Unholy Player

Chapter 388: Tough Decision

The Spark's name was Stellamar, an aqua-type assigned to the Ignis Path, and the notes described a build that blended attack and movement.

Among its abilities, one in particular drew his focus, a skill capable of calling a tsunami; the thought of its power made him pause, and the details confirmed it was strong enough to drown an entire kingdom in the Outer Region with a single strike.

A skill that could create a small sea. Adyr considered it in silence, feeling the weight of it fully in his mind.

There was, however, a problem with its sustenance. It required an ocean matching its native scale, and not a still one, since it fed on active ocean currents.

Adyr's Sanctuary had grown quite large, yet it still did not have enough space for an ocean of that size.

In this respect, Sszhar was a perfect Spark, since it fed on the void itself, where stillness exists. With its Rift Maw skill, it could open a pocket dimension and reside there with its massive body, living self-sustained, and it would also pose no space problem for the Sanctuary.

Of course, this was a temporary solution. Keeping a pocket dimension active would require constant energy expenditure, and it still needed a proper void dimension to be maintained over the long term.

If Adyr intended to hold it indefinitely, he would need to create a suitable emptiness inside the Sanctuary. For now, it would have to manage by using its own skill until Adyr found a permanent solution.

Believing the other Sparks would be no weaker than this and perhaps would have feeding requirements he could actually meet, he shifted his focus to the next entry.

The screen responded to his thought, changing to reveal a new image and fresh lines of information before him.

Are all Rank 4 Sparks enormous? Adyr studied the new Spark in silence.

So far, all the Rank 4 Sparks he had seen or encountered were massive in size. He still didn't know whether that was the norm at this rank or if there was a specific reason for it.

He had always thought his Nimbus Land was so big, with so many empty areas that would be hard to fill, but that belief was beginning to look naive now.

As the question came and went, he turned his attention to the screen and saw that this one was named Montar, with a body that resembled a colossal mountain.

It looked entirely like an ordinary mountain, with a stony structure, trees and greenery climbing its slopes, and even the suggestion of its own ecosystem. If he had seen it anywhere else, he would have assumed it was only a mountain, never a living being.

It belonged to the Astra Path, and its most notable ability was a gravity-field skill.

Beyond that, it had another potential skill he might acquire after the subjugation procedure, an ability called Mountain Strength, which allowed one to increase muscular power massively.

Adyr quite liked it, although there was no certainty which skill he would receive after subduing it, so he remained undecided.

Rank 4 Sparks carried four skills, and it was always difficult to know which one would be granted, unlike Rank 3 and below, where predictions were usually possible.

Even so, both skills were appealing, and this Spark was easy to sustain.

He could simply place it on one of the islands in his Sanctuary and leave it there, since it fed on the air itself.

If he ringed it with the wind-generation waters he had looted from the Legacy Domain, which were still stored in plastic containers inside his Nimbus Land, he could create an excellent habitat.

The best part was that this Spark was an ecosystem on its own and could become a home for other Sparks suited to mountain life.

He made a note to return to it later and moved on to the remaining six Sparks.

The others were also impressive and just as massive. Some had skills he liked but came with very difficult feeding requirements, while others were easy to sustain but offered abilities that would not serve his plans.

He continued until the last entry, where one eyebrow lifted slightly as he looked at it.

"Looks like you found something that caught your interest," the Wanderer Merchant said with a smile, not missing the small reaction.

"All are good Sparks. I simply cannot decide," Adyr answered without giving anything away, while he studied the Spark that had drawn his attention.

Its name was Citadelith, and its body looked like a castle.

In scale, it rivaled a fortress keep with a footprint of roughly 40 by 60 meters, with walls as broad as streets and towers that would dwarf a cathedral's spire.

With weathered stone, twin flanking towers, and slender minarets, and a roof of black tiles, it resembled a structure from a haunted tale, abandoned and cold.

Fitting its appearance, it was a Nether Path Spark, and the most striking feature for Adyr was that it fed on fear.

Having the bloodline talent Malice, Adyr could produce limitless, refined fear, making it a perfect source for feeding.

Its other standout feature was a skill that allowed the user to bind the Spark to their body and soul, redirecting any damage they took into the structure.

In practice, by using the Spark's skill, Adyr could bind it to himself and redirect all harm taken by his physical body, his soul, and his mind directly into the Spark, which would grant him the practical equivalent of a second life.

Of course, it would be useful only as long as the Spark could withstand the damage taken, and afterward it would need to heal before the skill could be used again.

That, though, worked to Adyr's advantage, since he had the Grace bloodline talent, a perfect match for the Spark.

The only problem is I'm not sure Grace can heal this building. Adyr's logic kicked back in, telling him that, by ordinary reasoning, it might be impossible.

Because it was a Spark like Sszhar, which Adyr could heal with Grace, this one should also have been healable by the same means.

Another possible skill he could gain after subduing it was defensive as well, though not as strong as the damage-transfer one.

It let him summon stone walls as durable as the Spark itself, which he could use to stop or shield against incoming attacks.

Used wisely, it was even more versatile: the walls could trap or confuse an enemy, provide shelter when needed, and serve many other purposes depending on the user's imagination.

I can also use this as an environment for other Sparks. As Adyr thought more and more, its advantages began to win him over.

Like Montar's mountain habitat, this was a vast castle, able to house Sparks that prefer dark, gloomy spaces—like his Duskrend, the bat, still residing inside the handmade cave.

For the first time in his two lifetimes, Adyr found himself in the middle of indecision, a crossroads where cold blood and analytical thinking fell short and where imagination and creativity were required.

I should have played more video games and read more webnovels, he thought with a touch of regret.
