Apocalypse: Last Traveler

Chapter 270: The Nonexistent Third Enemy

The three from Jiangbei seemed to think the same. After leaving the icy sea, they hit the shore and ran another stretch. Realizing Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei were still trailing behind, they suddenly stopped.

"Let's have another round with them here."

The woman abruptly turned around, her eyes full of hate as she glared at the rapidly approaching Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei. Through gritted teeth, she said, "They deliberately lured us onto the ice. They seem proficient at fighting on ice and even arranged for their Type C companion there in advance.

"Now they dare to overextend themselves, coming after us here alone without their companion! If they want to die, it's their own fault!"

"Makes sense."

The long-legged man also stopped and turned, echoing in agreement.

The person wrapped in the quilt on his back was breathing heavily. After taking three hits and moving so fast, the pressure on him was significant.

But the situation was urgent, and he couldn't afford to ease up, forcing himself to suppress his panting and saying, "You decide what to do."

Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei were drawing nearer and would be in front of them in the next moment.

The woman said, "Old rule applies, without the Type C Neo-Human, they're nothing!"

"Makes sense!"

This time, it was the Type C Neo-Human inside the quilt who spoke.

As soon as he finished speaking, the smell of sweat on his body permeated through the quilt and overflowed.

The long-legged man and woman's eyes turned red, ready to confront the two Type A Neo-Humans who had been weakened by the Type C Neo-Human.

"Boom!"

Fists and feet collided, the impact was astounding, as before.

The long-legged man and woman were stunned. How could these two still exert such force without a Type C Neo-Human behind them?!

But the situation did not allow the two to be shocked for long. Unlike the ice, there were plenty of places underfoot here to stabilize oneself and avoid being slipped away.

After the four engaged, they soon tangled together, no longer leaving room for a round-by-round adjustment.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Fists and feet intertwined, continuously pounding.

The long-legged woman and man were shocked to find that once engaged, the two before them seemed even harder to handle.

Every punch and kick received was so precise and rhythmic, blocking all their attacks, and each move targeted their vital spots, making it increasingly difficult for them to deal with.

Especially the long-legged man, who had to divert attention to care for his back, cautiously preventing this stunning and terrifying woman from landing her strikes on the quilt behind him.

What kind of monsters were these two?!

No... what kind of monster trio were they?!

The people in front of them exceeded their understanding. In their view, for Type A Neo-Humans to exhibit such powerful combat capability, there must be a Type C Neo-Human behind them.

That Type C Neo-Human surely must have been brought along from the ice by these two Type A Neo-Humans.

Perhaps that person was very small, a dwarf, which was why they couldn't find them.

—This was the only explanation the Jiangbei trio could think of.

"Why are you so strong on solid ground but still lured us onto the ice?!"

The long-legged woman forced herself to receive the attacks, furiously questioning.

Lu Xi'an replied, "Sorry, I didn't think about it either."

He truly hadn't thought about it.

Initially, he thought he and Yao Wei had specifically trained for combat under difficult conditions, and in a unique environment like ice, they might be able to maximize their advantage over their opponents.

But who knew that outside the ice, on normal ground, he and Yao Wei would display even greater combat strength.

Once engaged in combat, each move was fierce and swift; there was no need to think about each move, leaving it to instinct, just like when training with Yao Wei before.

Facing the enemy and each of their attacks, his body would naturally respond.

Moreover, he and Yao Wei trained repeatedly according to the methods described in the Institute 923 booklet, adjusting every detail of their actions. When they attacked, they could instinctively bring out their full potential.

In such a short time of fighting, he and Yao Wei could evenly match the Type A Neo-Humans boosted by the Type C Neo-Human.

And over time, the advantage became theirs instead.

Each attack and each block was the most suitable use of their bodies, keeping them in optimal condition during prolonged combat.

This was completely different from those two Type A Neo-Humans, who relied on the pheromones of the Type C Neo-Human to forcefully enhance and overdraw themselves.

Their faces darkened with anger, but they were helpless.

The long-legged man started to feel overwhelmed and couldn't help but shout, "Duan, think of something, restrict them somehow!"

The man in the quilt on his back was the one he called "Duan."

Duan was being tossed around amid their high-speed combat, feeling dizzy like on a roller coaster. Fortunately, he had been specially trained for such situations and had gotten used to it; otherwise, speaking would have been challenging at this moment.

"I tried everything! It's not working! Their Type C must be stronger than me—I can't control them!"

