The immense palace rose abruptly from the ground, startling the celestial beings on either side of Lingshan, who had no choice but to step aside.
Sun Wukong took a step forward, and the layers of gates to the palace unfolded, revealing a splendor inside that was in no way inferior to the Great Heroic Treasure Hall.
He walked in, followed closely by Emperor Qinghua.
Seeing this, Immortal Zhenyuan also halted his steps, "Let's go over too."
The people of Huaguo Mountain bid farewell to Guanyin and entered the Virtue Palace.
Sun Wukong sat on the main seat, with Emperor Qinghua standing behind him.
The Gouchen God hesitated for a moment and then sat down with the others on either side.
The doors of the Virtue Palace were wide open, facing directly against the Great Heroic Treasure Hall.
Sun Wukong said nothing, sitting with his eyes closed in meditation.
He stayed like that for an entire day, and Daji couldn't hold back her drowsiness, nodding off repeatedly.
Unknown how much time had passed, the noise woke Daji from her sleep.
"Has the assembly started?"
She rubbed her eyes and asked.
"It has started."
Immortal Zhenyuan looked outside and replied.
Daji looked out, suddenly taken aback.
The Great Heroic Treasure Hall was gone, replaced by five-colored auspicious mists.
The three thousand Buddhas, five hundred Arhats, Eight Great Vajra, and Boundless Bodhisattvas were each holding banner treasure covers and exotic treasure immortal flowers, arranged in the sky.
The Buddha sat majestically in the center, his form towering, with countless beams of rainbow light encircling him, while the venerables Anan and Jia Ye attended on either side, embodying a solemn presence.
A wave of solemnity came blowing forward.
"So big, so big."
Daji looked up at the Buddha.
The Buddha sat there like a giant, and compared to him, the countless celestial beings seemed like ants.
"Is he that big?"
Immortal Zhenyuan laughed, "Look behind you."
Daji turned around curiously, almost exclaiming.
Behind her, the Virtue Palace had also disappeared.
Sun Wukong sat tall in the center, also towering, with Eyes of Golden Flame, like a world-class sculpture.
Daji was stunned for a moment, and then involuntarily said,
"The Great King is truly beautiful."
The two heavenly venerates sat like two giants, one on each side.
The only difference was that close to the Buddha stood two Buddhas, while beside Sun Wukong stood only Emperor Qinghua.
"This doesn't seem right."
Daji thought, and immediately flew to stand on the other side of Sun Wukong, putting on an aloof demeanor.
The celestial beings in the sky couldn't help but smile.
"This little fox is quite adorable."
They thought to themselves.
Emperor Qinghua, however, slightly frowned.
"This isn't a place you can stand."
He waved his right hand, sending Daji flying down.
Daji was a bit annoyed and just as she was about to say something, Immortal Zhenyuan stopped her.
"That's the protector's position."
Immortal Zhenyuan said, "You can't protect the virtuous brother."
Not just Daji, even he wouldn't dare confidently stand there.
Daji could only sit back down, feeling somewhat indignant.
She gazed at the surrounding celestial beings, so numerous they covered the sky, draped in layers upon layers, sitting on prayer seats and auspicious clouds, uncountable in number.
"All the celestials have gathered."
After a while, the Buddha began, "At this assembly, I have a treasure basin, in which are a hundred types of rare flowers and a thousand kinds of exotic fruits. I share them with all of you."
"Thank you, Buddha."
The celestial beings expressed their gratitude to the Buddha.
Daji watched this scene curiously.
Then, the Tathāgata took out a treasure basin, and let the two Buddhas by his side distribute the flowers and fruits inside to all the celestial beings.
Daji also found a fruit platter in front of her.
"What kind of fruit is this?"
Daji, who had seen all kinds of fruits, was awestruck by the fruits in the platter.
"Never mind that, just eat. They're all Immortal Fruits."
Immortal Zhenyuan picked up a fruit and started eating, "These Immortal Fruits are rarely seen, not once in a thousand years."
Before Daji could move, Qing Yuanzi beside her couldn't resist the temptation and grabbed the flowers and fruits.
He brought the flowers and fruits to his mouth, his eyes widened instantly, and then he buried his head, devouring them ravenously.
Sun Wukong also got a fruit platter before him.
"Serve tea."
The Buddha instructed to serve tea to the celestial beings.
He even personally brewed a cup for Sun Wukong.
Everyone watched this scene in amazement.
Sun Wukong and the Buddha were quite distant from each other, yet their interactions seemed void of any gap.
The Buddha observed Sun Wukong finish drinking the tea, then asked, "How is my tea?"
"Bitter."
Sun Wukong set the teacup down.
"All beings suffer."
The Tathāgata smiled slightly, then began to speak, delivering the Great Method.
In an instant, visions of auspicious dragons appeared in the sky, and a rain of flowers fell, landing on people yet without a cold touch.
Daji caught some petals in her hand, watching them transform into Sanskrit characters.
"What is this?"
Daji asked.
"It's the law assembly."
Immortal Zhenyuan replied.
Daji looked at him, "Is the law assembly just about listening to teachings?"
"Of course."
Immortal Zhenyuan nodded, "With the Buddha expounding the scriptures, if you listen attentively, you can integrate the teachings into yourself, which will aid your future cultivation."
"Cultivation?"
*Daji could never have imagined that the assembly would be such a tedious event, somewhat regretting coming there.*
But Qing Yuanzi was engrossed in listening.
The flower rain that fell upon him resonated like celestial music in his mind, and Qing Yuanzi felt a sense of transcendence in himself.
A wisp of Immortal Energy emanated from him.
The other immortals saw this.
"He's quite fortunate."
They thought, for it's rare for a mortal to appear at an assembly led by the Buddha, considered the foremost figure in the Three Realms.
Every word and deed of the Buddha contained great truths, and even those not of the Buddhist sect could sense many things.
Listening to the Buddha's teachings for a few days surpassed hundreds of years of Qing Yuanzi's cultivation.
The Immortal Energy from him grew stronger and then gradually settled down.
When the energy completely settled, Qing Yuanzi opened his eyes, as if emitting golden light.
"Qing Yuanzi."
Daji was startled, "Are you about to ascend?"
Qing Yuanzi gave her a glance, then wrote on a tablet, "Form is emptiness, and emptiness, form..."
Before finishing, a ray of light suddenly shot from Sun Wukong's hand, hitting Qing Yuanzi and knocking him unconscious.
Daji stared blankly at the scene.
"He was too influenced by the Buddha and nearly turned into an Arhat."
Immortal Zhenyuan commented.
Daji snapped out of it and quickly covered her ears.
*She certainly didn't want to be brainwashed into becoming a monk by the Buddha.*
Immortal Zhenyuan found that Daji's antics sometimes reminded him of his seven apprentices.
But he knew well that immortals wouldn't be so deeply affected by the Buddha, as Qing Yuanzi was just a mortal and thus very deeply influenced.
Yet Immortal Zhenyuan found it amusing, so he didn't reveal the truth to Daji.
The Buddha continued his sermons, speaking for several days, showing no signs of stopping.
"Truly talkative."
Daji thought to herself.
"I should have stayed at Huaguo Mountain."
*She missed Huaguo Mountain while idly watching over Qing Yuanzi.*
To prevent Qing Yuanzi from becoming an Arhat, whenever he opened his eyes, Daji would immediately knock him unconscious again.
After several days of this, Qing Yuanzi's head had swollen like a bun.
