The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 469: Thousand Star Heavenly Gate Formation

Thirty-Three Layered Heaven, Sun Wukong stood with his hands clasped behind his back, watching the Barrier in the sky.

Sweet dew scattered across the sky, glittering brilliantly. Different from before, it began to feather away from the Barrier, leaving nothing by the time it reached down to the Thirty-Three Layered Heaven.

The Barrier was about to hatch, and no one could stop it.

In a few decades, the Three Realms would be revealed amidst Chaos.

Too many puzzles entwined Sun Wukong's heart, leaving him somewhat lost in thought.

"How could this be."

Sun Wukong hadn't expected that even after becoming the Heavenly Emperor, he still couldn't be omnipotent.

There wasn't much time left, and everyone was anxiously burning with urgency.

He had to work even harder.

Sun Wukong turned around.

"Are you going to cultivate again, younger brother?"

Immortal Zhenyuan had appeared behind him at some unknown time.

Sun Wukong nodded: "There is still much I lack."

"You're already sufficient."

Immortal Zhenyuan sighed: "It is the Three Realms that cannot keep up with you."

He knew that Sun Wukong held hope for all living beings, yet continuing like this, the ultimate pressure of the great catastrophe would again fall onto him.

Immortal Zhenyuan no longer wanted to witness such a scene.

"You've taken on too much."

Immortal Zhenyuan said: "You should rest a while."

"No one can afford to rest."

Sun Wukong shook his head; every time he closed his eyes, he would remember countless people plummeting from the heavens.

Now he understood clearly, that was the great catastrophe.

"Must we eventually walk down that path?"

Sun Wukong pondered within, then said to Immortal Zhenyuan: "I may withstand the tide, but the impact of the great catastrophe will be a million times stronger."

There was no reason for him to rest.

Immortal Zhenyuan's expression darkened.

Sun Wukong stepped forward, leaving the Heavenly Palace.

Immortal Zhenyuan watched his departing figure.

"Qing Yuanzi, do you understand now?"

He suddenly spoke.

"Understand what?"

Someone asked from within his sleeve.

"The Three Realms can't rely solely on our younger brother."

Immortal Zhenyuan replied: "If we cannot keep up with our younger brother, we will one day regret it, yet the people of the world have not seen this."

"What can I do then?"

Qing Yuanzi asked.

"...Tell more stories."

Immortal Zhenyuan answered: "You have the gift of the Good Path; you surely can propel change within the Three Realms."

Qing Yuanzi was silent: "I don't quite understand."

Immortal Zhenyuan sighed: "Then tell more of our younger brother's stories."

Qing Yuanzi agreed.

When it came to storytelling, he was better than anyone else.

Sun Wukong returned to Langya Blessed Land once again.

He sat cross-legged at the base, seated for half a year, exuding Immortal Energy from within himself, vast and magnificent.

A lithophyte flower took root by his side, bloomed swiftly, then withered, transforming into several flowers, blooming and wilting, endlessly cycling, an eternal round of life and death.

Unbeknownst to him, a sea of flowers formed around Sun Wukong.

He opened his eyes, enlightened.

"Is the ultimate goal of the Heavenly Dao life?"

He looked at the radiance blooming from himself; his Immortal Energy underwent some changes while he cultivated here.

The dazzling golden light acquired silvery stars — the essence of life.

"No wonder Houtu is so interested in this place."

Sun Wukong thought, this was the power to create all things.

But he didn't know whether such power was good or bad for him — he certainly didn't wish to make others pregnant with a mere touch.

He concealed the light, spending a few more days deciphering the Totems above.

This was also a form of Cultivation.

Sun Wukong had a vague feeling that the Totems above might unravel some of his questions.

The more he looked at those Totems, the more ancient and weathered they felt, but several days passed, and he still hadn't uncovered much.

Sun Wukong, left with no choice, returned to Huaguo Mountain.

The Immortals had not wasted any time.

After half a year, they had deepened many methods to counter the great catastrophe.

"This is the Thousand Star Heavenly Gate Formation."

Immortal Zhenyuan introduced a Sword Array to Sun Wukong: "It can gather the strength of a million people, simulate the effects of sweet dew, and create a myriad of ever-changing Barriers."

Using the Sword Array to pool the strength of many was one of the directions the Immortals had been researching, to withstand the great catastrophe.

The prototype of the Thousand Star Heavenly Gate Formation was the Twelve Heavenly Gate Array, which is the first Array among the forty-nine of the Taoist lineage. The Taoist could plant twelve small sticks in the ground and create a constantly changing Array; those ignorant of its secrets would have their fate entirely controlled by the master of the Array.

However, the Thousand Star Heavenly Gate Formation didn't target its interior; it simply utilized some principles of the Twelve Heavenly Gate Array to unite the scattered strength of people, forming a perfect shield.

Immortal Zhenyuan gathered two hundred from the Asura Clan to demonstrate the Thousand Star Heavenly Gate Formation to Sun Wukong.

The Asuras rose into the air, wielding swords as they hovered; then in unison, they initiated the Sword Array, shining in multicolored radiance, forming a rainbow-hued lake flowing across the sky.

"It really suits your style."

Sun Wukong couldn't help saying.

Watching that transparent, dreamlike lake, he felt somewhat relieved.

"I can feel its attributes changing."

He said.

Sun Wukong was surprised the Immortals had found a way to evolve sweet dew, though still immature, the main direction was correct.

"How did you find this power?"

He asked.

"The Heavenly Dao you created is filled with possibilities."

Immortal Zhenyuan sighed: "Sadly, it took tens of thousands to achieve this."

Sun Wukong was startled, feeling a bit joyful.

He then asked, "Is it only the Asura Clan that can use it?"

"Of course not, but this Sword Array is rather difficult to master."

Immortal Zhenyuan said: "Only the Asura Clan can handle it in a short time."

The Asura Clan are natural warriors, and it's effortless for them to learn these collective Force Sword Arrays.