Even now, he still believed that there was a Type C Neo-Human behind Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei.

And the two Type A Neo-Humans thought so as well.

"Find them! Quickly, find where they're hiding someone!"

He shouted from within the quilt, "They caught up so fast; the Type C must be on them!"

As soon as the words were spoken, the woman who had been sparring with Lu Xi'an but failed to gain the upper hand suddenly glanced at Yao Wei.

Yao Wei was wearing that old red leather jacket, which was somewhat large and didn't quite fit. At this moment, her movements were too quick, causing the leather jacket to billow, making her look bulging.

It must be on her!

The long-legged woman was certain in her heart that it must be on her, hidden in the clothes, bound to her body!

Apart from that, there was no other place on these two people where one could hide someone.

Nevertheless, even so, this Type C Neo-Human is really quite petite!

The woman thought.

She truly didn't know the word "miniature"; otherwise, she would definitely have used "miniature" to describe it.

She quickly retracted her gaze to avoid being noticed by Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei.

The plan was successful. They had fallen into a disadvantage, and if her discovery and intentions were caught by the two, how would she succeed?

"Duan! Get it for me!"

While parrying a move from Lu Xi'an and adjusting her posture for a better chance to strike Yao Wei, the woman suddenly shouted.

The trio had long been well-coordinated, and the long-legged man carrying "Duan" on his back understood what was needed once the woman called.

At that moment, the woman underwent a transformation. Her skin turned purplish-red, her eyes protruded and filled with blood, veins bulged.

Her speed suddenly increased, her hand forming a blade as she aimed for Yao Wei.

She held back slightly with this move, ready to change it at any moment.

Having faced Yao Wei before, she knew that with this move, Yao Wei was most likely able to dodge or counter it.

But Yao Wei probably wouldn't think that her goal was the other person hiding on Yao Wei.

After the brief clash and observation, she had gathered some understanding of Yao Wei's movement habits.

She was almost certain that as long as Yao Wei reacted, whether to counter or dodge, the person hidden on her would not be able to escape the subsequent change of move.

"Whoosh—"

The hand blade slashed, bringing a sharp, piercing whistle, as if tearing through the air.

Yao Wei sidestepped, dodging the attack.

She indeed dodged!

The woman was exuberant, immediately changing her technique, her other hand forming a hand blade, like a spinning windmill, in relay, slashing upwards at Yao Wei's bulging jacket.

The motion seemed as if Yao Wei's bulging jacket was about to meet the slightly raised hand blade of the woman.

"Thud—"

Yao Wei sidestepped, but the jacket could not avoid the woman's hand blade and got slashed.

—Of course, Yao Wei hadn't intended to dodge.

She instead felt puzzled as to why this woman seemed oddly fixated on her jacket.

Was this jacket really that nice?

If so, she should cherish it more in the future.

All these thoughts flashed through Yao Wei's mind.

As the woman slashed the jacket, her expression changed repeatedly, from initial exuberance, to shock, then disbelief, ending with her face turning pale in horror, as she quickly looked back to see Lu Xi'an closing in and kicking her in the waist.

"Ugh—"

The woman's body folded and flew sideways.

"Boom!"

There was a low hill in the distance.

Lu Xi'an's kick was so heavy that it sent the woman crashing into the low hill, creating a deep pit and embedding her in it.

The long-legged man retreated abruptly, looked back, and instantly lost all fighting spirit, shouting, "Duan, get it for me!"

From the blanket on the man's back came Duan's voice: "I know!"

The next moment, the long-legged man's face also turned purplish-red, veins bulging.

Yet he had no intention of confronting Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei further, and simply ran off, and in a blink of an eye, was a hundred meters away.

Such speed likely had his survival instinct boosting it, making it many times faster than before.

Lu Xi'an said to Yao Wei, "Stay here, I'll chase him for a bit."

Then he started the pursuit.

However, he was merely bluffing to intimidate that man.

At such speed, it was practically a life-or-death chase that neither Lu Xi'an nor Yao Wei could realistically pursue.

Tracking him down would likely lead to a long chase, and if Jiangbei had other Neo-Humans to assist, pursuing would risk entrapment?

Instead of chasing, it might be better to scare them, making them flee faster and farther, so they and Yao Wei can depart quickly.

As soon as he chased them, that figure ahead sped away even faster, soon disappearing from his sight. At that moment, he turned back and returned swiftly.
