away.

"..?!" Melinda's pupils dilated as she came falling face first towards the fire, as she watched the blazing flames grow closer and closer, Melinda's terrified, grief stricken expression, slowly turned into a look of acceptance.

Rugards pupils dilated, at the same time a huge burst of dark magical power surged from his body.

" Instant death magic: deaths gaze!" Rugards eyes turned pitch black with wisp's of gray leaking out, glaring at the wandering wraith.

The wraith screamed in pain and instantly burst apart but Rugard didn't even wait for his death, already speeding towards the blazing flames, crossing tens of meters in the blink of an eye.

A smile of anguish bloomed on Melinda's face, her tears evapora

ting as she landed in the flames to accept her death. She didn't want to be left all alone.
