The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 427: Six Paths of Reincarnation

Qing Yuanzi was sweating profusely.

He was in the Heavenly Mechanism Pavilion, together with Sun Wukong and the World Venerable.

"Utter nonsense."

The World Venerable looked at Qing Yuanzi with cold eyes, obviously not agreeing with what Qing Yuanzi had written.

"Does this mean that the catastrophe in the Asura Realm is not the one due two hundred years from now?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"Of course not."

The World Venerable quickly responded, "Although the Asura Realm is constantly in war, the citizens of the Asura Clan are inclined towards the Three Realms, and the Heavenly Emperor need not worry."

"Furthermore, the Heavenly Emperor..."

He looked towards Sun Wukong: "Haven't I already told you what that catastrophe entails?"

Sun Wukong nodded.

He had asked the World Venerable about the great calamity after the war.

However, after hearing it, Sun Wukong could not be certain that the catastrophe the World Venerable referred to was the same as the impending disaster two hundred years later.

After all, the World Venerable had been in the Three Realms for a long time now, and his understanding of the Asura Realm might just be a small slice of its history, not necessarily accurate.

"Qing Yuanzi, did your master tell you all this?"

Sun Wukong asked Qing Yuanzi again.

Qing Yuanzi nodded.

"Who is your master?"

Sun Wukong asked further.

Qing Yuanzi shook his head; his master had passed away a long time ago, a Taoist of no remarkable Mana, just an ordinary one.

The only special thing was that his master knew a great deal.

Sun Wukong realized that the root of everything lie with his master.

"What else did your master say?"

Sun Wukong continued to ask.

Qing Yuanzi thought for a moment, then shook his head again.

Regarding the Asura Clan, his master did not say much; indeed, there was no more information.

"I will find your master."

Sun Wukong stood up and said, "Come with me to the Underworld."

The World Venerable nodded: "I will go as well."

He was also curious about that Taoist.

Sun Wukong took the two of them, leaving the Heavenly Mechanism Pavilion, and they ran into Erqing and Lingji Bodhisattva, whom he also brought along to the Underworld.

The group stepped through the Ghost Gate, where the Golden Tao unfolded and spirits bowed in submission.

"Your Majesty!"

The young boys and girls along with the Ten Kings Yan emerged from the Palace of Darkness to greet them with bowed heads.

Sun Wukong let them rise: "I'm looking for someone. Can you help me see where he has reincarnated?"

The young boys and girls immediately ordered the Judges to fetch the Book of Life and Death and started searching for the name of Qing Yuanzi's master.

The Judges, sweating profusely, looked for a long time but still could not find it.

Qing Yuanzi's master was not in the records of the Underworld, with no existence of any account, and what he had reincarnated into was unknown.

"How could such a strange thing happen?"

Shangqing was somewhat displeased and asked Qing Yuanzi, "Are you sure your master has passed away?"

"Sure."

Qing Yuanzi was hastily writing: "He died of rage after losing in a cockfight with the villagers, and I, together with my junior brothers, buried him."

"Cockfight?"

Lingji Bodhisattva widened her eyes: "What cockfight?"

Qing Yuanzi immediately sketched out a scene of two chickens fighting each other.

The two chickens fought fiercely on paper, with a Daoist and a villager in the background.

The Daoist in the sketch lost the fight, covered his chest, cursed a few times, and then died from anger.

After everyone saw it, they were all somewhat incredulous.

Lingji Bodhisattva spoke: "Qing Yuanzi, wasn't your master a bit too weak?"

Dying of anger from a lost cockfight, this sounded too far-fetched no matter how one looked at it.

"My master was hot-tempered."

Qing Yuanzi wrote: "He often lost his temper over trifles."

The World Venerable frowned immediately, while Sun Wukong thought for a moment: "Let us proceed to the Six Paths of Reincarnation."

Even if the Book of Life and Death can't be found, there must be traces within the Six Paths of Reincarnation.

