The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 393: Strength and Wisdom

The sky has an invisible pair of eyes.

Sun Wukong's gaze pierced through the sweeping whiteness of the Immortal Mirror, looking towards the boundary.

"Do not kill, do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not speak falsely, do not drink alcohol; these are the five precepts of Buddhism."

He said, "After Jin Chanzi broke the precepts, he essentially became another person."

Sun Wukong also didn't expect such a reaction from Jin Chanzi after he was drunk.

"Lingshan doesn't abstain from vegetarian wine?"

Ao Luan slightly frowned and said, "I've heard from my father that they can drink vegetarian wine."

Sun Wukong shook his head. "The vegetarian wine itself is not the problem, but little do they know that wine can disturb the mind. Many of the evils in the human world use alcohol as a medium."

Sun Wukong said, "Drinking some vegetarian wine, while keeping one's mind clear, should not be considered a violation of the precepts."

The Buddhist practices here are somewhat different from those recorded four billion ninety thousand years later.

But in Journey to the West, Tang Seng indeed drank vegetarian wine as well.

But now Jin Chanzi, drunk, obviously has a different state of mind from usual, clearly breaking the precepts.

"I actually think the elder breaking the precepts makes him more human."

Ao Luan looked at the novice monks tied up in the Immortal Mirror and said, "Before, he wouldn't dare make such a move and offend Lingshan."

"Maybe... he's been suppressed for too long."

Sun Wukong answered, "Now, without so many restraints, he can perform better."

Ao Luan couldn't help but look at Sun Wukong, curious about what he would be like drunk.

She wanted to ask, but didn't.

"Brother, are you really not going to intervene and help them?"

Ao Luan changed the topic.

"I can't intervene."

Sun Wukong answered.

A breath emanated from the west, monitoring him.

He was also suppressing the Buddha.

If either of them made a move, this incident would escalate.

If possible, Sun Wukong still hoped to resolve this matter in a simple way.

They even could end the strife of the Three Realms in a different manner.

Sun Wukong continued staring at the Immortal Mirror.

At the crossroads, seven Spider Demons approached Elder Jin Chan.

"Brother Kite."

They called out a few times, but received no response.

"Can't he hear us?"

Ding Huan curiously thought about going over to check.

The Spider Demons stopped him, "That seems to be an Avatar left by Brother Kite. Getting too close might end up getting tied up with him."

They had little faith in Jin Chanzi's spells.

Ding Huan had no choice but to stop his steps and look around.

"We need to find another way to pass."

Meanwhile, Jin Chanzi, proceeding alone, had reached the end of the road.

Ahead of him was a great river with an old, dilapidated bridge that appeared to have been unused for a long time.

Looking around, Jin Chanzi saw no ferry boat.

He pulled out a brocade bag from his body, "Could you have guessed wrong?"

The brocade bag vibrated intensely, then suddenly flew out of his hand towards the river surface.

Jin Chanzi looked towards the bag and discovered a box moving downstream, bobbing up and down on the river surface.

"Collect."

Jin Chanzi reached out his hand, and the box along with the brocade bag flew into his palm.

He opened the box, inside which was a small round ball.

The exterior of the round ball was pitch black, unremarkable, but under Jin Chanzi's Dharma Eye, it appeared crystal clear like a water droplet, with Buddha's energy condensed into a liquid inside, harboring a terrifying power.

"Amitabha Buddha."

Jin Chanzi closed the box, "I've found it."

He confirmed that this was the World Venerable Relics that Sun Wukong wanted him to find.

The reason Sun Wukong sent him was because no one knew the relics better than the Buddhist. Jin Chanzi would not be misled.

"So simple."

Yet Jin Chanzi also felt it was incredible how simply the relics were obtained.

A gust of wind blew past him.

On another path, the Eastern Buddha halted his steps.

"Why did Master stop?"

The little monk almost bumped into his back.

"That monk has found the relics."

The Eastern Buddha said.

The little monk was shocked: "How could this be!"

The Eastern Buddha was also surprised, how could Buddha's deducing abilities be inferior to Sun Wukong?

But the relic in Golden Cicada's hand was definitely real, there's no mistaking his senses.

"Let's go back!"

The Eastern Buddha turned around to snatch the relics.

Suddenly a light soared from his Human Species Bag.

"Calm yourself."

The voice of Buddha came from the light: "The reincarnation body is right ahead, leave the relic be."

"Buddha."

The Eastern Buddha watched as a lantern flew out from the Human Species Bag, his face slightly startled: "Aren't we seeking the relics?"

"Not exactly... Sun Wukong's divine skills are vast, capable of deducing all causality in the Three Realms, not inferior to mine."

The voice of Buddha carried a hint of amusement: "However, this World Venerable is my Buddhist World Venerable, in terms of understanding, who could surpass me?"

Even if divine skills are aligned, different knowledge leads to different outcomes.

"Go quickly, the reincarnation body is just ahead."

Buddha urged the Eastern Buddha, and then the lantern gradually ascended, transforming into a massive halo that enveloped the earth, impenetrable.

"Give up, Sun Wukong."

Along with the voice of Buddha, another ray of light flew from the distance, clashing fiercely with the lantern.

The sky became wholly bright.

The Eastern Buddha didn't dare to delay.

He hastened forward and soon found a little monk, completely drenched, lying by the riverside.

Though unaware of what had happened, seeing his belly swollen high indicated he had fallen into water.

"The reincarnation body?"

The Eastern Buddha calculated with his fingers, then realized.

"So it is."

He threw out his Human Species Bag and packed the little monk inside.

"Let's go!"

The Eastern Buddha, with his disciple, sprang into the air and flew westward.

Amid the chaotic battle, Gouchen God and others who saw this scene tried to intercept, but were blocked by a concerted effort from the Bodhisattvas.

The Eastern Buddha accelerated, but two streaks of light pursued from behind, the collision of intertwining lights almost flung him away.

Breaking through the strong current, the Eastern Buddha looked back.

He could faintly see that one of the lights was the lantern, and battling against the lantern was a Brocade Bag.

"Buddhist Law is boundless."

The Eastern Buddha muttered quietly and swiftly returned to Lingshan.

He knew this trial was won by Buddha, and Sun Wukong was a step behind.

At Huaguo Mountain, Sun Wukong withdrew his spell-casting hands.

"One cannot have it all."

He said.

He found power, while Buddha found wisdom.

"These seven relics along with that little monk must be Buddha's trump cards."

Sun Wukong said.

"Brother, is there still a way to stop them?"

Ao Luan asked.

"No."

Sun Wukong said: "But this might not be a bad thing."

Ao Luan paused, strangely looking at Sun Wukong. He had been searching for that eighth relic for so long, now letting it go so easily, isn't that too odd?

"Could it be that Brother already knew what Buddha wanted?"

Ao Luan couldn't help but think.

Though curious, she still did not ask.

Since Sun Wukong had made his decision, there must be a reason, she just needed to trust him.
