The Tathāgata Must Fail

Chapter 138: It's My Turn Now

Sun Wukong, who was in the midst of battle, suddenly turned his head.

He found that the Buddha's presence had disappeared.

"What's going on?"

With a glance, Sun Wukong noticed that Daji and the others were in utter chaos.

"Venerable!"

In an instant, Sun Wukong understood—it must have been the White Robed Venerate who made his move.

His eyes flickered with fire: "If you want to deal with me, come out yourself. Why attack the Buddha?"

His cry echoed through the Heavenly Court, lingering for a long time without any answer.

"Sun Wukong, meet your doom!"

From a distance came a shout, and a Bodhisattva arrived with overwhelming flames.

"Don't interrupt me!"

Sun Wukong swung his Jingu Bang in retaliation.

"Boom!"

The Bodhisattva attempted to block with a Tin Staff, but it was shattered by the Jingu Bang, and the Bodhisattva was sent flying, his flesh blurred and torn.

At that moment, other Bodhisattvas joined in, surrounding Sun Wukong, unleashing their Divine Skills, striking at Sun Wukong.

"Sun Wukong, your opponent is us."

The Bodhisattvas shouted.

Sun Wukong's voice turned cold: "Then I'll deal with you first!"

He raised his hand, and the Jingu Bang, wrapped in fierce flames, turned into a crimson Sky-Supporting Pillar, boiling and overwhelming as it engulfed the entire battlefield.

With each wave of heat, Bodhisattvas cracked and were sent flying backward, showing an expression of shock.

"How is this possible!"

They looked towards Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong's whole body was ablaze, his aura becoming even more terrifying.

He was still growing stronger!

"Everyone, bring out your true selves."

One Bodhisattva shouted loudly: "I don't believe he can defeat all of us!"

His body was enveloped by Buddha Light, and a massive dragon-like behemoth emerged on the battlefield.

At the same time, all the Bodhisattvas displayed miraculous visions, Divine Birds, giant lions, and the like appeared, seemingly magical creatures swathed in Buddha Light.

Sun Wukong let out a cry of doubt.

These Bodhisattvas were indeed odd, different from the other devout followers of Buddha.

Those devout followers, though called Buddha's disciples, were but half-completed beings made by Jile, unable to withstand even one of his blows.

But these Bodhisattvas possessed real physical bodies, powerfully robust. Sun Wukong had long felt they were not quite human.

Now at a glance, indeed, they were not human.

"What are you creatures?"

Sun Wukong asked.

"It's not your place to question!"

The Divine Birds and Exotic Beasts screeched, pressing down on Sun Wukong with a vast sea of fire clouds.

"You're right."

Sun Wukong's eyes burned like torches.

He set aside his Jingu Bang and launched his fists forward, his punch wind ablaze, tearing through Chaos.

"He's not even using the Jingu Bang now."

Daji watched, astonished: "Great King is getting stronger and stronger!"

Bursts of fire erupted in Chaos, searing flames and dazzling light swallowing everything.

The Divine Birds and Exotic Beasts revealed their true forms, yet still fell short against Sun Wukong.

Sun Wukong treated their assaults as a baptism of his physique, sweeping legs and swinging fists, seeking the ultimate in bodily strength, groping for a higher level of prowess.

His battle spirit soared, the Divine Birds and Exotic Beasts bathed in fresh blood, struggling fiercely before falling, filled with unwillingness.

"Not enough, still not enough!"

Sun Wukong sought after even stronger battles, striking down Divine Birds and Exotic Beasts, before picking up the Jingu Bang and clashing fiercely with Emperor Yao.

"Does he have no limits?"

Emperor Yao was both shocked and troubled seeing so many Bodhisattvas slain.

After the protracted battle, even his own body was barely holding up, his essence drained, and the glow of the Heavenly Sword faded.

The Blood Soul still protected him, but it was much smaller than at the beginning.

"Am I to be defeated here?"

The thought flashed through Emperor Yao's mind.

