The next day.
[PSYCHOSIS -1]
[PSYCHOSIS LEVEL: 132/150]
Siderius spent the next day making a set of leather armor for Ashe. With the original measurements, he didn't need to acquire them again and just used them for the armor pieces.
Ashe was smaller than him so the entire armor set cost only one and a half ghoul skins.
Ashe tried on her full set of armor. She couldn't hide her smile and kept grinning from ear to ear throughout the process.
"Well, how do you feel?" Siderius said.
"Perfect, Master! You did everything perfectly as always!"
Ashe felt the weight on her body. It was a little uncomfortable in the beginning but she quickly got used to it.
When they finished everything, night had also fallen.
"It's time to visit some old friends, Ashe." Siderius said.
"Old friends? Who, Master?"
"The miners in the Rocky Pit. Aren't you curious what has happened to Carsten, Nadia, and the rest of them?"
Ashe nodded grimly.
"But it will be difficult to get in, Master. The Rocky Pit isn't what it used to be. It is much stricter now and the Bailiff has put his guards in it to watch over the miners.
Kraus tried many times but the guards didn't even let him in even with a silver coin."
"No worry, my apprentice. If they stop us, we simply kill them all."
Ashe shivered gently because of that thought. She still remembered the blood bath Siderius had caused simply with his sword. Now he had a full set of ghoul armor, she couldn't imagine how strong he actually was now.
They left the underground hideout and climbed on Red to get to the Rocky Pit.
With a steed, they quickly got to the Rocky Pit in less than half an hour.
The place had changed. Its gate was closed shut and there were four guards standing in front with poleaxes in their hands.
"Cover your face." Siderius said to Ashe as he pulled the black scarf up.
Ashe didn't have a scarf but a black bandana instead. She pulled it up to cover her lower face.
Siderius didn't slow down, he controlled Red to run straight at the gate.
"Stop right there! Who are you?!"
Siderius stopped at the gate. His eyes assessed the guards.
Skinny, off-balance stance. Old weapons. These weren't warriors. They were commoners with a title.
Siderius gestured for Ashe to get down. Then he jumped down as well.
"I am Siderius Satterblade, the White Witch of Scalize. Move away!" Siderius shouted with pride, pretending like a high noble.
He hated the White Witch title but it was useful.
The guards looked at each other. They were repulsed by the title but still didn't back down.
"It is our honor to meet you, my lord! But the Bailiff has ordered us to keep this place secured. No one…"
As the guard was talking, Siderius grabbed Blazing Soul. He flipped the fire switch over then drew the blade with blinding speed.
The blade drew a fan of orange flame and dark smoke in the air. Its sizzling noise echoed loudly.
The guards repulsed back. They raised their poleaxes quickly. Cold ran down their spines.
Siderius put his sword back in.
"What were you saying?" Siderius said.
"I…" The guard gulped then moved away. The others followed him.
"Open the gate!"
Siderius walked inside with Ashe.
"Do we need to keep an eye on them? What if they report this to the Bailiff?" Ashe whispered to her Master.
Siderius chuckled gently. "An unawakened witch is far from capable of harming your Master."
A witchling could hold the title of a Baron. That was Jude.
Bailiff, the leader of small towns like Mucktown, didn't require any rank at all. They could simply be a witch and would be granted the title.
Witches were much rarer than humans. A witch that awakened successfully and survived their coming-of-age ritual would desire more than a small town could provide.
Siderius had already learned that the Bailiff was an unaware witch. He could face off with a witchling like Jude and Caterina. There was no reason for him to be afraid of the Bailiff.
With the departure of the Starcrow witches, Siderius became the sky of Mucktown. He was the strongest individual here.
When Siderius and Ashe entered, no miners were seen. All of them had disappeared. The only people there were the guards of Mucktown.
A guard with a big physique approached Siderius and Ashe. He saw the high-quality clothing and armor and knew right away that they were special. The guard didn't dare to be arrogant.
"I am Geofon. May I ask what your business here is?"
Siderius looked over to Geofon. His golden eyes with vertical slits illuminated in the night. The place was rather dark so to compensate, the pupils expanded , granting Siderius' his night vision back.
Geofon saw everything and his body froze mid-step. Then he immediately knelt down, head lowering deep.
"Greetings, high lord! How can I be of service?"
"Very good instinct. Better than your boys outside." Siderius said.
Geofon sweated profusely. "Did they offend you, my lord?"
"No. Fortunately, they only did as they were told. Where are all the miners?"
Geofon sweated further. "Why do you ask, my lord?"
"I did ask you a question, didn't I? I expect an answer. Not another question."
"Please excuse me, my lord! The miners are underground."
"Lead me to them."
"Yes, my lord!"
Geofon led the pair away, in front of the eyes of the onlookers. The guards didn't dare to stare publicly, only throwing a glance here and there.
"Do you see those armor? They look pristine. Must have caught a fortune!"
"That lord has white hair… Where did I hear about white hair before? Right! One of my relatives in Scalize told me about the White Witch!"
"Is the girl behind also a high lord? She has a bow on her back, how weird…"
"You think that's weird? That lord has two scabbards on his waist but only one sword. High lords want to do anything nowadays. They don't even know the basics of swordsmanship."
"Shhh! Shut your goddamn mouth! Do you want us to get killed?!"
Geofon fumbled with the keys as he opened the iron door leading to the mine beneath. This door wasn't here the last time.
Geofon looked back to Siderius. "They're down there, my lord."
"Lead the way."
"Yes, my lord!"
Geofon led Siderius and Ashe down the bottomless mine. The path seemed to be endless as they went further and further down.
Then they arrived at where the miners were.