A group of them came to the Six Paths of Reincarnation again.

"Sun Wukong."

Suddenly, a voice sounded from behind: "You've come once again, did you bring me something tasty?"

Sun Wukong turned his head to look, and saw Houtu rubbing her eyes as she flew over, seemingly just awakened.

With a casual wave of his hand, he sent some food flying towards her.

"Thank you."

Houtu happily took the food and sat down to eat: "What are you playing at, coming here?"

"Looking for someone."

Sun Wukong replied, while gazing at the Six Paths of Reincarnation before him.

The Six Paths of Reincarnation were an immensely gigantic wheel, revolving tirelessly. Souls, like ants, tread upon it, entering into their respective cycles of reincarnation.

"This is the Six Paths of Reincarnation."

The leading King Yan, fearing Sun Wukong might get angry, began to narrate in great detail: "Those who did good in their lives ascend to the Immortal Dao here; the loyal transcend to noble paths, and the filial enter into paths of fortune..."

Everyone had heard these things and did not listen intently.

Erqing and the World Venerable were both calculating and divining at the same time, hoping to find that Taoist.

However, the number of souls reincarnated through the Six Paths of Reincarnation was beyond count, and to cross over a hundred years of time to find one particular person was nearly impossible.

The World Venerable was the first to give up; after a moment, Erqing also felt it was too complicated and gave up.

Only Sun Wukong, with a glimmer of insight in his eyes, quickly arrived at the answer.

"Qing Yuanzi."

He raised his hand and pointed toward the Six Paths of Reincarnation: "Could that be your master?"

The crowd looked over and saw the spiritual shadow of an old Daoist sitting atop the Six Paths of Reincarnation; he looked around, seemingly perplexed.

"It is Master."

Qing Yuanzi felt a surge of joy within.

"Heavenly Emperor."

Lingji Bodhisattva was quite surprised: "Is he still here?"

"That's just an image."

Sun Wukong answered.

Sure enough, after a period of looking left and right, the old Daoist's spiritual shadow seemed to make up his mind and plunged into the Six Paths of Reincarnation.

"His name isn't in the Book of Life and Death, yet he consciously chose reincarnation."

Sun Wukong said, turning his gaze to the World Venerable: "He's just like you."

The World Venerable sighed: "He is also from the Asura Clan."

With just one glance, he understood; Qing Yuanzi's master, like him, was someone who came from the Asura Realm.

Although it was not clear how he came to the Three Realms, looking at the strength of the soul, he was capable of transcending reincarnation and certainly didn't appear to be an ordinary Daoist.

"Your master is not weaker than me."

The World Venerable said to Qing Yuanzi.

Sun Wukong shook his head: "It's only a soul, after all."

He saw more; that soul had suffered grave injuries in its past life and did not have much divine skill.

Qing Yuanzi said his master was an ordinary Daoist, and this was also true.

"Heavenly Emperor, can you find where he has been reborn into?"

The World Venerable continued to say: "If we find him, everything will become clear."

Sun Wukong nodded: "I'll try."

He closed his eyes; ever since arriving here, Sun Wukong could feel a special connection between the Six Paths of Reincarnation and the Heavenly Emperor Jade Seal.

"Can the Jade Seal connect to the Six Paths of Reincarnation?"

Sun Wukong wondered, merging his thoughts with the Jade Seal.

He was now the true Heavenly Emperor and naturally integrated into the Jade Seal without any obstacles.

Suddenly, Sun Wukong felt as if he had become the Six Paths of Reincarnation itself.

That rotating wheel formed his body, and endless Laws made up his blood. It was as if, with a mere thought, it would obey his will.

Sun Wukong felt a bit of pressure at the spot of his navel and with a thought, the Underworld began to tremble.

"What's going on, what's happened!?"

The King Yans were greatly alarmed.

"It's nothing serious…"

Houtu took a bite of the pastry: "He has opened the Asura Path."

At the very center of the Six Paths of Reincarnation, a glowing vortex opened up.
