The hivemind is conquering for me?

Chapter 540: "Like A Fable Of Old"

He opened his eyes. Pain was the first thing he felt, forcing him to giggle. 'Not surprising, I should be minced.' The pain was not to be sunk into, no. This was to be celebrated. He was alive.

He recalled that monster charging at him. His black weaponry. Untested. A gamble. If he was alive, then that meant he had managed to do the impossible. His weaponry had managed to do something even the Seer couldn't.

"I am a genius." A shit eating grin emerged on the Plipits face before he scrunched his eyes in pain. He really shouldn't move. "Ah, you are finally awake? How fortunate I have arrived just as you are coherent instead of just 'awake.' Fate is funny like that."

The voice was like a song in his ears, nothing was more beautiful to him. "My Seer." Cor'voth spoke eagerly. He then proceeded to wince before continuing. "I am pleased to see your features have returned to you. As awe inspiring as you were on Bastion, I prefer the beauty of your being as you are now."

Aeletha looked down on the Plipit before her. She would excuse the blatant flirting today, he was still on death's door after all. "I have postponed all your interviews for the next week. The scavenging rats certainly want their scraps, they can't even let a war hero rest"

Cor'voth smiled weakly. "So we did it? We won the battle?" Aeletha could feel the swelling of pride in the little creature's body, but she would speak the truth. "Your weapon, it blew a hole straight through the colossus' torso. Created a gigantic crater from the sheer power of it as it travelled. The creature was down. And then a moment later it wasn't. Your attack destroyed my array, it drained my power and I could not react fast enough. It struck me."

Cor'voth's eyes went wide in shock. The only reason he was not panicked was the fact his Seer was before him. "The creature had an unprecedented healing factor. It flattened me like a bug, I lost my leg and every bone in my body was destroyed. We lost the world."

Cor'voth gulped, the action itself agony, but he was holding back tears. "All those soldiers... How. How are you here if you were on the brink of death?" Aeletha chuckled softly, catching Cor'voth off guard. "A human."

'A human?' Cor'voth thought to himself. He didn't recall the enlistment to go to the humans. They are still mostly untrusted within the coalition, due to the barbarians they hail from in the galactic east, but he also knew how squishy humans were. How could one human save his Seer from the brink of death?'

Aeletha knew exactly what the Plipit was thinking and started. "He descended from the sky, like from a fable of old, crashing into the ground between me and the beast that had taunted me and was coming to finish me off... I still don't understand his powers, but he has something over the hunger. This advantage... He descended onto the planet and the being that threw a wrench into my plans became stunned in fear... It was fear as well, something that the hunger has never shown in all our engagements. They fight to the last and even then, those disgusting aberrations that skulk off into the wilderness pester us for months afterwards like its all they know. But that thing... It was scared of him..."

Cor'voth noticed how the Seers eyes were looking up towards the ceiling, he disregarded his ignorance about her ability to see, she was blind, but she clearly could see more than anyone. It was ironic that everyone else seemed blind to this fact. There was a deep respect within her gaze, something he had never seen her give to anyone before.

"And he was not scared of it in the slightest. He looked at it trivially, even joking about its height after landing... I had left by the time he engaged with it, but it was barely minutes later when the reporter showed him beating the things skull in. He was a Spartari Archon. He had come alone to offer his aid. It was his bravery that allowed us to retreat from the world and fortify the next, but even after we fully lost the world and the rear guard stopped responding, the hunger did not come for us. In fact, there hasn't been a sighting in our space since."

Cor'voth felt sombre. He did generally look down on humans. They were incredibly cunning, which made them prone to backstabbing. Made perfectly apparent by their constant infighting within their noble structure. They were their own worst enemy.

But still, for someone to push aside years of hate to come to the aid of an enemy's planet... Cor'voth would watch this video the Seer mentioned and remember the man's sacrifice for them. It was because of that man he was most likely alive and not in the belly of some overgrown insect.

"I am still not sure how he survived and escaped Bastion as every single ship we had was used during evacuation, but he did and-""-Wait! He survived aah!" Cor'voth shouted in shock, promptly followed by a loud snapping noise as he tried to move.

Aeletha moved towards the bed that was her neck height and used her graceful finger to push Cor'voth gently back down onto the bed, preventing him from moving. "Yes, he survived. In fact, he is the second reason I am here on Calnivis. We will talk again once you are better."

Aeletha then promptly left, her obligation done. She was glad that Cor'voth was alive. He was a genius and was smitten with her. That in itself was useful, but now. She had a mundane task to accomplish that left a smile upon her face. Sure, she was honour bound to repay her life debt, but that didn't mean she disliked doing something this trivial. By the Galaxy! She even acted like tech support for the man. If he was foolish enough not to ask for something extravagant, she would take advantage and have her conscience wiped clean...

Still, she knew that wouldn't be the end of it. Even though she still had yet to choose which of the two paths to take, they were still currently travelling in the same direction. That all but guaranteed that they would interact more in the future.

Aeletha felt a rush in her chest at the prospect. She really still was not entirely sure why, but just thinking about the Archon. It left her feeling strange. Sure she knew one of the reasons. He did save her life, which had a biological effect in almost every species of the coalition, but it was more than that. Fate had put them on a path together. The fact they were both on the now horridly named Decima, the visions that now cloud her days, the simple conversation last night where he held no regard for her godhood. The rush only continued to grow.

Aeletha shooed away her clouded thoughts as she left the hospital. Using her foresight, she planned the most effective way through the crowd of reporters and evaded those bold enough to risk losing their life to cup a feel.

As she entered her vehicle, she turned to Rekosh. "You could have used that big body of yours and provided me a hand with all those scavengers instead of sitting in this vehicle." Rekosh turned hastily, shock written upon his face, he was about to apologise for his transgression only to see the Seer showing her teeth as she smiled.

"Relax, Rekosh. I ordered you to remain in the vehicle and you did. I was simply teasing you. Now, let's go." Aeletha said before closing her eyes to have a moment's rest. Rekosh looked at the side frame of his Seer for a moment in shock. He pulled on one of his scales to make sure he wasn't drugged and his mental faculties were about him.

'D-Did she just tease me?' Rekosh wasn't happy about this one bit, in fact he was scared. This was bizarre, usually his Seer just yells at him and-

"Rekosh! I was in a good mood and felt slightly playful! Grrr. Just get us to the Archive." She growled, not something she usually does, as she didn't have the physical traits of other Star forged.

Rekosh was scared again, only for a different reason this time. He had angered his Seer to the point of her showing a side of her culture she does not usually show... Rekosh needed a moment.

"Rekosh, get in the back, you are changing the future too much and it's giving me a migraine. I am flying us there." Aeletha scolded sternly. "But, my Seer, I-"

"Rekosh If I hear one more word out of you before we get to this Archive, I am pulling off your strength and feeding it to you. Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth?" Yes? Good. Now, get in the back."
