The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 45: May I Ask the Master

On the way to Shuilian Cave, Liu Heng encountered a group from the Kingdom of Aolai.

Upon first seeing the King of Aolai, Liu Heng knew this was a man who walked in song.

Solemn music surrounded him, which commanded respect from anyone who heard it.

"Stop!"

The King of Aolai suddenly halted, turned around, and said, "Miss Daji, I do not need a farewell."

Then, several demon foxes ran out of the forest and captured Mei Hu, who was playing the music from a wooden box.

"No, this is a great opportunity for humans to recognize me!"

While crying out, Mei Hu was dragged into the forest by the demons.

Liu Heng watched this scene in dumbfounded silence, wondering who this beautiful and strange miss was.

After greeting the King of Aolai, Liu Heng was led into Shuilian Cave by Zhang Liang.

"Welcome."

Sun Wukong stood up to greet Liu Heng.

He was not fond of the human royal family, but this man had come unintentionally, with a different status; it was fate to meet.

"What do you think of Huaguo Mountain, Prince?"

After the pleasantries, Sun Wukong invited Liu Heng to sit down.

"It's like a mortal Immortal Realm."

Liu Heng replied.

Sun Wukong smiled and said, "Then why not stay here for an extra day? The matter of the Hundred Herbs Scripture is not urgent, and since Empress Lv has sent you, I would also like to prepare a modest gift for her."

"A modest gift?"

Liu Heng thought for a moment and then nodded.

Empress Lv had always greatly admired the Monkey King; if she knew the Monkey King wanted to gift her something and he didn't bring it back, she would certainly be angry.

Thus, Liu Heng agreed to spend an extra day at Huaguo Mountain.

Sun Wukong treated people kindly and was as wise as the rumors suggested; Liu Heng quickly became close to him.

Liu Heng couldn't help but ask why Huaguo Mountain was so prosperous.

"It's simple."

Sun Wukong laughed: "I provide a stable environment for demons, allowing them to freely create."

He added, "Technological advancement naturally brings prosperity."

Liu Heng pondered for a while and soon saw the light.

It was simple logic, but regrettably, most people in the world could not understand it.

Liu Heng developed a respect for Sun Wukong; it was no wonder that the Monkey King had such overflowing talent and why Huaguo Mountain had become so prosperous.

Liu Heng continued to consult Sun Wukong on other doubts.

The governance strategies Sun Wukong pointed out were often very precise, clearing up Liu Heng's questions one by one.

Naturally, the two also discussed the Hundred Herbs Scripture. Sun Wukong talked about how originally humans traveled thousands of miles to Huaguo Mountain to plead with him to compile the Hundred Herbs Scripture.

Filled with emotion, he also mentioned that in previous years, some humans sacrificed many lives just to bring him materials for herbal medicine.

Liu Heng kept watching Sun Wukong's expressions and could tell from his words that he was different from ordinary demons and had no malice towards humans.

This increased Liu Heng's sense of closeness.

Furthermore, Sun Wukong's recognition of human contributions also surprised Liu Heng.

Humans naturally had contributions to the Hundred Herbs Scripture, but Liu Heng did not expect Sun Wukong to speak so candidly about it.

Sun Wukong had not considered monopolizing the Hundred Herbs Scripture and even intended to give the book back to humans free of charge.

Liu Heng was grateful.

The two enjoyed their chat, and in the blink of an eye, it was afternoon; Ao Luan walked into Shuilian Cave with a report.

"Brother, the West Liang Woman Country is coming to visit you."

Sun Wukong nodded; he knew that the West Liang Woman Country was all females, tender and sickly. The Hundred Herbs Scripture meant more to them than to other countries.

But he had no inclination to meet those guests.

"You go and meet them."

Sun Wukong instructed Ao Luan: "Just say I'm not available."

Ao Luan nodded with a smile and turned to leave.

"Monkey King, why don't you meet them?"

Liu Heng was curious because the Monkey King was polite to everyone, so why refuse the West Liang Woman Country without reason?

"I like peace and quiet; if I went, I'd have to meet every small country afterward, wouldn't that be troublesome?"

Sun Wukong said with a laugh that Aolai was a neighbor of Huaguo Mountain and Han was a great country, so meeting them was fine, but meeting other small countries might trigger a rush of visits.

He was already very busy and had no time for diplomatic games with those countries.

"My original intention was to send the Hundred Herbs Scripture directly to each country, but I didn't expect you all to come and collect it."

Sun Wukong added: "If I refused, it would actually be inappropriate."

Liu Heng nodded.

Indeed, those countries might have wanted more from the Monkey King than just the Hundred Herbs Scripture.

If they found an opportunity, they would surely become bothersome with incessant demands.

"Monkey King, your candor is truly unexpected."

While sighing, Liu Heng expressed his intrigue: "However, I've heard that the West Liang Woman Country is extremely conservative and rarely ventures out; perhaps they have other purposes in coming here."

Sun Wukong counted on his fingers, then nodded slightly.

"You really hit the mark."

He flicked his finger and a ray of Immortal Light flew out of Shuilian Cave, disappearing without a trace.

"What's going on?"

Liu Heng asked.

"There is a sick girl aboard the West Liang ship."

Sun Wukong explained: "I cured her with the Immortal Light."

Liu Heng was sincerely impressed.

That girl must be of high status; the West Liang Woman Country would surely have no complaints knowing the Monkey King had personally treated her.

The two continued to explore the art of governance.

Meanwhile, the ships from the Kingdom of Aolai set sail back to their country from the harbor.

The King gazed at Huaguo Mountain for a long time, then returned to his room, only to find a young monk sitting inside.

"Who goes there!"

The guards were startled; how could there be a monk here?

"Amitabha."

Golden Cicada clasped his hands together: "Venerable hosts, this humble monk has lost his way."

He got lost while wandering around, accidentally ending up on a small island, but fortunately, a kind-hearted little jade shrimp demon led him to this ship.

"Venerable hosts, may I ask if this ship is returning to Huaguo Mountain?"

"..."

The guards looked at each other in bewilderment.

The King pushed past them and approached: "Excuse me, master, are you Elder Golden Cicada?"

He had heard from Shuilian Cave about a high monk who had gone missing.

He had hidden in the cabin, no wonder Immortal Zhen Yuan could not find him.
