The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 34: Just Go Chase the Sun

"It's impossible!"

The old Giant burst into laughter upon hearing Immortal Zhenyuan's words: "The sun travels ten thousand miles a day, how could you possibly catch up with it? Even if you did, it would roast you into a dried husk."

"Travels ten thousand miles a day?"

Immortal Zhenyuan sneered: "A sun that all you mortals can catch up to, how could I possibly not?"

"Immortal."

Sun Wukong stopped him from further provocation and said to the old Giant: "Tell us about the Herbal Medicine, we will go find it."

The old Giant was displeased with Immortal Zhenyuan's attitude but still took out a bamboo slip and handed it over to Sun Wukong.

"This contains the Herbal Medicine our Clan Leader needs."

The old Giant spoke.

Sun Wukong flipped through the bamboo slip briefly; he was familiar with the Herbal Medicines listed within, which also existed in the Three Realms, but he was surprised by their potency here.

The same Herbal Medicines had different effects here than in the Three Realms.

"Leave it to us."

Sun Wukong finished speaking and showed the bamboo slip to Immortal Zhenyuan.

Immortal Zhenyuan wasn't much less knowledgeable about Herbal Medicine than Sun Wukong. With one glance, he memorized the Herbal Medicines they needed.

"I thought it was something formidable; it's just some common Herbal Medicine."

Immortal Zhenyuan said.

The old Giant shook his head: "These common things are not easy to find anymore."

After the sun disappeared, the entire Northern Wilderness was shrouded in darkness and ice, making these common Herbal Medicines extremely rare.

"This White Dragon knows where there is Herbal Medicine, it will help guide you."

The old Giant handed the White Dragon over to them.

Sun Wukong and Immortal Zhenyuan then said goodbye to the old Giant and left the area inhabited by the Kua Fu clan.

"How did you make peace with them?"

Along the way, Immortal Zhenyuan curiously looked at the White Dragon and asked: "Wasn't your wife kidnapped?"

"I made an agreement with that old Giant, as long as Kua Fu is healed, they will set my wife free."

The White Dragon answered.

Immortal Zhenyuan was then at ease.

Leaving the area inhabited by the Kua Fu clan, Sun Wukong and Immortal Zhenyuan gradually made their way out of the Northern Wilderness under the White Dragon's guidance.

They quickly realized the old Giant had not lied; it was too difficult to find Herbal Medicines in this world.

Outside the Northern Wilderness, the land was even colder than inside the mountains, and the icy wind shrank Immortal Zhenyuan, who took refuge within Sun Wukong's fur.

The vast continent lay before their glowing eyes. The ground was covered with massive ice spears, and the sky was filled with swirling ice-blue blizzard.

"This place used to be the center of the world."

The White Dragon began to explain: "Later, when the sun split into two and flew north and south, this place turned into a barren land, where only Demon Beasts from the Chaos could survive."

"Demon Beasts?"

Sun Wukong's face showed contemplation.

"But how could there be Herbal Medicine in a place like this?"

Immortal Zhenyuan complained, as it seemed impossible to find Herbal Medicine in this icy snowscape.

"There are some just ahead."

The White Dragon said: "The Demon Beasts living here have carved out patches of green."

"Green lands?"

"Not far from here are two green lands."

The White Dragon informed them that not far ahead, there were two Oases, north and south, where several Herbal Medicines could be found.

Immortal Zhenyuan immediately took out the bamboo slip and flicked through it.

"You go south, I and White Dragon will head north."

Immortal Zhenyuan divided the Herbal Medicine search tasks.

"Are you sure you'll be alright?"

Sun Wukong was a bit worried; it was clear that Immortal Zhenyuan's Mana had not yet recovered.

"No problem."

Immortal Zhenyuan nodded.

"Alright then."

Sun Wukong and he split up.

In the south, he found an Immortal Mountain, its forests lush, the bamboo creating shade, mist wreathing the mountain peak, and winding paths twisting through.

A huge red serpent lay coiled, sleeping on the path, its breath exuding warmth that enveloped the entire Immortal Mountain.

"What a peculiar Demon Beast."

Sun Wukong thought to himself, transforming into a wisp of mist, silently drifting over the Immortal Mountain, unnoticed by the red serpent.

And when Sun Wukong reappeared, he already had two Herbal Medicines in his hand.

One was a White Peony, known to eliminate visible signs. Another was a Piercing Lotus, offering joy upon sighting, with the power of clearing heat, detoxifying, reducing inflammation, and relieving pain.

With the two Herbal Medicines in hand, Sun Wukong headed north.

There, he discovered a valley surrounded by ice and snow, where Immortal Zhenyuan and the White Dragon were tied up in trees, bound with spider silk.

"How did you end up like this?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Little brother, help me down first."

Immortal Zhenyuan asked Sun Wukong for help.

After rescuing the two, Immortal Zhenyuan told Sun Wukong about a huge Spider Demon.

"I wanted to take it as my disciple, unaware it had a mate, and they ambushed us, tying us up here, saying they would eat us tomorrow."

Immortal Zhenyuan finished speaking and looked up at what was behind Sun Wukong.

There, two Spider Demons, larger than elephants, suddenly emerged from the snowfield and spat webs at Sun Wukong.

But Sun Wukong didn't even turn his head; suddenly, his body radiated a blinding light!

Before the Spider Demons could react, the light melted their webs and turned into two beams, binding them.

"Immortal, did you find any Herbal Medicine?"

Sun Wukong completely ignored the two Spider Demons and asked Immortal Zhenyuan.

"No."

Immortal Zhenyuan shook his head: "The Herbal Medicines here have been eaten by the two spiders."

Sun Wukong looked at the White Dragon: "Where else can we find the same Herbal Medicine?"

"If not here, then we have to go to where the sun is."

The White Dragon answered.

Immortal Zhenyuan's eyes brightened: "Then let's simply go chase the sun!"

He thought chasing the sun would be much more fun than searching for medicine.
