Sun Wukong opened his eyes from meditating.
"Change the Immortal Dao, one only needs to change the Wanling Diagram."
Rather than the risks associated with creating a new diagram, he chose a simpler method, adding a new rule to the existing Wanling Diagram: elite Wanling Creations would transform into Immortal Energy.
"Wanling Book."
Sun Wukong reached out his hand, and a glowing book appeared in his palm.
This book, which he created to absorb the knowledge of the Wanling Diagram, was a top-tier Wanling Creation.
The Wanling Book shimmered with golden light.
Its radiance became holier than before, emanating an inviolable aura.
"Indeed, it has changed."
Sun Wukong caressed the book; after the Spiritual Energy composing it transformed, it became extremely selective about its host.
Ordinary people couldn't control Immortal Energy, but through the cultivation of the Wanling Immortal Path, they could gradually adapt to and gain control of this Immortal Energy, eventually becoming true Immortals.
Stowing the book away, Sun Wukong stood up.
"Great King."
The Long Armed Ape Monkey heard the noise and walked in to organize his washing up.
"No need, I have to go back."
Sun Wukong extended his hand in refusal and walked out of the Shuilian Cave, feeling a sudden sense of unease.
"This sky..."
He looked up into the sky: "Why does it seem a bit dark?"
"Dark? Not at all."
The Long Armed Ape Monkey looked puzzled: "It's the same as always."
Sun Wukong watched for a while, then slightly frowned: "Perhaps I saw it wrong."
The sky was as usual; perhaps sitting in meditation for too long led him to misjudge.
"I'll be going then."
As Sun Wukong was about to leave, suddenly a demon charged out from behind the old monkey, thrusting a sword at Sun Wukong.
The sword, like lightning piercing through space, collided with Sun Wukong's fingertip before the other demons could even react, and from tip to hilt, shattered completely.
"How, how is this possible!"
The Assassin stepped back unbelievably, subdued by the angry demons.
"You..."
The Long Armed Ape Monkey watched the Assassin in shock: "What are you doing?"
Who would be so foolish as to attempt to assassinate the Great King these days?
"Great King, are you all right?"
The old monkey turned to ask.
Sun Wukong withdrew his finger and shook his head. His body was full of treasures. Even Immortal Zhen Yuan couldn't harm him, let alone a mere Qilin,
With one glance, he knew the demon's identity.
He looked at the Qilin: "Who sent you..."
He paused halfway, then smiled: "Never mind, you surely came on your own accord."
He couldn't believe anyone would be foolish enough to send someone to assassinate him.
The Qilin gritted its teeth and remained silent.
Sun Wukong asked the Long Armed Ape Monkey: "Who is he?"
"He's called Bai Lin, a demon nurtured by Huaguo Mountain."
The Long Armed Ape Monkey felt somewhat guilty.
This Qilin Demon was born on Huaguo Mountain, and once, along with its parents, went off to play in the Southern Continent. Its parents died outside, while it alone escaped back.
There was nothing wrong with its birth. The Long Armed Ape Monkey couldn't understand why it would want to assassinate Sun Wukong.
Sun Wukong watched Bai Lin: "Do you have anything to say?"
Bai Lin glared at Sun Wukong: "Great King, despite being of the Demon Clan, you collude with the Human Clan, even seeking to eradicate our true Demon Clan lineage, I had to stop the Great King."
"How dare you!"
The Long Armed Ape Monkey bellowed in anger: "Nonsense."
"Let him speak."
Sun Wukong stopped the Long Armed Ape Monkey and asked: "Are you from the Demon Kingdom?"
Only a citizen of the Demon Kingdom would call themselves true Demon Clan.
Bai Lin snorted coldly, an admission of sorts.
Sun Wukong thought for a moment, then asked, "Do you think I will destroy the Demon Kingdom?"
"Isn't that obvious?"
Bai Lin said, "Great King, if you don't do it now, you will inevitably destroy the Demon Kingdom in the end."
He was somewhat angry, "Only the Demon Kingdom is the true realm of demons, what Great King has created—merely a place of compromise."
Sun Wukong looked into the rage in his eyes and made a simple deduction.
"Your parents were killed by the Human Clan of the Southern Continent?"
"Yes."
Bai Lin gritted his teeth, replying, "It was an order from the current Human King!"
Sun Wukong let out a sigh.
This was a tragedy that happened during his slumber.
Liu Che had issued the Evil Banishing Order in the Southern Continent back in the day. Sun Wukong, now reconciled with Liu Che, indeed sparked much discontent among many demons.
Especially in the Demon Kingdom, where there were many demons with deep-seated grudges against the Human Clan and immortals.
These demons could not all be called wicked. They simply nursed great hatreds they couldn't let go of, hence assembled under the Six-Eared Macaque.
That was also the reason why Sun Wukong hesitated to act against the Demon Kingdom.
Sun Wukong pondered for a moment, then said, "Release him."
"Great King."
The old monkey looked at him incredulously.
"I said release him."
Sun Wukong waved his hand, this Qilin Demon in front of him was as insignificant as an ant, posing no threat.
The demons let go of Bai Lin.
Bai Lin stood up, staring at Sun Wukong with a face full of shock.
"The reason I let you go is that I want you to do something."
Sun Wukong said, "Return to the Demon Kingdom and relay a message to the Six-Eared Macaque."
"Tell him," Sun Wukong said, "if he is willing to release the humans in the Demon Kingdom and ensures that no one will be captured outside from now on, I promise to never destroy the Demon Kingdom and yield that land to you."
This was the best choice he had thought of over many years.
He and the Six-Eared Macaque would both step back; the Six-Eared Macaque would release the humans, and Sun Wukong would no longer view the Demon Kingdom as an enemy, providing those demons with a place to seek refuge.
This was also the only solution besides war.
"We can't possibly refrain from eating humans."
Bai Lin said.
"Why is that impossible?"
Sun Wukong shook his head, "The Demon Kingdom, like Huaguo Mountain, is abundant with food and drink, so why must it be human flesh? If you loathe the Human Clan, then it's best to never cross paths again."
He said, "I promise to restrain the Human Clan from setting foot on the territory of the Demon Kingdom."
Bai Lin fell silent.
"Go. This is not a decision for you to make."
Sun Wukong said, "Tell the Six-Eared Macaque to decide."
Bai Lin glanced at Sun Wukong, then bowed and turned to leave Huaguo Mountain.
Regardless, Sun Wukong's magnanimity had still made an impact on him.
"Great King."
After Bai Lin left, the Long Armed Ape Monkey looked at Sun Wukong, "Shouldn't we inform the Jade Emperor about this matter?"
"No need."
Sun Wukong said.
He emitted goodwill, and such a clever creature as the Six-Eared Macaque would surely seize the opportunity.
As for the Jade Emperor, he wouldn't oppose at all.
Bai Lin left Huaguo Mountain and hurried towards the Demon Kingdom.
Mid-flight, a Buddha Light suddenly descended from the sky, blocking his way.
Bai Lin was startled and promptly halted.
"Monk, what are you doing?"
"Amitabha."
A monk stood before Bai Lin, palms pressed together, "Poor monk is here under Buddha's decree, wishing to visit the Six-Eared Macaque. Please, sir, would you lead the way."
Bai Lin felt a surge of surprise.