He had roamed Chaos for a million years, and apart from that Venerable one, he had never known defeat.

"Impossible!"

Emperor Yao clenched his teeth, he too once aspired to reach beyond the heavens, looking down upon all from his throne as a sovereign of a realm, intent on changing Chaos—now, to be defeated by a mere monkey!

"How could I possibly lose to you!"

Emperor Yao spurred the Heavenly Sword, launching a frenzied attack on Sun Wukong.

"You better hold on a bit longer!"

As Sun Wukong fought, he shouted: "Each time your Protective Blood Light is struck by my attack, it diminishes."

He saw the blood light on Emperor Yao was already scarce.

Sun Wukong really wanted to see the expression on Emperor Yao's face when that blood light shattered.

"I don't know what you've been through."

A dazzling and crystalline War God Seal shone within Sun Wukong: "But it's laughable that you would rather sacrifice it and vent your fury on me."

"What do you know!"

Emperor Yao roared in anger: "If I don't stop you, won't the souls of the beings of your Three Realms also suffer a scattered and annihilated fate?"

Sun Wukong's expression suddenly turned cold: "My Three Realms, cannot possibly become like that."

"Ha, hahaha..."

Emperor Yao released an undying brilliance, emitting a somewhat sorrowful laughter: "You are just like I once was, exactly the same!"

He too was once as naïve as Sun Wukong, and had not failed to try with effort.

However, everything he had was gone, beyond recovery.

"I must stop you!"

A splintering sound came from within Emperor Yao, as the Heavenly Dao broke through the physical shackles, manifesting as dazzling lightning.

These lightning flashes burst forth immense divine might, blasting Sun Wukong back and engulfing Emperor Yao entirely.

In the blink of an eye, he stood in the void like the Sun God, with the sun, moon, and stars trembling.

"You've actually ignited your own Heavenly Dao!"

Sun Wukong's expression became grave.

"The Heavenly Dao, it's indeed to be used at this moment."

Emperor Yao said, his subjects were all dead, the Heavenly Dao had already lost its meaning.

Now, he was igniting the Heavenly Dao, turning himself into a crucible, set to perish together with Sun Wukong.

"Die!"

Emperor Yao, shouting angrily, charged at Sun Wukong.

The two collided, clashing with myriad Heavenly Dao, creating the most splendid Light Sea, which dimmed the heavens and earth, leaving the sun and moon without shine.

This was a competition of the Heavenly Dao, as well as a decisive battle of wills!

Vast waves swept across Chaos, turning countless Star Palaces upside down.

Fanjing Mountain also crumbled under this upheaval, turning into falling rubble.

But the White Robed Venerate didn't care at all.

"Almost there."

He stood under the colorful Bodhi Tree, watching the battlefield that had turned into a Sea of Light.

The fledgling monks around the outskirts of the battlefield were fleeing frantically, those who were too slow turned into ash.

This was a battlefield of supreme terror, and yet the most beautiful one.

Countless Tao lights within the battlefield shattered, the old order was destroyed, and a new Heavenly Dao was born.

A blood-red seal shone brightly at the center of the battlefield, the fighting spirit remarkable.

"It is about to transcend."

The White Robed Venerate knew that Sun Wukong's fighting spirit had reached its peak.

At the center of the battlefield, Emperor Yao's Heavenly Sword had pierced through Sun Wukong.

"Truly formidable."

Sun Wukong's breastbone was shattered, his body riddled with holes, unable to stop the rampaging lightning at his wounds.

"This is the first time someone has wounded me to this extent."

He said.

"Why won't you die?" Emperor Yao's eyes were a deep red: "Isn't my self-immolation and sacrifice of my Heavenly Dao enough to defeat Sun Wukong?"

Sun Wukong gripped the sword hilt, inch by inch pulling it out from his chest.

Flames ignited one after another in his wounds, his flesh seemed to burn as well.

"I am undying and indestructible."

Sun Wukong said.

And then, he raised the Jingu Bang.

"Now, it's my turn."
