Eternal Thief

Chapter 1515: Trial of Sin! (3)

At that moment, Ace's breathing was ragged, but he forced his soul to circulate primordial spirit Qi. Each cycle felt like climbing a mountain of lead, but slowly, faintly, he pushed back.

Furthermore, as if responding to his undelaying will, suddenly, the chains above him flickered in mystical light and thereafter, three profound glyphs ignited in his mind!

Ace was startled by this unexpected turn of events, as he knew those glyphs were something he had never seen before.

However, one of them seems extremely familiar as the pressure on his mind seems to have lifted a little.

The moment his mind became slightly clear, a meticulous change happened within him as he felt the glyphs' meanings resonate with the Law of Evil Sin!

'They are the…mystic abilities of the Law of Sloth!' Ace instantly understood, as he had already grasped one of the mystic abilities of the seven sin laws.

One of the glyphs was the first mystic ability of the Law of Sloth he comprehended.

'So, this ability is called the Shackles of Stillness?' Once focused, everything became clear as he gained more insights in the Shackles of Stillness, 'This power can halt momentum, freezing movement not with space, but with Sloth.

'The second ability is called… the Drowse of the Soul, which can impose lethargy, dragging the spirit into stillness and silence.

'And finally, the third mystic Ability Everlasting Rest, which instills a devouring stillness that erases vitality and force until nothing remains but decay…'

Ace's eyes glowed brilliantly as he wasn't expecting he would comprehend all the mystic abilities of the Sloth Law in this fashion, not to mention all three of them were extremely dreadful.

Furthermore, he can feel the Law of Evil Sin has become stronger and complete.

It was a bizarre phenomenon Ace had never encountered before, for he had never thought that, despite comprehending such a powerful law, there would still be so many complex steps to achieve complete mastery over it.

Moreover, the moment he comprehended those abilities, the strange pressure on him started to lessen, and Ace suddenly got insight into how to overcome this peculiar yet terrifying trial.

However, sensing the change in him, and without giving him more chance to think…the Trial suddenly changed!

From the cracked ground, figures rose—countless shadowy beasts, each dripping with killing intent. Yet the moment they came near, they slowed. Their bodies dragged like statues in mud, their claws barely lifting, their strikes falling sluggishly.

It wasn't their weakness. It was the law of this place. Sloth bound everything.

At that moment, Ace understood, 'If I want to survive, I have to master the abilities granted…is that what this trial is about? To overcome the Sloth within oneself and then use it as a tool?'

Ace was only making assumptions based on his personal experiences, and to put them to the test, he lifted his hand, and a profound aura seemed to resonate with the trial…

"Shackles of Stillness!"

A profound law intent flowed from his palm, turning into ribbons of emerald law coiled out, binding the shadows mid-step, freezing them utterly as if their existence itself had been arrested.

'It's working!' Ace was elated, and without hesitation, with little effort, he invoked, "Drowse of the Soul!"

Thereafter, a wave rippled outward, and the shadows collapsed in droves, their movements halting as if they had chosen to sleep.

Finally, the surrounding air shifted again, but Ace realized that this ability he was going to use seemed to have required a considerable amount of primordial spirit!

Although his primordial spirit Qi was incredibly potent, and he could use it to cast spells and mystic abilities far above his current cultivation realm, a third mystic ability of a law was something only a Quasi-Ascension Grand Lord could evoke!

However, Ace now knew that if he wanted to complete this trial, he had to use it no matter what, so without holding back, Ace went all out, channeling all of his primordial spirit Qi into this mystic ability!

'Shit! It's still not enough!' Ace's expression paled as he could feel that it was still slightly off, and then he thought about something he had never tried before.

'Should I try using force to compensate for the lack of spirit Qi?'

Ace knows Force and Qi were two different concepts and not something that could be merged, and it might cause him harm if he even tried it, but he also knew that Force can be used like Qi to evoke laws.

However, using law with Force makes them slightly different, so if he used both Qi and Force to use a mystic ability of law, he wasn't sure what kind of change it would bring.

Furthermore, a strange instinct was completely against this idea. After hesitating for a moment, Ace abandoned the idea because he was uncertain about the outcome and didn't want to risk his safety, especially in such a perilous place.

At that moment, instead of taking this gamble, Ace played it safe and bought a Qi recovery pill from the system and swallowed it!

His exhausted primordial spirit Qi instantly rose like a tidal wave, and he channeled it all to evoke the final ability of the Sloth Law!

At that moment, Ace was shocked because the ability was invoked, yet it completely drained him to the bone again.

Yet he didn't have time to care about it as he roared, "Everlasting Rest!"

Thereby, a black-green aura spread like fog, and where it touched the shadows, they withered. Their claws crumbled, their forms decayed, their essences dissolved into dust.

Ace witnessed the scene in shock, as he hadn't expected the third mystic ability of a law to be so terrifying.

At that moment, the wasteland trembled, and the colossal chains above groaned and split, falling into nothingness.

Ace fell to his knees, panting heavily. But in his soul, something had changed.

The law of Sloth no longer seems foreign and has become a part of him, etched into the Sin Law itself.

"…I see now," Ace murmured, his voice slightly hoarse, "Sloth isn't weakness. It's the power to make the world itself falter, to bring everything to stillness. A weapon of negation."

At that moment, the Trial's voice rang once more, solemn and implacable…

"You have passed the Trial of Sloth. One sin, three abilities. Remember—seven sins complete the Law."

The wasteland dissolved. The crystal plane returned. The seven pillars still towered, but now the emerald pillar was dim, its glyph absorbed into Ace's soul.

Ace stood, his breath steadying, eyes burning.

"So… that's how it is." His lips curled faintly as he looked at the remaining six brightly lit pillars, "To pass this place, I'll have to comprehend the mystic abilities of every sin. All seven!"
