Dark Magus Returns

Chapter 1669: Play Defensive (Part 2)

The Noble land had been created.

Along the river that split Centreal City in two, a massive wall now stood, tall and imposing, cutting across the landscape and making it unmistakably clear where one side ended and the other began. It wasn't just a boundary of stone and earth; it was a declaration. The division was absolute, leaving no room for confusion as to which land belonged to whom.

Within the Noble land itself, a large palace-like structure had been erected near the center. Its shape was grand and deliberate, rising above the surrounding buildings as a focal point of power. Toward the back of the land, another wall had also been raised, sealing the territory in further and reinforcing the sense that this was not merely a settlement, but a fortified domain.

This construction was not achieved through simple Earth magic alone. The mages working on the walls were clearly in the process of reinforcing them, layering powerful enchanted objects into the structure itself. These objects glowed faintly as they were embedded, strengthening the walls beyond ordinary means. Hardened metal and stone fused together, creating a defense that would not easily be breached.

Across the Noble land, numerous structures had been constructed for members of the Noble Guild to use. Unlike the city that once stood there, nearly all of the skyscrapers had been completely removed. The towering buildings that had defined Centreal City's skyline were gone, replaced with lower, sturdier constructions.

It almost felt like a return to an older world. The layout and design resembled structures more familiar to Pagna rather than modern Alterian cities. The land felt purposeful, built for control and defense rather than comfort or spectacle.

Only the finer details were still being completed. Enchanted objects and crystals were being placed throughout the streets and around the houses, providing light without the need for conventional systems. These glowing crystals illuminated the land evenly, casting a constant, unnatural brightness across every path and building.

Finally, there were the towers.

Tall, solid structures rose high into the air, their bases thick and reinforced, while their tops were left open. Within each tower, enchanted objects were being installed, allowing massive beast crystals to float at their centers. The crystals pulsed slowly with power, radiating energy outward.

It was clear these towers were designed not only for defense, but also for offense. They stood like silent sentinels, watching over the Noble land, ready to strike if needed. This was the new Noble land in its completed form.

"All of the guild leaders and governors gathered here today," Idore announced calmly. "I am in a good mood, so I am giving you a second chance."

His words echoed through the area, heavy with authority.

"For those who have not joined or are not part of the Noble land, this is the only day you will be allowed to set foot here. You will be given safe passage to the north side of the city."

There was tension in the air as the people listened, unsure how to react.

"Once in a while," Idore continued, "I will send out a representative to approach you and ask once again if you wish to join the Noble land."

No one knew what state Alterian would be in after this. Fear hung over the world like a shadow. Would people be too afraid to fight each other now, knowing what power the Noble Guild possessed?

Or would weaker countries and lands see this as an opportunity to act, forced into conflict that would leave them no choice but to seek refuge within the Noble land?

The uncertainty was suffocating.

Without warning, Trubin raised his hand. In an instant, every flying recording object hovering above the area was destroyed. Screens across the world went dark as the broadcast was cut off.

The world had already seen everything it needed to see, and Idore clearly didn't care what conclusions they drew.

Back in the apartment, the group sat in stunned silence, trying to process everything that had just happened. The room felt heavier, as if the weight of the Noble land itself had reached them even from across the river.

"He's playing defensive?" Alen asked finally. "What do you mean by that?"

"The Grand Magus have been killed one after the other," Raze replied. His voice was steady, but there was a seriousness behind it. "They were extremely powerful, but they still lived among society. That gave us openings, weaknesses we could exploit."

The others listened closely.

"Now Idore has removed those weaknesses. He knows we will come after him. He knows I have the power to take down those on the level of the Grand Magus."

Raze gestured toward the distant land.

"So he created a territory filled with the strongest mages. Towers. Walls. A land where everyone and everything is under his direct control."

As Raze spoke, it became clearer to all of them. What stood across the river wasn't just a new state—it was a fortress.

In many ways, it felt like a massive version of the Dark Guild had been created. The scale was far greater, and the power concentrated there was beyond anything they had faced before.

Alen walked toward the apartment window. From the north side of the city, he could see the Noble land in the distance. The wall. The towers. The palace. All of it was real.

"This really happened," Alen said quietly. "I don't know what will happen to Alterian now. I imagine people are terrified."

"This man doesn't care how much blood is spilled," B added. "Even from here, I can sense the blood that was destroyed."

She turned slightly toward Raze.

"You knew this, didn't you?"

"Knew what?" Liam asked, glancing between them. "It almost sounds like you're accusing him."

"No," B replied calmly. "I just mean that out of all the Grand Magus, these two were always going to be the most difficult."

Raze didn't deny it.

"I knew," he admitted. "I knew he might be the most dangerous. I tried to stop something like this from happening."

He clenched his fist slightly.

"But it's too late now. The only thing we can do is what we planned from the beginning."

His gaze hardened.

"To kill the last two Grand Magus. Fortress or no fortress."
